Well spotted, but strangely this batch script still works even with the spaces when it is run manually. I have changed this but still the computers are not installing. Have tried the usual gpupdate /force. Checked gpresult and the policy is showing there so I know it is picking it up. Can't find anything in the logs to help me.

Thanks so much for your post, it has really helped. When I manually ran the batch file, it worked perfectly this time and didn't take all that long. My KMS server seems to have kicked in so no activation issues either. However, I have the script set to run on shut down via group policy. Can you notice anything I may have done wrong there? The batch file is attached to my OP. It works perfectly if I am logged in and execute the batch but not if I restart the computer or shut it down.

Thanks for your reply. I ended up removing the second DC as it was causing chaos when adding client machines to the network. Well over 20 went onto the second DC and I could not get them over to the first one, so had to remove them all and re-join. I will bear this in mind when I re-add the second server as a DC as I need to do this for the Antivirus software. Do I need to edit the DNS settings at all or leave them as they are? The main server has the two external LGFL DNS IP numbers as its forwarders? I had not even installed DNS server on the second server, is that correct?

Hi, I have been experiencing trouble in adding an additional server 2012 dc to run Sophos Enterprise console antivirus. My main DC is running well with the following IP details: IP:10.75.44.10 Sub: 255.255.255.0 GW: 10.75.44.1 DNS1: 127.0.0.1 DNS2: 172.30.178.53 (LGFL DNS server) This server has DNS and DHCP server configured I added a second DC with the following static IP details: IP:10.75.44.11 Sub: 255.255.255.0 GW: 10.75.44.1 DNS1: 10.75.44.10 Server 2 joined the domain with no problems. I continued to spend the day adding systems to the domain and in the afternoon discovered that the active directories between the two systems had not synced. After rebooting and trying various things online, it seemed that they were just not communicating correctly. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong as I can't see a problem with my IP details. Firewall is off. I have even tried DHCP on the secondary DC as the first server is a DHCP server. I was getting errors such as the following: KCC could not add this REPLICA LINK due to error The target principal name is incorrect.

I feel I am going round and round in circles with this. I am trying to deploy office pro plus 2013 to my systems. I have server 2012 and I would like to use Group Policy to deploy it. I have followed several guides now but just cannot get it to work. First I tried with the x64 installer, that did not work so now I have tried the x86 and same thing. I have the setup folder shared to everyone on the network. I have a shutdown batch file set to run on GP which seems to work very well, however when it calls the config.xml file, I get errors. I only know this as I am running the batch script manually to see what happens. I get, Setup Error The setup configuration file \\servername\Applic\Software\Microsoft_Office_2013_SP1\x86\proplus.ww\config.xml is not valid. Verify this file is formatted correctly and run setup again. Here is the file in question:

I am looking for some help in creating a registry script which can help me automate a job which I need to do to 20 HP Laptops. Since imaging them, they work fine, however if a domain user other than administrator logs into one, it kicks them straight back out. I have found that the problem is linked to Ranger but the actual fault is a piece of redundant HP Bloatware which was removed before the imaging of the machine, but appears to still be lingering in the registry. I need to change: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon Userinit from: C:\windows\SysWOW64\RgrUInit.exe,c:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP ProtectTools Security Manager\Bin\DPAgent.exe to: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon Userinit: C:\windows\SysWOW64\RgrUInit.exe, How can I quickly do this using a registry script? Good morning, I would very much like to initiate a chkdsk /f/r on all of the systems on our network. School holidays is an ideal time to get this done. Is there any way I can remotely send this command to all computers, followed by a reboot command?

Hi, Can anyone give me any help on running a group policy setting to prevent users from placing a computer on stand by? We have been plauged with users leaving systems on standby which eventually breaks the domain trust relationship. We have a server 2012 with Windows 7 and 8 clients, plus some 10 clients by the end of the week. I would like to be able to prevent them from putting the computers/laptops onto standby by hiding standby as a shutdown option in the start menu, making the system ignore power button pushes and lid closures. Can this be achieved in server 2012? Also, is there any way of logging off an inactive user account?

