Thanks psydii. That looks like it could be it. Default behaviour changed on 14/6 which ties in with what we're seeing. I'm assuming this is a change Capita need to make. At least we can modify our deployment procedures to cover for now.

Morning all. Is anyone else having issues installing SIMS from SOLUS3 since last weeks Microsoft patch Tuesday? We've been installing SIMS from SOLUS without issue for ages. Started rolling out a new OS build and then deploying without anything unusual. However, this week, we now can't get the push to go through. We get an "Install failed" and the note stating that "Access denied to the remote machine". We've tried to redeploy the image, and not run updates. This allowed SOLUS to run the install. I'm pretty sure it's the most recent update, but I need to do more testing to confirm. Cheers.

Hyper-V Cluster - VM Showing in Node Hyper-V Manager

Good call! That seems to have done the trick. Thanks so much for that. It's always the simple things you don't think of in the heat of the moment. -
Hyper-V Cluster - VM Showing in Node Hyper-V Manager

Both nodes showing as up and look as normal from the cluster side of things. -
Hyper-V Cluster - VM Showing in Node Hyper-V Manager
LansITGuy posted a topic in Windows Server 2019
Hi all. Not sure how to explain this one, but found a weird issue after an outage over the weekend. Long story short, had to take both nodes of a two node Hyper-V cluster offline via a full host shutdown. Full hyperconverged setup using StarWind VSAN to replicate storage between the nodes. When the cluster has come up and storage is synced, I've brought all VMs back online on one node whilst I troubleshoot the second. In this process I can see all the VMs in Cluster Manager and systems are running as normal. However, I have noticed that the second node is listing some of the VMs in Hyper-V Manager. These VMs are powered off, but are references to VMs already running in the cluster via the other node. Not all VMs from the cluster are listed. I think it's just those that were running on the host before the outage. I've never seen VMs show both inside and outside of the cluster at the same time. Has anyone else? If so, does anyone know how to remove the duplicates? Trying to Google this one and drawing a bit of a blank. Thanks all! -
[ms office - o365] How to add Draw to ribbon automatically?
LansITGuy replied to Paid_Peanuts's topic in Office Software
Did you manage to get anywhere with this? I've just had our Head of IT ask for the same thing and so far I'm not finding much. Cheers. -
Well, note to self: Never assume a driver pack is installed. Looking back over our process, we installed the Surface with our base image from MDT. Looks like the full drivers did not get picked up during updating. Everything was listed in Device Manager and so I assumed no issues - wrong! Driver pack MSI from Microsoft appears to have fixed it. I noticed a slight change in screen colour too, so there may be a few other minor changes in the new drivers. Thanks again tapb for the suggestions and hopefully this might help others who fall for the same mistake. Cheers all.

Thanks tapb for you help. This is what is strange. I've never had to do anything before to get a Surface pen working. The unit is a Classroom Pen 2 and should be supported by the Pro 7. I initially assumed bluetooth as the pen does take a AAAA battery and has some buttons on it. Currently nothing happens when the pen is touched on the screen. No support apps allow drawing and even pressting the pen on the Start button causes nothing to happen. Never seen this occur before with earlier Surfaces or similar tablets. We tried a few pens and the same thing is happening (i.e. nothing). I'm going to try a reinstall of the driver pack for the Surface and see if that does anything different.

Afternoon all. Well, this is the most technically embarassing post I think I've ever had to write. We have some new Surface Pro 7s for staff along with Classroom Pens 2. The pens do not pair with the devices and I can't find anything to show the process. All devices are new and batteries are installed (the correct way). Nothing seems to let them pair with bluetooth, although one spec page for the pens seems to indicate they don't use bluetooth. Other notes say to hold the top button in for 5-7 seconds, but there's no top button. We've tried all other buttons on the device but still not joy. Has anyone got these things to work before we pull all of our hair out! Cheers.

Good afternoon all. We've had one of the weirdest issues I've ever seen come through the office and I though I'd pose this to the hive mind to see if anyone else has ever seen this or has any ideas what could be going on. To preface, this is a GeoBook from the DfE project. A pupil has found that their keyboard has stopped working. We've done the usual tests such as remove drivers, ensure the device is enabled etc and no joy. But, we have found that if we open Setting > Ease of Access > Keyboard, the keyboard starts to function. Just by opening that menu they keyboard kicks in. Reboot the device and the keyboard stops again until we open that menu. SFC has been run and no major issues found and the drivers seem to be up to date. No other devices show the same issue, but we don't have many out. Does anyone have any clues? This is just a minor, but annoying, weird one! Cheers all.

Just came here to check on this too. AR have taken a load of samples from us and are reporting that the issue is with BTLS. and not anything specific to us. They also acknowledge other LCC schools reporting the same issues. They haven't given me much to go off on what exactly to pass on, but I don't believe this is specifically the filtering. Seems more network related, but I can't understand why the service works one day and not the next. Of course it's working today. Did anyone here back from BTLS if anything has changed before I chase them up?

Thanks for the info psydii. Thanks for that. I've never seen that mentioned anywhere so is good to know. Change is in the system so we'll see what happens next.

