Yep 100% a library problem Any one got a guide on the best way to edit the Librarys Every time a user logs in these Change I want to direct them to U:\My Pictures U:\My Documents U:\My pictures
-
Ok looks like this is a library problem When i edit the library file , to change the location of the directory i.e. U:\My Pictures ( Via notepad) The gui displays this as a UNC pathway instead of a U:\ It wont let me edit it via the GUI , it says the network location is not indexed
-
Hi a quick one hopefully Downloads is redirected to U:\Downloads for each pupil This in turns sets the default download directory on Edge This is fine apart from when saving pictures , If i right click a pic and do "Save picture as" it brings up a UNC pathway to "My Pictures" . The problem with this is we block UNC path ways .. So in turn ( I ASSUME BUT DONT KNOW ) Edge cant save the pic . If i do "Save picture as" but click the "Pictures" Icon under "THis PC" this then follows the default U:\My Pictures pathway . Im struggling to find where edge is getting this UNC pathway from for saving to "My Pictures" All the Documents , Pictures and Libraries follow the U:\ which is mapped as their homedirectory in AD.

Found out also that when you disable the option for "hidden Files" they can still enable it again via file explorer in Windows 10 Had to create a GPO and use some ones custom adm template to grey out the option.

Thanks , Might be the option .

Ok first hurdle , Unsure wehat other people do on this , But on Windows 10 the power button doesn't display logoff . Only restart and shutdown. I know you can click on the user account icon and sign out , I also added a nice sign out button to the start menu tiles. Kids are still shutting down the machines ! despite my best efforts. Any way of adding the "sign out" to the shutdown button ?

[1903, au] Profiles - Mandatory for Kids, Roaming for Staff - Possible in W10?
2097 replied to JRA's topic in Windows 10
Im also just rolling out mandatory & roaming on windows 10 ( only 1 suite atm ) Roaming on 1903 def breaks a lot of the builtin windows 10 apps ( i.e. calculator and photos) But ! they are pretty rubbish any way and can be replaced pretty easily This week will be my initial test with them , If it causes a lot of issues then ill be going local.. -
As part of the general consensus in this thread i have set the default browser to edge. I get what people are saying that IE11 is outdated. I am running IE11,Edge and Firefox ( really not a chrome fan) They are all listed in the start menu tiles for users to choose. I have office 2019 installed and we run exchange in house ( 2016 ) . I noticed some one said something about outlook profiles being corrupted when using roaming profiles on windows 10, Is this still the case with the required GPO's enabled and running 1903 ?
-
If you know the websites , You can do direct shortcuts to the URL's and reference IE's exe . I do the same with firefox

My first ICT suite on windows 10 . The oldest of the machines so had to upgrade the ram and hdd to SSD ( They are 3rd Gen i5's ) Everything is working as expected . The only annoying issue i can see is i have set the default browser to IE11 , but everytime a kid logs in ( after their Profile is deleted , after reboot) i get an annoying toast prompt saying the browser has been reset to Edge , Yet it stays as IE11. I have disabled the Toast notifications for the mean time , But very strange its attempting to reset it ( especially at login ! )

Quite difficult to understand Microsoft intentions with these . Ive also seen reports that they are ditching U-EV profiles... So totally confused on what to use. Also i noticed that the apps are still broken despite the fix above ( worked ok once ) , Either going to install replacements for calculator and Photo viewer or try and find a bodge fix some where .

Thanks every one for the information . Im not sure i can change the profiles atm , because of the side by side running with windows 7. But Something to look at when its a full rollout. Since reading the above problems , I have fixed a few things Windows Store apps not loading for roaming and mandatory - Enabled Allow deployment operations in special profiles via GPO ( Computer based not user ), all now work .. Start menu for roaming users - I currently inject LayoutModification.xml as part of the task sequence but was still experiencing the tiles dropout on 2nd login . I have set the XML file in GPO to apply the start menu tiles and added the SpecialRoamingOverrideAllowed key in the registry . They now load everytime . Obviously the staff members wont be able to apply their own icons but its fine for now. Weirdly this didnt affect the mandatory profile , that seems to load fine everytime. Also im running 1903 Education for any one interested.

Sounds like WMI filters are the way to go Thank you . Also thanks for telling me about the roaming profile issue , is any one here using both roaming and mandatory and experiencing problems ? From my testing the profiles seem to work fine .

