***Update on this I have deployed a completely different image to a completely differenent set of computers and I am still getting the restart issue. Could it be the task sequence or MDT? Sean -
[mdt] Workstation keeps restarting after deploying image in MDT
Theldron posted a topic in O/S Deployment
Hi all, I hope somebody can give me some advice on this as i am close to throwing a my toys out of the pram. I have created and captured a windows 7 image and sysprepped. When i deploy the image everything goes fine until the install has completed then the PCs keep restarting on the Windows logo. The first 3 PCs I deployed this on worked fine but every PC since i get the restart issue. I have tried sysprepping and recapturing the image again, to no avail. I pressed F8 and disabled automatic restart. I get the BOD with error code 0x0000007b. I am trying to find Windows 7 storage controller drivers but this is proving difficult as they are older RM Ascend machines. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks Sean -
Hi all, Just after a bit of advice. We are moving from RM CC3 to vanilla network, with Server 2008r2 and Windows 7 on clients. With CC3 we were using roaming profiles, but I was wondering what the best thing to do with profiles on a vanilla network. Do i go with roaming or can i use folder redirection and group policies? Cheers

I dont know if anyone can help me with this but i would be very grateful if somebody could as its driving me batty!! We are a school who have recently moved from RM CC3 to a vanilla network, the servers (DNS, DHCP) were setup by a company, but since the move I can't connect to the internet through staffproxy.swgfl.org.uk (which is an external proxy, which allows for lighter filtering for staff). We have gone from Server 2003 to Server 2008r2. We have a smartcache that goes through an alternative proxy for students which is more heavily filtered and once I added this to DNS its working fine, but the staffproxy....... proxy wont. When i run the connection troubleshooter it says about DNS not resolving the name. I contacted SWGFL and they gave me a external DNS to use, I put this into my PCs DNS settings and it works, but i cant see why i have to use an external DNS because I went from 2003 to 2008r2. This is happening on all PCs and servers. Is there a setting that I need to change on Server2008r2? Any advice would be gratefully received, as when the staff come back if this is not working, I am going to get my a** chewed. Many thanks Sean

A member of SLT wants me to create a program that when double clicked will send an alert to SLT and Head of House laptops when a student needs to be removed from class. I haven't touched programming in 13 years, so what would the best programming language to learn to achieve this? I would like to learn several languages including a web-based language for some other projects I have in mind also. How easy would it be to extract data from our MIS (SIMS) into this program? My idea is the teacher opens the program either selects the teachers name, class room, and student (this data would have been extracted from SIMS) or enters the information manually into text boxes (probably easier) the teacher clicks send. This brings up a flashing box on the SLT and HOH laptops with the information entered. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Sean

Hi all, Our Deputy Head, who is also head of SEN, wants to provide a student with a laptop to take home and use. She asked me if I had any spare ones which I haven't so she wants to buy a new one. What are the licensing issues if there are any, to installing software that is licensed to the school on laptops that are being taken home by students? Thanks Sean

Hi all, Is there anyone who is currently using Vidiscript in their schools? I have just setup Vidiscript on a windows 2003 server but I would like to speak to anyone who is currently using this, as there are certain things I am not sure about. 1. How to store videos on a NAS and run them from there? 2. I don't want the students to be able to upload videos or register with the site? Any help would be appreciated.

Manage to create batch file that works I've set it up as a login script, this feeds into a file in a shared folder and the file gets renamed at the end of each month to the month and year.

CC3 Allowing users to access "Graphics Properties"
Theldron replied to Kisageru's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Hi Kisageru, The only place I can see is in the user type properties > Control Panel > Enable The Display Control Panel change cross to a tick. You probably already know this, but you will have to clone the staff user type to make any changes. Hope this helps. Sean -
Thanks for the reply, we haven't used RMAuditor for a long time as it never worked properly and it was removed.

Hi, We are a CC3 school and we have had a couple of instances of vandalism on some of the PCs. Ive searched through the forum but can't find what I am looking for. What I want to do is each time somebody logs on is to have their name, workstation number and time of when they logged on to feed into a txt/csv file that updates with each record rather that overwrite. This would help if there are any cases of vandalism on a workstation so I can at least narrow down the search (I know this isn't conclusive as the person who used the PC might not have been the person to vandalise it, but as I said it helps narrow things down.) I know this would have to be some sort of script but this isn't my strong point, I am trying to learn but getting the time is proving difficult. Thanks all.

