As an admin I need to be able to search students OneDrive's to find 'lost' files or investigate a bullying etc incident. I have created a group 'OneDrive Admins' and added myself (I am also a global admin of Sharepoint/365 generally). I have added this group as 'site collection administrator' to a users site. I can open and browse the site, I can see the group listed as an 'Owner' on every file/folder in the users OneDrive, BUT searching never returns anything. mmm ideas?

it turned out to be BS. We we were ready to place the order and the supplier suddenly couldn't get that price anymore from Dell - and it was now about £800 a unit.

Hello, we are seeing errors when opening SIMS (sometimes): 'Access to the path 'My SIMS Documents' is denied' They have an article on this (see below): https://customer.support-ess.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sys_kb_id=61cd7eca1baa61500f7143b6b04bcb43 but I just can't believe that the advise I need to give staff is to close OneDrive before using SIMS. That is a terrible 'fix'. Is there a different thing we can do? Obviously leave the archaic SIMS but that's a little way off yet. -- SIMS will attempt to load the "My SIMS Documents" folder from the user's documents folder and attempt to gain an exclusive lock on the files inside. When this happens OneDrive then assumes that SIMS has made a change to the files and attempts to gain access, thus revoking SIMS access to the folder. Typically, SIMS will regain control over the files, however it has been noted that OneDrive may intermittently lock out the user and any applications that are not OneDrive then fail to undo the permission changes, resulting in the above errors. As a workaround, it is advised to close OneDrive before using SIMS which should prevent the issues from occurring. If you experience this issue, close SIMS, delete the "My SIMS Documents" folder from the affected user's documents folder, then re-open and log back into SIMS. This will regenerate the "My SIMS Documents" Folder and allow the user to login again.

I need to periodically empty the OneDrive folders of 100 x Exams AD accounts. I also need to then empty the accounts OneDrive Recycle Bin. I already have manager permissions on the exam accounts folders and I know their personal URL's. I feel I need a mix of Remove-PnPFolder and then Clear-PnPRecycleBinItem. Has anyone got a working script?

Has anyone had any luck removing the right click "Always Keep on this Device" folder option for students. I am concerned HDD will suffer when we move 100% to OneDrive. We use files on demand but this will sync whatever down. I am also finding OneDrive search to be erratic to say the least.. e.g. A folder in a users OneDrive with a file - 'africa.txt' I search for 'txt' 'africa' 'africa.txt' and it finds nothing. Sometimes in other folders search seems to work OK, although searching just by file name rather than contents as well would be nice - is that possible? Maybe I am missing some global setting to index files on the site or something..? Thanks

I am finding with some students: - They definitely have and use a OneDrive account connected to their [email protected] - They log in - Edge gets logged into their account automatically (set via GPO) - OneDrive is in the taskbar but is a grey cloud, if clicked it prompts to setup OneDrive - If I go through the setup (entering their UN and PW and a few misc questions) it does setup A similar student sat next to them OneDrive is auto signed in. Can anyone advise a plan? Thanks

Thanks Peter, worth a test for sure. So now u have stability do u set any reg keys or just the single GPO to auto sign into OneDrive? Can u say that u have 100% Reliability with the auto sign in? I’m setting files on demand and folder redirection via an environment variable but nothing else really. Seems so simple but erratic is the worse. Are u very strict on profile deletion?

I have set the OneDrive GPO - Silently sign in users to the OneDrive sync app with their Windows credentials. Silent sign in seems to be erratic, sometimes it works but sometimes we get the grey OneDrive cloud, sometimes the blue cloud but a red line through it. Profile deletion usually works, but that's not a fix for 100's of computers and 1000s of users. There's a load of stuff on Edugeek including this post about various reg keys but maybe in 2023 things have moved on. Has anyone got any advise please? Thanks

we have some computers that need driver updates from Windows Update (we use WSUS for security updates). There is a powershell command to check and then install updates Install-Module -Name PSWindowsUpdate #Check Get-WindowsUpdate -ComputerName ITROOM24 -MicrosoftUpdate #Install Get-WindowsUpdate -ComputerName ITROOM24 -MicrosoftUpdate -Install-AcceptAll It finds updates, and the updates listed status changes to 'Accepted', but after leaving for a long time, reboot etc running the same command again it finds them again, having done nothing. Anyone had luck doing updates via command line or powershell?