I have come across a strange problem on a standalone 8.1 system. For some reason, a local user will be unable to use local system components such as maps, calender etc. When they load the start menu, the metro tiles show, but have small crosses in the bottom right corner. If you try and run any of them, you get an error saying: "This app can't open. There's a problem with %app%. Contact your system administrator about repairing or reinstalling it. What is odd is that this is just for one local user account. Others work fine, and all apps work and open with no errors. I have made a new local user account and it works faultlessly. How can I fix this account?

Ok, I have managed to get a picture of the backplane if that helps in understanding which cable I may need. The backplane has two ports with two cables coming from each.

Next time I am on site, yes certainly, but I can for now describe... The hdd backplane has a circuit board which spans most of the back plane. On each side of the circuit board, one of the sata cables in the silver meshy covering is plugged in. Logic would tell me that the first four drives in this caddy would run from the first sata and the second would run drives 5-8. In addition to the above, there is one red stata cable which is for a small laptop style dvd drive. This stretches along the motherboard past the two stata cables pictured in my previous post and go into the motherboard next to a small heat sink. On the system board components list, The two sata cables coming from the hdd caddy/backplane go to plugs 14 and 15 which are described as: "x4 SATA port 2" "x4 SATA port 1" respectively. The red DVD sata cable goes to plug 11 described as "SATA port 5". See attached alternative picture I took when I was last there.... No, both of those cables go into the hdd caddy (the one pictured with one hdd in it). I double, double checked!

Hi there, Sorry for the confusion. Yes I plugged them into the caddy on the front of the server (all four disks), left the current two cables plugging into the motherboard as they were originally, but nothing is detected on the Smart Array. It just flags up warnings and says that no disks have been detected.

Thanks for your reply. Would the SmartArray not work with the current two sata plugs connected through the motherboard or would they need to go directly into the SmartArray board? It may be that there is a alternative cable somewhere in their boxes of cables and it is just a case of unplugging the existing double cables and replacing for a single which will fit into the back of the Smart Array card.

Hi there, a school I have been working with has recently ordered a new HP ProLiant ML350 Gen9 E5-2603v3 server. It has four 600gb SAS 10k SFF drives and an HP Smart Array P440/4gb FBWC SAS Controller. I don't believe that this is the correct controller for the server as the plug at the rear of the controller is an internal SAS port 1l (it seems far wider than it should be) however the server has two smaller SAS ports. This is what the current controller looks like: I think it should look more like this 440ar as the server has two SATA 6G plugs currently plugged into the motherboard which would fit this controller: Other than this a HP Smart Array P840 looks like it would work. If anyone could help me work out if this is the correct version, I would really appreciate it as at the moment, the server is not detecting any drives.

I have been trying to find some light weight, small, easily portable but powerful laptops. Most of the ones I have found, my SMT are not impressed with. They want something as small as an iPad, but easier to use when it comes to word processing, opening and editing documents. I have never thought of it until now, but wondered if anyone has any comments on a Surface Pro? These appear quite slim, use the same OS the SMT already use and have a keyboard and mouse, just like a conventional laptop. I suppose my only concerns would be the cost. It looks like it would be around £849 with vat for an i5 with 128gb hdd and 4gb ram. I would rather start with an i5 than consider an i3. Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

Yes, I know how to do it via policy, but unfortunately these were either done by netlogon or manually by someone else in the past. It is a right mess as you can't tell a genuine printer from the defunct old stuff. I have not used rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry before. But will look up and see if I can find any scripts. To add to the complications, it seems different rooms have varying names and models of printers from years gone by, which will make scripting a pain.

This has been driving me mad... Windows 2008 FRDC server with Windows 7 clients on domain. Domain user accounts don't have a profile, profile location on Active Directory is left blank. We use Ranger 8 to distribute shared icons and netmaps. Shared printers are deployed via Group Policy. Over the years, printers have been added and removed from the server in varying methods, one of which I presume is manually. As a consequence, when a user logs in, they are given a list of around 12 printers (we only have three now). The rest are all incredibly old ones which were gone years ago. I have tried running DelProf for all locally cached user accounts, however when that user logs in again, I can see that all of the other defunct printers are still showing. If I log in to each machine and manually remove all printers. They then stay gone for good. Is there no way of automating this frustrating process?
