Hi there, I am struggling to find any guidance for my particular situation. I have a new Server 2016, with licences for Office Pro Plus 2016. We have brand new vanilla Windows 10 systems. I was looking to create a Group Policy Object for the deployment of Office 2016 so went down the route of using the Microsoft Office Customisation Tool. I followed an online Microsoft Office guide and downloaded Office Pro Plus (64 bit was my preference) and then created an OCT file. I got to step 2 and it says i should install PDQ Deploy and deploy the software from there. I can't say I have ever done this before and not sure if this is best practice. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

It was %username%, that part of things was working well. Not sure if it was just a permissions fault. I deleted the share and re-did it, so far it is behaving. I will create a couple of new accounts on AD and just double check.

I have the following configured for my Profile$ share folder: The profile path for my test user is as follows: "\\BGF-SR-003\Profile$\%username%" When the user logs in, they are given a temporary profile. The event viewer is showing the following: Any ideas on where I could be going wrong? - Yes the test user is a member of the AdminStaffGroup!

Ahah, I see what you mean. I had tried doing it on the wrong explorer window. It was on the UNC view hence those permission errors. Have done it again and no problems now. Thanks

Thanks, that worked nicely. Any ideas why I am getting this error: Trying to create a Google Chrome GPO. I have followed the guide, Added the following files to Policy Definitions: chrome.admx And the following folder and contents to Policy Definitions: en-GB directory chrome.adm chrome.adml When I open my new, or any GPO, and I open Computer Configuration>Policies Folder I am getting the following error: Administrative Templates An appropriate resource file could not be found for file \\bgfa.internal\SysVol\bgfa.internal\Policies\PolicyDefinitions\chrome.admx (error = 2):The system cannot find the file specified. Have looked up online and there is a resolution for this saying: Making the .adml files available for the language queried for in the correct folder solves the problem. I have tried to copy both the respective adml and adm files to en-US as I am assuming this is the language it is trying to use, but it is saying: You need permission to perform this action. If I click try again the box just comes back up. I am logged on as server administrator.

Ok, thanks. Seems odd locally as the path would be: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain\Policies But my domain is bgfa.internal not "domain".

Hi, I am setting up my first 2016 server. I noticed that there is no PolicyDefinitions folder. If I browse locally, I can get to here: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol\bgfa.internal\Policies\ Then there are the usual {6AC18 etc, etc folders but no PoliciesDefinitions. Am I ok to create one?

Has anyone managed to successfully deploy VNC/WinVNC or similar to Windows 10 stations via Group Policy and made appropriate Firewall modifications via Group Policy? I am looking to undertake this for our systems and would be grateful if anyone has a tried and tested method.

Problem solved, I telephoned the site manager who helpfully bounced the computer for me. What would we do without those guys?!

Thanks, don't think I will be able to work out it's respective port no, unless I reboot the whole switch, but that would cause a bit of disruption for others. Grrrr

So silly of me. I am working remotely on a test Windows 10 station. Having some local DNS issues, have just entered in the command ipconfig /release .... I am on using RDC. What a complete idiot. Does anyone know if it will try renewing after a predefined period or do I need to call someone up and ask them to pull the plug on it and restart it? Thanks in advance, what a fool I am.

Thanks guys, so it is not sounding all that good. The user uses an Apple Mac at home and obviously Windows at the school. That wouldn't make any difference would it?

Another USB related issue. We have a member of staff, who has not backed their work up. They say when they open the folder ringed in the picture below from the root of their USB, it shows the following within the folder. All of this is just nonsense. Is there any way of solving this? I can't think of any ways myself. Identifying features covered in red.

What I noticed was that there was a yellow padlock on her profile folder. For some reason, her profile folder had totally different permissions to any other working user's. I have copied the permissions and so far, so good. The server and client systems are all in a sorry state and need wiping and replacement. Just trying to patch it up to keep it running for the time being.

Hi there, I am helping a school with a poorly configured server and would be grateful of any suggestions on what on earth could be the issue here.... We have one domain user account for a teacher, where ever she uses it she gets the following error: "The group policy client failed the logon. Access denied." Naturally, I have re-created her profile on the server, and this fixes the problem for one logon. As soon as she logs off, and re-logs in, same error again. I have cleared local profiles on the main computer she uses, then reset the server profile, but makes no difference...same problem happens again. If I set up a new domain connected computer, do the above again and log her in on there with a fresh profile on a fresh (never logged into before computer) again, works fine first time, as soon as she is logged off, same error. It only seems to be happening to her. I have even tried deleting her from AD and then re-creating, but same problem. I am at the point of just giving her a local logon for her teaching computer until the school replace the server and get the new one properly configured. Any ideas in the interim? Server is running Ranger 7.0 -could understand if this was happening to all users, very odd it is just one and it is occurring on any network connected computer. Have tried all the usual things, AD user prof folder, mapped drives etc.

Does anyone have any companies they would recommend? LGFL to the rescue. It was a mis-configuration at their end on their router. The reason this happened today was because in the last 24 hrs, over 200 devices have connected and obtained a DHCP lease. We have a reservation of 25 for our IP phones and 25 for printers and servers so this pushed the DHCP leases into the next IP range which is why all of a sudden this issue was unearthed. Just the usual Ofsted scenario, staff panicking and using and switching on everything they have in their rooms despite not using it any other time other than an Ofsted inspection. Deary me. I guess it was actually helpful in one way as it identified a fault at LGFL's end. They were very quick to resolve it which was good.

The default GW on our PCs is the router that is correct (10.75.44.1). Just logged a call with them. Hopefully they can shed some light on it. We have an Ofsted today, so could be doing without this bother.

I will log a call with LGFL. A tracert to google.com failes on the first hop: 1 stm-len-006.stm.internal [10.75.45.5] reports: Destination host unreachable. Trace complete.

hmm, our router is an LGFL one so would have thought it would have been updated where appropriate. Let me check the NICs on the DHCP server. Yes as expected, all of the NICs on the server have 255.255.255.252 configured as expected.

Hi there, I am really quite confused by what is going on this morning. We have the following DHCP range: 10.75.44.45-10.75.47.254. Our IP details are as follows: 10.75.44.0 255.255.252.0 Our DHCP server is our curriculum server 2012 server. The DNS distributed on a DHCP lease is the DHCP server address. Of the systems I have turned on today, all of them are unable to contact the internet. They can ping the local network and domain server, but not the internet. I have checked the IPs for them, and all of them seem to be showing something along the lines of 10.75.45.5, 10.75.45.6 etc. Ordinarily, they would be on 10.75.44.xyz. Does anyone know what would be stopping them from gaining access to the internet? My iPad has the IP 10.75.44.219 and it is working without problem. If I renew the lease, it just keeps picking up the same one. Thanks in advance.
