Thanks isprint84 - The reason I want to do this in the first place is because then I can save the staff/students typing the whole domain name especially as students are on a sepearate subdomain so its: [email protected] So I want to save them typing in the full domain each time.

Talk to Viglen as we had a similar issue last Summer and they solved it with some drivers I believe

We have just migrated 2000 users to Live@EDU and before with RM Easymail users could login via the school website just by putting in there username and password and that would post their details and log them into Easymail. Can you do the same with Live@EDU as I cannot find any articles on the net that tell me I can? Thank you for your help!

Hi Everyone. I put in a new £2500 Colour Printer in our Library over the summer which Students & Staff print to. At the moment I have our librarian changing the restrict colour usage setting on the printer menu which is not ideal. We can pause printing queues and release individual jobs however I would like to know if their are any solutions out their that will ask a student if they would like to print in colour or B&W so they can choose? Hi Everyone. We have had WIFI in our school for a couple of years now (all unsecured, anyone can connect) They are all named by the area or room they are in e.g STAFFROOM. We are about to replace a load and add more due to a few failures. I just wondered what other schools out there do with WIFI... - How do you name them, could I name them all the same e.g. SCHOOLNAME? - Would I have to put them on different channels? - Do you secure your networks, if so how do you allow access? - Is there an easy way to monitor whos logged on where? - Can I force Students & Staff to have to logon with their AD crudentials before getting access to network? Hi. We have 8 MagicInfo screens 47" across our school which are constantly connected to our network. I am having to run Mcafee Stinger on them weekly as viruses are getting on to the system. (firewall is off as this was the only way we could remote into screens using dameware) The viruses such as Conficker are causing SVCHost messages to appear on the screens. Does anyone know if their is a product that can sit and always check for viruses etc on these screens baring in mind they have little memory and a minimal hard drive. Thank you.

Hello everyone. I have been thinking about a better solution for our current situation at our secondary school and thought i would ask you guys for your tips and experience. Currently we have around 70 Staff Laptops of mixed brands that all run XP professional. They are all added to the school domain for use within schools so staff can access SIMS and there network shares. For home use however all Laptops have a second local account called home where they can just log on and do local work. Ideally I would like to offer the option of just logging on with the same user account whether at school or at home. (can this be done on a domain without being connected to domain) And also it would be so helpful to everyone if work stored in their network shared directories could be accesseed at home too with an internet connection. What would be the easiest, safest and most cost effective way of doing this? Thank you for you help

My school already has a gigabyte connection via Fibre around the school and we already use deepfreeze which is a great product by I hate it personally as it takes so much longer to do everything... I only found out about the Microsoft SteadyState version yesterday - Is this better and is it easier to manage MS updates & SIMS updates etc? Also if we were to put antivirus on the Student Desktops could steadystate be asked to allow and keep the updates? How much would I be looking at to just virtualise the APPS then and what is required on the client desktops to do this? Also would I require more Server Power? Thank you.

Hi. A quick question as I need advice from you pro's out there about thin clients and the whole virtulisation scheme of things. I currently work in a UK secondary school with 300 student machines and 1200 student users. The network can be tricky to manage at the best of times with hardware going wrong often. We currently work off 2 IBM X servers which have dual quad core processors and 8gb RAM each What do people think of virtulising machines? - We need to upgrade this year around 80 machines and I was wondering what was required to use the thin clients and if these were a good option for a school of my size. - What does the network infrastructure require and how many servers etc would I need with the view of going to all thin clients over the next few years? The reason for wanting to go to thin clients for me mainly is the advantages it brings in deploying new programmes etc as you would only need to this once and everyone sees the changes with no fuss or hassle and hardware would not go wrong etc. Also what would be needed to use the current desktops we have in a virtual environment - Most Students machines are only a couple of years old and are dual core with 2gb RAM - Could these be setup so that on startup they could login to a virtual machine remotely? Any help & advice would be greatly appreciated and if anybody could provide any rough costings to be looking at that would also be great. Thank you!

Hi Everyone! I am the Administrator for Technology at a secondary school which has around 320 workstations/laptops and 1600 users. We are currently running Vanilla which has its weaknesses we find where policies etc just dont want to work intermittently. We got a quote for RM CC4 who wanted 70k!! to put in their systems which we just laughed at and we were looking at Viglen who have had bad review on these forums but all these posts are a few years old - having been down to Viglen and looking at their classlink 10 software all looks okay. I just wondered if anybody out there has classlink 10 or indeed just has experience with Viglen as I would just like advice and feedback please. Thank you very much.
