  1. I think theres some virtual machines you can download with this kind of configuration.
  2. They produce nice glossy printouts but it can scratch. I have just replaced two 8400 and I would say there running cost is the same as a normal laser. Print speed is excellent.
  3. Just give them a link to their temp directory. They wont be named but they can pick them out because of the icons and rename them.
  4. I have just taken delivery, £4.82 delivered from the US! It is in near new condition. This is the second book I have got from a supplier through Amazon. The other one I paid £12 for rather than £30 as it stated it had a large crease on the cover and pages. I took delivery and it's immaculate! Definitely some bargains to be had This will go nicely with my O'Reilly Perl book
  5. What phone system?
  6. I have been using Nagios on and off for a few years now and one of the things I saw early on was an idea to have a physical traffic light accepting it's state from Nagios. Recently I couldnt find any reference to this but I have now come accross this: NAmpel - the Nagios Ampel Project This looks like a fun/must have project. Thoughts?
  7. We have a Squirrel and a ginger tomcat. I like watching the squirrel after dinner. He hangs of the edge of the bin and pulls food out and puts it on the wall as he goes, once he is done he gaters it up and runs off. The cat skulks around eating alsorts and gives chase to the Squirrel when it appears .
  8. Yes you can use the VIX API on VMWare server or you will have to use the remote VI in the case of ESXi.
  9. Agreed Education licensing is peanuts. It's not worth the headache not to.
  10. SRPs also stop these nice viruses that they seem to have on their USB drives. Sophos tends to delete their autorun.inf files as well which is good for a change.
  11. Just use the Attrib command in log on/off scripts.
  12. I thought as much. All our building and brick and stone so we wont get the kind of range you can.
  13. It runs from any flavour of Linux. When you say friendly your really after some kind of front end. Maybe you could look at the Smoothwall community edition with the necessary mods. It wont be as good as Network Guardian but it would be a start. All the info is on the Smoothwall community forums.
  14. What materials are your building made of?
  15. If you want cheap it will likely be a Linux solution eg Dansguardian and Squid etc. All other solutions will cost plenty of money.
  16. I didn't say scripting on the server
  17. When we did our local radio station project last year I used the windows media encoder on an xp machine that was fed from a line in. I then used windows media services to stream it. This year I will be looking at shoutcast etc as the windows server doesnt do multicast unless your using enterprise (I think) . Since we had a limited amount of clients, I just went with it.
  18. As already mentioned about linux and the ability to mount ISOs. I bet it wouldn't take a lot of work to create a server full of mounted isos then some scripting system to mount them on clients. The only issue would be user right probably on the client which would likely be the downfall of that plan.
  19. If your going down the route of putting important servers onto VMware you will need hardware and software failover. This will mean another server ready to take over from a failing server and using Vmotion which will mean ££££ license costs. You will also need some centralised storage as well like a SAN.
  20. Can you still use the netsh commands to administer DHCP in Server 2008? If so you can export and import using this.
  21. You can specify more than one virtual drive.
  22. When he says "mains issue" he means someone will have unplugged it
  23. You wouldn't say that if you could see what could be done to your machines using the Metaspl0it framework .
  24. I am surprised your domain works at all with them DNS settings. If you clients start selecting the secondary DNS then you will have trouble on your domain. I can chat later on skype if you want.
  25. I thought I was gonna get Rick rolled then Thanks for that looks good.