Hi all, I know that this has been raised several times, but I can't find anything specific for our needs. I want to put all of our educational DVDs/videos onto a media server (legalities already considered and we are covered). These won't be the latest movies etc. I want a web frontend that the teachers and students can access and play media files though. I would also like this to have a search function for keywords example World War 2 etc. I have seen one in the past but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. I have also looked at clipbucket, but can this be setup over the intranet rather than have it hosted on the web, as we don't want the videos access outside of school? Again sorry if this has been covered. Thanks Sean

Hello all, We are currently using RM Easymail, but I am trying to convince my schools SLT to move to Live@edu. I would like to hear from some schools that have implemented live@edu in their schools, if you are from the Gloucestershire area - would I be able to visit? SLT are mainly concerned about the monitoring side of the software, e.g. can we view student emails and skydrives? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sean

Hi, Has anyone installed OCS and GLPI to run on a RM CC3 network? If so could you tell me how you deployed the OCS agent? Many thanks Sean

Open source Asset Management for Windows
Theldron replied to Theldron's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Thanks Domino ill look at that. Is anyone using OCS with a RM CC3 network and I wondered if it was possible to package build the agent and deploy it within CC3? Thanks Sean -
Open source Asset Management for Windows
Theldron posted a topic in Network and Classroom Management
Hi all, Please don't shout at me for this as I know there are alot of threads regarding Asset Management, but I can't find anything specific for my needs. I am after an open source asset management solution that will work on windows, as I have no linux knowledge at all and prefereably web based. I have got an old Windows 2003 server and I have put on a help desk (Web Help Desk), room booking system (Devizes) and I just now need an asset management software as this has fallen by the way side recently. Printer consumables tracking would be a bonus. I have tried Spiceworks and I just feel thats a little overkill for what I need. We aren't a big school around 200 pc's and laptops. OCS/GLPI - As I said I have no linux knowledge at all, plus I would like to keep everything together on the old server. Again sorry for repeating a thread. I know I am probably asking too much. I know a lot of people don't like RM, but it has been a god send to me. I am the only technician at our school and the Network Manager is a full-time teacher. So to be able to just go to RM if there is problem is great. Don't get me wrong if I had half the chance I would like to go Vanilla but being on my own its not feasible, not because I don't like RM but the fact that I'd get more freedom in how I wanted to run our network. I have ditched most of the RM Software mind: RMVP - Sophos RM Printer Credits - Pcounter RM Audit - Spiceworks I am currently looking into dropping RM Easymail and going with Live@edu. Why pay for something when you can get it for free. PS - Also when there is a problem, being able to tell teachers that I have had to pass it to RM saves so much hassle.

Hi dhicks, When you say Xen do you mean Citrix Xen Server or Xen from Xen.org? As I have tried to install Citrix Xen Server (Free edition) and it says "Hardware virtualization support is not enabled/or does not exist". Thanks Sean

Yeah I did try VMware and it kept playing up. Thing is I have 2 old servers the Dell and an old RM one. I don't want them just sitting there as it is a waste of resources, I was thinking of a media server for one. I know all of the legal issues that come with this we do have the appropriate licensing etc. All ideas greatly appreciated, any more ideas would be great. As I'm stuck.

Hi 3s, The server is Xeon 3Ghz, 2 Gig Ram, 3 x 73GB h/d. We are a CC3 school so all the software deployment is done through that, we have a spare DC. What benefits would a Sharepoint server give us? Sorry I don't know much about Sharepoint. Thanks again

Hi all, I have a spare Dell PowerEdge 2850, I want to have a play with virtualisation set-up a couple of virtual machines and if they work well connect them to the network. What would be the best/free way of doing this? We are an RM CC3 school and one of the things I want to use one of the virtual machines for is as a SmoothWall server etc. Can anyone give me any help or any tips on what to use the server for? Many thanks