Our of interest is any one doing this atm for testing ? Im ready for testing windows 10 in a single ICT suite We are currently windows 7 , Man profiles for kids and Roaming for staff . I have been building the 10 base image and default / man profiles for 10 and everything is fine. I have also created a new GPO's for windows 10 to seperate them from old GPO's. Profiles aint a issue because of the .v6 , But more the applying of GPO's What i have done is create a OU called windows 10 , all windows 10 machines will go in there. I have blocked inheritance and enabled loop back mode and also put my userbased GPO's into the same folder as the computer GPO's. Am i right in assuming any computer in that "windows 10" folder will only apply the user based GPO and Computer based GPO's from the "Windows 10" folder. Please give me a nod if you agree

Seem to have a random issue with some aftermarket Cherry mac keyboards we have We have around 25 of them . Randomly keys stop working on the keyboards like the "G" key and the number "6" Macs are locked down with centrify so need to workout whats causing it , at first i thought it was a dodgy keyboard lot as they are now "Discontinued" but i just tried one in my windows pc and it works , also another mac and the key that was faulty is now ok . The issue is still present after a reboot , and also when at login screen ! so kinda rules out any keyboard bindings you can do in accessibility if the kids are logged on. Any one else had this problem ?

We had tons of problems with our version installing silently My script is the following had to script in the install certificate key had to push out a boot.ini for the license key server The hasplm.ini needed to be modified for each machine as the computer names needed to be different , so the VBS in the script gets %computername% and modify's it. This was for Windows 7 , but the script works fine for windows 10 also. IRC windows 7 requires this update "Windows6.1-KB2921916-x64.msu" also
-
Yep i agree , i have added Shutdown and logoff now which works fine Just one more icon to complete now
-
Ok i think my shortcuts are a bit faulty by creating them with another account . Trying GP to create one with a %username% variable
-
Sorry to resurrect this thread My start menu consists of the following All show fine , except the Desktop and Documents Shortcuts . I have actually moved them into "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" but it fails to show them as tiles . Office applications in the same location display fine. Any one else got Documents and Desktop shortcuts ? Did you create them your self ?
-
Ok first image went fine , going to run it again
-
Thanks for that , noticed one thing wrong on mine . I didnt have "Enhanced" storage set on the boot image. Giving it a test image now to see what happens !
-
Whats strange is , the script worked fine first time around . Now i get this ( This is the PS log that it writes to the C:\ ) Logging to \remove-selectedw10.ps1.log Get-AppxPackage : The term 'Get-AppxPackage' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again. At C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\CHA000D2\remove-selectedw10.ps1:52 char:17 This is the problem i was having with a lot of scripts i use . I have activated powershell in the bootimage In the task sequence its set as a powershell script with a package , and the script name is remove-selectedw10.ps1
-
I really did struggle finding a script that worked ( which also logged everything ) that was deployable in a TS ( not a capture ) Yours worked fine thank you.. ( heres a slight update on programs to remove ) $AppsList = "microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps","Microsoft.WindowsAlarms","Microsoft.SkypeApp","Microsoft.ZuneVideo",` "Microsoft.ZuneMusic","Microsoft.YourPhone","Microsoft.XboxApp","Microsoft.WindowsSoundRecorder",` "Microsoft.Wallet","Microsoft.People","Microsoft.OneConnect","Microsoft.Office.OneNote",` "Microsoft.MixedReality.Portal","Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes","Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollection","Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub",` "Microsoft.Microsoft3DViewer","Microsoft.Messaging","Microsoft.Getstarted","Microsoft.GetHelp",` "Microsoft.WindowsFeedbackHub","Microsoft.WindowsMaps","Microsoft.BingWeather","Microsoft.XboxGameOverlay",` "Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay","Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider","Microsoft.XboxSpeechToTextOverlay","Microsoft.officehub" Now to remove onedrive

Office 2016 - Featured Templates error on Windows 7 SP1
2097 replied to 2097's topic in Office Software
Unfortunately being a lone solider with a 600 machine network i don't want to be too hasty pushing out a windows 10 image. Any major problems with a image i haven't tested properly to try and "beat" the windows 7 end of support date would be a disaster. More than likely my "push" will be Christmas time, but either way this is about me trying to get "office 2016" working correctly, not trying to "bodge" the issue by prematurely upgrading all my machines on a OS i haven't fully tested and built yet. But thanks anyway -
Office 2016 - Featured Templates error on Windows 7 SP1
2097 replied to 2097's topic in Office Software
To some extent i agree. But i wont be doing Windows 10 until next summer or this christmas because i would like all my servers to be on 2019 and want to rigorously test my image builds first before deployment. Office 2016 will be a good transition as i wouldn't want to through every one on a new OS and office 2010 at the same time .. it will be a melt down for the technically challenged. Either way.. Unsure why myself and others are getting this error ?