Afternoon all. Trying to look into an issue between some pupils. I'm Global Admin for the tenancy, but eDiscoery will not let me get a PST file. I can run a search and download the Excel files, but I can't even preview results in the browser etc. I've gone into Security and Compliance > Permissions and tried to add myself to eDiscovery Manager. But, when I look for my name in there, I don't show up. In fact only 50, seemingly random, users do show. Does anyone know how to get this to work? I'm completely at a loss as I am in the Discovery Management group in Exchange Admin, which I swear used to work. Cheers!

Just had a laptop sent back with a smashed screen. Obviously out of warranty with that one. I assume it's up to the school to fix? No spare units to give to the family as they've all gone out and it doesn't look like we're holding families in anyway accountable.

Is anyone else getting reports that not all attendees to a meeting are able to see a screen share? I think this is mainly affecting sharing of the full display and not just a PowerPoint. I've been sent a screenshot by one pupil who seems to get the issue. However, their policies match all other pupils. I can't see any differences anywhere. I also get informations sometimes that sharing of PowerPoints shows on some pupils screens but not others. From what I'm hearing, this doesn't effect the same pupils all the time. Again, there's no differences anywhere. All classes synced by SDS for what it's worth. Cheers.
-
Thanks for that. That matches what I'm thinking, although we have had some odd issues pop up over the last few days. Randomly teachers have started getting directly applied meeting policies (RestrictedAnonymousAccess) when they should come from a group membership. That's new! Plus trying to get a recording removed has proven to be impossible even though Microsoft support can confirm our settings are right. It's turning into a long week.

So, I've had reports that a pupil may have been removing others from a Teams class meeting yesterday. Is there anyway to get any logs of actions taken during a meeting? My assumption is that the teacher didn't mark them as attendees, but I would just like to get more info for personal reference. I've found logs for logging in and making changes to the Team, but nothing seems specific to see who attended a meeting and what actions were undertaken. I'm guessing this should be somewhere? Thanks all.

Afternoon all. As I type this, I have no idea how best to explain it, but let's give it a shot! All of our class data is hosted in SIMS and uploaded to O365 by SDS for Teams classes. Everythig works well. But, we have carousel classes. These groups change their members each half term or so as the pupils move through the different subjects within the carousel. The class code on the timetable remains the same each time, but the list of pupils in the class will change. We only went live with Teams last term and so SDS did the trick and created the carousel groups correctly with the correct pupils. Now we have moved to the next group and so the pupils list for each class has changed in SIMS. If I upload the new data via SDS I will get the correct list of pupils in the Team, but I suspect I will still get all of the last classes content. So, a new class could see the last classes chat history and files. So I suspect I should delete the Teams effected before running the new SDS sync. That would recreate blank classes with the correct pupils in them. But, some staff want to keep the files in place to prevent them having to re-populate their content. I don't think this is possible, but wanted to check with the wider community. Does anyone know a way of selectivly clearing parts of a Team out before re-syncing with SDS? The more I think about it, the more work I suspect this will lead to. Each department will probably have different needs, but I just want to see if anyone has had to do this kind of thing before and has any ideas. Thanks all!

Has anyone had any part of a delivery go missing? We were supposed to get 16 (plus one Chromebook I think). A box of 8 showed up, leaving another 8 MIA. Contacted DfE and Computacenter and got a quick reply that they were looking in to it through supply chain and delivery. Now gone silent and they're not answering my chases for an update. I've had the full lists of serials and admin passwords, but not the kit. SLT not jumping in to help, but getting jumpy because they've not all arrived.
-
Perfect. Thanks for the confirmation. I'll throw a request at BTLS to give the issue a bit more of a push for us all. It's so amusing that it's more educational level content than entertainment stuff that's getting blocked.

Good morning everyone. Is there anyone on the CLEO network with NetSweeper experiencing intermittant issues with YouTube vides? We are seeing a number of videos failing to load with the "Video unavailable. This video is restricted. Try signing in with a Google Apps account". What is really odd is that I am signed in to Google with my personal account. The issue has even now shown up on the top advert on the YouTube homepage. Not all videos affected, but a number seem to be on any system around our network but not outside of school. I've looked at the NetSweeper logs and nothing stands out as blocked. Another affected video seems to be: Thanks in advance to anyone who can take a look. Cheers!

Sorry, I did check the article, but just to clarify, we don't have any event 2213 entries in either DC's DFS event log. Following the last unexpected shutdown (due to power loss) we see a 2212 warning followed by 2214 about 5 seconds later indicating that the replication service has successfully recovered from the unexpected shutdown. Thanks again for any suggestions.

Thanks. Ran from my workstation and all looks normal. That is all of our DCs listed.

Thanks for the suggestion Chris. I've been stuck with other issues first, so haven't got to this yet, but I was just wondering about a few things before I do this. 1 - Do I run this on the server which does not seem to be in sync? DC1 has all the FMSO roles, but it is this server which seems to be incorrect. DC2 looks to have all the correct files. 2 - The only reference I've been able to find about the command you suggested is that it would be run after hotfix KB2663685. Based on Get-HotFix in PowerShell, this is not installed on either server. For what its worth, running the following command on each server shows that SysVol is in state 4 (Normal). Not sure if that's any help or not. I might be being a bit over cautious here, but I've never seen a Netlogon / SysVol replication issue before. Thanks again for any advice!
