Hi, I recently used a trial of Kiwi Syslog Service manager and was quite impressed, but it is quite an expensive product to buy. Does anyone have any recommendations on good Syslog programs out there. I don't believe server 2012 has anything which built in which can help.

Thanks for the clarification. No problem re USOs as I already have those dished out, though head does not have one. Would this allow tools like Log Me In? At present we have Log Me In Rescue which will work for external providers, but was hoping to use Log Me In pro for my own uses, mainly internally to be honest, for easy connecting to computers staff are already on, when they need a little help.

How do you go to Category 2? Does this allow the likes of Log Me In? I always found it to work really well and was excellent for connecting to a session and sharing it. Can't think of the word, but if I rdp, it kicks the current user off of the screen. LMI would screenshare, which was far better .

Hi there, I have an old 2008 server which is under resourced, and needs replacing. I have a suitable, newer server which can run server 2012, however I have never migrated everything over before. The current 2008 server is an FRDC running around 15 client computers for our school admin department. Can I add the 2012 server to the domain as a DC such that it gets gpol and active director and then re-do the shares such as home folders, public areas to the new server 2012? My aim is to decommission the 2008 server. Sorry for the questions, have always started a fresh in the past.

Ahah,thanks for the clarification. I believe the reason for the printing problems is that the server is under resourced. When I finally connected, its ram was maxed out. Biggest process was BE running a overrunning backup. New server time, as this one is about 7 yo.

I have a really confusing problem here and would greatly appreciate any help. I am running Server 2008 R2 with full updates etc. Every so often, my users are reporting that they are unable to print documents and spooling is shown in the print queue. We have established that it is any printer listed on the server. The printers are 100% not at fault. When the error occurs, it can take up to an hour before the print queue clears and the job comes out. It happened this morning, and what I found interesting was that I was still able to browse network shares on the server, ping it and open files, but could not print or open an RDC session. It took over an hour to get an RDC session as as soon as RDC worked, the print jobs started to come out of the printers. This server has not had any changes made to it so I can't understand what the issue is, but when opening Event Viewer for today, I am noticing several of the following errors: TerminalServices-Printers Driver Canon iR3235/3245 Class Driver required for the printer AdminCopierR3245 is unknown. Contact the administrator to install the driver before you log in again. TerminalServices-Printers Driver HP Color LaserJet Pro MFT M177 PCLmS required for printer HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M177fw is unknown. Contact the administrator to install the driver before you log in again. The errors are basically the same for every printer we have on the server (varying models and makes) for any model which was printed to during the time period that this issue happened. Now that the server is responding, these same printers are printing absolutely fine through the same server. I cant understand what the issue is here.

Hi sorry it took me a while to respond. I found out what the fault was but didn't get time to update as it was well past my home time. The fault was with the managed switch. Still trying to get to the bottom of the problem but once I rebooted it, the management light was flashing. Couldn't actually see this via the telnet session, but when I revisited the cab, I noticed straight away. Some of the ports were flashing like normal, but the ones the server curriculum ports were connected to were flashing in sequence with the management light. Unplugged switch from the wall and left it off for a minute or so, when it came back on, all was well and no problems since. As I said, I need to do a little more investigation and find out what the issue was. The switch in question was an HP 2510g-48

I can't quite get my head around this issue. I have a server with four nics. Two for our admin network and two for curriculum. It has been offline since Monday but is on and booted to the OS with no problems. Of the four nics, both of the curriculum ones are responding with sporadic ping responses, see attached. I am currently struggling to gain access to the managed switch (HP non-Vlans). Does anyone know what could be the matter? Was going to powercycle the switch, have bounced server several times, unplugged network cables, disabled nics etc etc etc, so seems more switch based, but all other devices on switch are running without trouble. I am confused by this.

