Access one of these IPs directly and it's fine. Don't bother trying to config your DNS to point to one of these addresses, already tried, it doesn't work! But this might be an acceptable temporary link for your users.

I'm afraid I had to give up on Xibo - I can see the potential but it just wasn't working for us, which is a shame because it's so cool. In the end I wrote my own solution...it will get us going for now until I have more time to devote to Xibo!

MP3 Player seems to do the trick - it can be set to auto play, and you can specify a playlist. not sure how it would work with files uploaded into frog, but if you stuck everything on your /frogweb/ share it should run OK! Also this player works with SHOUTcast and other MPEG streams, if you just add a semi-colon to the end of the url, e.g. http://server.radio.com:8000/;

Hello all, We have had Xibo installed for a while but just started getting it configured properly with multiple displays this week. I have 7 PCs all running the Xibo client. Each one has a different license key at present, though we may configure a couple with the same key so they show the same layout, but for now it's 7 separate displays. They are all listed as Logged In and their status is good. However, the only way I can get the displays to pick up any changes to a layout, or indeed to pick up that their default layout has changed, is to log off and log back on to a machine...not even just restarting the client seems to fix it. Also once a layout has been picked up, they'll all be running OK, and then sometimes they will show the Xibo client splash screen for a few minutes and then revert back to the layout we've selected! I have turned on Auditing and Logging and Test modes to try and get information from Xibo and the displays, but there's no entries in the log that seem to give any useful information. Clients are all XP, server is IIS with PHP on Win Server 2003. Anyone else had any similar issues or got any tips we can try? Thanks

Sorry for the stupidly late reply guys. It's mostly server admin that I do. But wanted to look at Cisco stuff because all of that is completely foreign to me. I have done some mickey-mouse VLAN configuration on Netgear switches but no 'proper' switch stuff. Which I guess is kind of irrelevant for what I'm actually doing in my job. Hmm.. Thanks for the tips - I think I will investigate MS stuff a little closer

Hi guys, Had a look around but I'm afriad I can't find any other threads on this one. Just successfully configured Squid just fine, but now trying to add SARG to try and make sense of the log files. When running sarg I just get the following: SARG: Records in file: 305, reading: 100.00% SARG: No records found SARG: End SARG is definitely reading my squid access.log just fine, as if I run it again the 'records in file' value increases, so it can see the right thing, but for some reason SARG just drops out saying no records found when they're clearly there! I have set SARG output directory, but is there anything else I've missed? Any suggestions on this would me most grateful For info- Squid and SARG running Windows versions on Server 2003.

If you don't get anywhere with Test Disk, I'd recommend Active Undelete http://www.active-undelete.com/undelete.htm This may help: "Recovers files from deleted, damaged, formatted or reformatted partitions" It's paid-for, about US$80, but really rather good.

Personally, and these are probably not the thoughts of the rest of our team, I would avoid them. In my experience of using them here at school they're just a pain in the behind. Endless problems of the wrong colours sent in the wrong boxes, the cartridges even labelled up incorrectly, the yield doesn't seem to be that great and they sometimes report as empty when they've just been installed, or indeed full when they've been heavily used. Also I don't think the print quality is that great either, especially compared to the genuine stuff. Having said that, I'm mostly talking about non-OEM colour ones. The one or two mono-only replacements we have had aren't too bad, as they're just used in offices for odd jobs though really. But on the whole, for good quality prints, I'd stick with the genuines. Now of course these are the ones from our supplier, others may be better, just writing from experience

Thanks everyone - some really handy stuff here I'm thinking about starting Cisco in September, as it's only (I mean only!) £250 for the 8 week course plus it appears to be kinda more relevant 'now' to what's going on in my current post. Now, a question: there's 4 sections mentioned in the course info, so am I right in thinking that as our local college offers 4 courses this academic year, I would pay to sit through one of those sections on each of the courses, with a Cisco exam at the end of each section? For example, in September I'd start "Exploration 1 - Network Fundamentals", in November I'd start "Exploration 2 - Routing Protocols and Concepts" and so on...or indeed sit through any of the sections I would find most interesting/relevant? And do you have to sit through each one in order, or can you do whichever one you want? Apologies for all the questions, I'm sure you can appreciate this is all new to me! Thanks guys

Hi guys, Our Frog VLE (shudder) has this Secure Gateway thing that allows you to login from home and use one of the machines in school by means of Remote Desktop. Aside from the obvious pain that we're going to have to leave all of the desktop computers on in a computer room, I now need to look at giving student and staff users access to initiate remote desktop sessions to desktop computers. Not ideal but it looks as if this is how we're going to have to do it...without buying a big fat terminal services server. Now, access to initiate RD connections is obviously in place for us Domain Admins so we can install software remotely etc, but how on earth would I go about allowing students to start RD connections to desktop computers in teaching rooms? When attempting to logon as a student user, I get the message "You do not have access to logon to this Session". Any ideas about where in AD I would begin looking for this kind of thing? Any hints welcomed Tom.

Hi guys, I've been working in a secondary school as an IT Tech for nearly three years now, and I'm looking at moving on, and wondering what kind of qualifications I need to gain in order to progress. I was very fortunate in joining a local secondary school as an IT Tech straight from Sixth Form. I left with an A-Level in ICT, English and French, plus my GCSEs, but I have no other formal qualifications. IT-tech wise, I'm relavitely competent in configuring switches, working with XP desktops, Active Directory, DNS + DHCP, IIS, Apache, Linux boxes, plus server and desktop hardware etc. So what I'm after is what you think would be sensible qualifications for me to look at taking. Something like CCNA, or would Microsoft qualifications be more recognised or indeed sought after when applying for another schools IT post? Also if I were to go with something like MS qualifications, does anyone have any general information about them? For example what's involved? Home study? Study at college Any recommendations of companies/organisations to study with? Study guides? Any information you've got would be much appreciated Thanks, in anticipation! Tom.

Just in case this helps: we're using a load of Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanners with our iMacs. They're A4 size with negative scanning and lots of other jazzy bits, and they all work very nicely.

We have a few of the Aspire Revo R3610s as thick clients, and they work surprisingly well...they even run Photoshop CS4 without *TOO* much moaning. To be honest they do have the 'Dual Core' Atom processors, that may have something to do with it, but they're brilliant machines. I have experimented with using them as thin clients too, and they're great. Supplied with their own VESA mountings, screw onto the monitor in seconds and you're away. Highly recommended.
