Hi all, This may sound like an obvious question but, I have setup HAP on a server and it is working well. But how do I go about giving access to this externally? Do I have to setup a VPN server to do this? Cheers

I saw a previous post regarding the issue and to try deleting the .svg entry from HAP/web.config file to get this working. I have done this but it is still not working. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I am probably doing something really stupid, but I am trying to setup HAP, but when I go to the setup page I am not seeing the green ticks and red crosses I am just getting a white box with a little red cross in the corner, like when a program can't find a picture. I have not changed anything and followed the installation tutorial on the website. Any help on this would be great. Cheers

Too be honest my first idea was a VPN with shares. Basically they want this up and running by January, I dont mind putting a bit of work into it but I just need the quickest and most cost effective way to do it. Thanks again

Hi all, We have primary school students come into our school and learn. I have been asked to come up with a way that a member of staff from the primary schools can go on to our website click a link, login using a id and password and then view their students work, attendance data and behaviour data that will be inputted to excel spreadsheets. How would I go about doing this? Would I need to setup a VPN? I know using a Learning Platform would be the best option for this, but this is not an option for the moment. Cheers

If i right click the the server name in DNS and go to interfaces I have 2 IP addresses selected the x.x.44.1 and 192.x.x.x. I have deselected the 192.x interface and I am going to try a machine. I will let you know how i get on. Thanks again for everybodies help. Cheers

Looking through DNS I have noticed that the server has 2 ip addresses registered to it in the Name Servers tab. 192.x.x and x.x.44.1.

Hi Pantscat, If i ping the server name from a .45.x machine it tries to ping a 192.x number and times out, I am looking through DNS now to try to find where that number came from.

No we have 1 DHCP scope that covers both ranges.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. On a 44 range machine it went straight to the server when I tracert to the server DNS name and IP address. On the 45 range machine I tracert to the server using the server ip address it went straight to it, but when I tracert to the server using the dns name it goes to the gateway and to other places before it starts to timeout I stopped the tracert after about 16 hops.

Hi all, We moved from CC3 to Vanilla over the summer and an external company (i wont mention names) setup AD, DHCP and DNS and I did the rest. We run Ip addresses over x.x.44.x and x.x.45.x. Whilst using Spiceworks I noticed x.x.45.x PCs weren't scanning, so after checking everything else I thought I would check DNS. DNS forward lookup zones all fine, checked the reverse lookup zones and I noticed that only the x.x.44 range folder was in there, so I created the x.x.45 range folder and bipadebopadeeboop the ip addresses suddenly appeared and rescanning Spiceworks all PCs are scanned fine. But I am still noticing that the PCs with x.x.45.x ip addresses are still logging on very slowly compared to the PCs on the other IP range. Is there something else I need to do to DNS for this range? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Thanks for the replies. I was looking at gallery server pro as a media gallery it is web-based so could be accessed as an external source or within chosen intranet site. Unixman im unsure now what to go with. I had a quick play with Joomla a while ago and couldnt get on with it. Maybe i need to sit down longer with it. Moodle i have never played with before, has anyone else used this for their intranet? Any more opinions on what to use for our intranet creation would be helpful? Thanks

Hi all, I need a bit of advice. I am looking to build a intranet site for the school, but i dont know what to use to create the site. I was thinking Sharepoint. I also want to include in this a room booking system (MRBS) and a media gallery (a youtube style one would be good. Any advice on this, preferably free?). I also want to have seperate views for staff and students. I have looked at Joomla, Sharepoint and wordpress. I am leaning towards Sharepoint. Cheers Sean

Thanks for replying. I was looking for a popup over the top over whatever the user is doing, or a scrolling bar anything really. This would be for a Server 2008r2 network and Windows 7 PCs and laptops.

Im looking for some software for our school that will enable us to send alerts to PCs and laptops on our network, preferably open source. Integrating with AD would be good and having premade alerts also. I know im asking alot. This would mainly be used for alerting senior staff of incidents etc. Thanks Sean

Hi all, I am having an issue where I have deployed printers to all our classrooms using print management on server 2008. I applied it to a computer GPO rather than a user. I am now getting an issue, when a user uses a printer in one classroom and then goes to another classroom it retains the previous printer, but it will allow them to choose that classroom printer. Anyone know how to get this sorted as this is going to cause issues when the classes start? Cheers Sean

Ok im probably being really dumb here, please tell me if i am i can accept it. Just brought a HP 2620-24 switch for school and i need to access the switch console. Plugged in the RJ-45 to serial cable downloaded and ran putty but all i get is a blank screen. I changed Putty settings to Serial but its still not working. Am i missing something obvious? Further update - a set of computers that I was having trouble with that I had already managed to load windows 7 on 3 of them, so I exported the drivers using Driver Magician and imported those into MDT. I edited the task sequence to use these drivers and it worked. So it is a driver issue, worse come to the worse I will have to find each model of RM machine we have and manually install Windows 7 on to get the drivers. Sean