Hi there, We have a HP All-in-One 200-5210uk Desktop PC in our reception area and the user would quite like it on a monitor arm such that it is height adjustable. Does anyone know how I can work out if it has the correct fittings on the back? I have looked it up on the HP site but I can find nothing about it being able to do this? Thanks

Hi, I am suspicious that my 2012 server is not updating. Every time I try to manually update it, it just shows the searching for updates scroller, but never actually finds any updates to install. If I click on 'View Update History', I get a blanks screen. If I visit Programs and Features>View installed updates, I can see that the last update was installed on 23/04/2015 and was Adobe Reader x. Following on from that was: Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008 R2 (KB2528583) (64-bit) installed on 12/04/2015 The last Microsoft Windows update installed was: Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3048778) installed on 16/04/2015. Does anyone else have a 2012 R2 Standard who could compare and tell me if this looks correct?

I am trying to add a Kyocera TasKalfa 3050ci to my 2012 server with Print Management services installed. I open the Add Network Printer installation Wizard and I select either search the network for printers or add a TCP/IP or Web Services Printer by IP address or hostname. I select the appropriate printer from the list, or enter in the correct IP address. I am then asked to confirm the print name and share details. A share name is already inserted which includes the hostname of the printer (confirming it has successfully connected to it). When I click on next, I am shown a summary of everything. Port type is Web Services Printer. I click next and then I get the following error: "Windows could not communicate with the WSD printer. Please check that the printer is online & connected to the network." The printer is certainly online and printing perfectly well from other computers I have manually set it up on. What could be the problem here?

Hi, I have been working with a school who appear to have one rouge Galaxy tablet. Its a GT-N8010 16gb. When you switch it on, the boot screen shows a black screen with: Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 across the front. ...that's it. This screen does not change and if I turn it off and back on again, it just goes back to this screen. Has anyone got any experience on this? I have only ever used iPads, so not too sure if this means it's had it or not.

It has: Server Serial Username DNS Name Password How can I connect to this? I am used to having an IP address.

Hi, I recently had an email from a company called carepack.co.uk, who work in collaboration with HP for warranty related matters. I was just wondering if anyone else had used them. I have an old HP ML350 G5 which runs out of warranty in one month. They had all of the details for it and they are quoting £370 with vat to extend it for a year. Seems quite steep for an old server, wondering if there is a lower HP warranty package for this as it is not a mission critical server. Has anyone used these guys, can you recommend them?

I attended a useful RM seminar last week where they recommended giving Azure from Microsoft a try. It seems you can get it for free if you are a school. I have googled it and got a number of links, but they all seem to be for universities or students studying Computer Science. Has anyone successfully signed up for it and if so how? I can't really enter in professor name and university name when I am working at a school! Don't think they would accept it.

Hi, I have been providing technical and consultancy to a number of schools in a borough, and it is with regret that I have had to let one go as they needed more time and help than I was able to offer them (it's good to be popular). We are leaving on good terms, and I would really like to provide them with a guide on where I feel they should be moving with their ICT. I would like to pass this document on to their SMT, ICT Coordinator and the company who are coming in to replace me. Has anyone ever typed up such a document, and if so, does anyone have any suggestions for what I could call it? My guide contains short bullet points like, moving to managed wireless with a short few sentences on who they should maybe consider using, where to place their controllers etc etc. Things like, computers which I feel could have their lifes extending with more ram. Any help would be great, have been with the place for four years and I really want to make sure they continue to move forward and don't roll backwards. Not sure what the new company will be like, but the guy I met seems quite knowledgeable which is a good start.

Hi, I am not sure if anyone can offer me some assistance on this.. School had been successfully using Apple Airports for WIFI for a number of years with all of their devices including iPads. Recently switched to Cisco managed wireless and ever since, have had problems. The main issue is as follows: Wireless is dropping/flapping on devices, not because of weak signal but it seems inactivity. If you unlock an iPad, you notice that the wireless is not connected. A user must manually re-connect the device by visiting Settings>Wifi and re-inserting the password for wireless. Once connected, the connection will be dropped after a time period of around 10 minutes if the device is not used or locked. To re-connect the above process must be followed again. Is this right?! Have never had this before, and have no access to the controller. The access point in question is a Cisco Aironet 2700 Series Wireless Access Point. Does anyone with a Cisco AP know is there is a way to disable this feature?