Thanks bored guy, so if you have a whole class of new Y7 they need to log in, change PW, wait a bit and then log off/on and then the OneDrive sync tool will auto sign in?

I am finding if I create a new 365 user and ‘force password change at next login’ then the OneDrive sync tool will not automatically sign in, as set by GPO (presumably because the new password has not synced to cloud yet). Is there any way round this? Will cause IT headaches for New year groups logging in for the first time…. Thanks

Hello, slowly moving users personal folders to OneDrive from local server drives. Students can currently right click/share a folder in their OneDrive, and share to users/groups, does anyone manage this in any way? I think at the very least I want to prevent students sharing files to some chosen staff department groups. Can anyone advise where I configure this? Thanks.

If we have all our teaching resources in SharePoint and are using Cass Teams then there seems to be no easy way (other than download/upload) for staff to attach a file from SharePoint to their Class Teams assignments? Am I missing something?

we do have issues with the projector going to blue screen when they are using PowerPoint and then select 'freeze' on the projector.

We have regular calls to classrooms with no signal to projector. Unplug/Plug HDMI cable and it usually comes to life. We have put in 7.5m or 10m in some rooms '4K HDMI 2.1' cables by CableDirect'. The HDMI cable market is a minefield of good/bad quality. Anyone had 100% success with a brand? How about optical/active? The projectors are decent quality Epson HD. Thanks

We tested FSLogix but found that it didn't work if users were logged into more than one computer. The virtual FSLogix drive locks so can not be written by the second logged in session. - Someone in the staff workroom being logged in and then forgetting to log off and going to their classroom. - Someone logged into their classroom, then taking cover in another room while logged into both - Student doesn't sign out and goes to another lesson before the auto sign-out kicks in surely this will happen all the time? thoughts?

We were going to use OneDrive sync client (tested fslogix and decided not to use that) - So new InDesign projects working and saving to OneDrive seems to be happy? - With existing InDesign projects will the migration of user files from a server shared folder to OneDrive break all the projects due to linked resource links now being wrong? Hello, for those who save their user files to OneDrive and use Adobe CC, can you please tell me how you deal with the non-cloud capable parts of Adobe, specifically InDesign. We are looking to moving to Teams for Curriculum/Subject resource file storage. Couple of logistics things we are struggling with: Surely if any teacher can cover any lesson (usually at a moments notice via the 'Cover board' first thing in the morning) then all staff must be a member of every Team to access the subject resources? If student files are saved to the 'Files' part of the Class Team then they must be put in the 'Class Materials' folder otherwise all students have full delete permissions...right? At the end of the year class Teams get archived, so student file storage is very temporary and will need to be uploaded by staff each year. Staff are Ok with this? Thanks for any ideas

Hello, I have just had a price from Dell for all in one computers - £500 - Core i5, 16GB RAM, 5 year NBD pro support plus warranty, which is considerably cheaper than our 'usual' AIO price. I have never used Dell hardware or warranty before, can anyone comment on it's quality, durability and their service? Thanks

Maybe yes, but a lot of schools are finding themselves stuck with SIMS for the foreseeable future due to contract/financial reasons, or even just a general staff reluctance to move. My comment is that for ESS to not make some effort (or even test) it's widely used product to make it work better with OneDrive (which has also been around a long time) is inexcusable. From the posts above it seems they could make some minor changes in the way reports run, location of temp etc that would help.

thanks, so it's a different user experience to OneDrive sync? We find this saves the file (locally) then the file closes and the user can log out, BUT the OneDrive sync tool may still be 'processing changes' in the background.

This is what we have been worried about - students working for a whole lesson in photoshop, not saving, then at the end of lesson save and immediately log off, the sync has no chance. What's the config (in CDM?) that prevents log off until it finishes syncing? Thanks

Ive just spoken to ESS, OneDrive support is 'being considered for development' as they are aware many schools now use it. The only advise they can give us is to subscribe to the KB0038994 article (started in 2020, so they've has 3 years to test this so far..) so we can track progress, and for schools to put in development requests to add weight and possibly push things along a bit quicker. It is only when it gets confirmed for development we will get some kind of eta.
