I've just come out of a meeting with our account manager @ Advanced to discuss the new reporting suite (ProMetrix) and talk has turned, as expected, to Progresso. We looked at it 4 years ago, and it looked promising, but the horror stories, oh the horror stories. We're currently running FacilityCMIS quite happily on a virtual 2008R2 server, so I've no pressing need to change anything until the end of maintenance, ~2020. But for that reason, I've not looked into Progresso for some time, so I was wondering: is anyone using it now and happy with it? Is it a worthwhile improvement on Facility + ePortal? This is very much just a curiosity post and we wouldn't likely move for a couple of years or more, but it'd be nice to get an idea of where sentiment and thought currently lies.

Oooh sorry, the "users can only point and print to these servers"? Yeah, that's set with the FQDN. Tried ticking the "in their forest" box as well, tried various combinations of security prompts, nothing.

We don't deploy by GPO anymore (it wasn't reliable for us, for whatever reason), we deploy by VBS script at logon, which is fine without this update. That does add via NetBIOS not FQDN, because I was too lazy to type the full thing out, but altering it didn't seem to make any difference. I would expect the manual add and the script behaviour to match up right now, given that it's all worked OK in the past.

It's normally added via the NetBIOS name e.g. as \\server\printer. I just tested with the FQDN \\server.domain.local\printer and it didn't change anything, alas, despite my brief surge of hope that it would When I say added via IP, I mean I can add it by going directly to the printer (i.e. not via the print server queue) and when it asks for a driver, point it at \\server\c$\Drivers\ and it will install fine. It flashes up the unsigned warning, as expected, but doesn't block it outright. Just to confirm that uninstalling the update does resolve the issue, but it's the kind of vulnerability I would rather have patched in the long run...

Yeah, I found that thread and have been trying to find further clues in it, but no joy so far. I should add that our printers are normally mapped via .vbs logon script. EDIT: just hit the drama. Good god, reddit, get it together.

KB3170455 from July's round up is giving me grief. It closes down a two decade old vulnerability in the print service installing anything without question, allowing for malware from poisoned devices. It also now seems to be blocking network printers being installed from the print server. If I--even as an administrator--try to add the printer manually, I get the following error: The driver in question is unsigned, because it's an HP one I've modified to set various defaults. It works fine on computers outside my patch test area, so it is definitely KB3170455 at fault. I've followed the instructions here. I can add the printer by IP and then point at the driver on the print server and it installs, but trying to add by share name (\\server\printer) gives the error above. Anyone else hit this and solved it yet?

Probably but it's almost unavoidable elsewhere on the internet, so if it's still low enough on the ground here that it can be missed, that seems like a win for EduGeek and its level of class "Kneejerk reactionary" seems less of a value-judgement to me, as SJW is often thrown at people purely on the basis of what their opinion is (i.e. from a conservative to a liberal, aka "libtard"), regardless of the level of thought, research or experience involved in forming that opinion. I'm being overly touchy here because the flame wars going on in SF circles are genuinely hurtful and divisive and spilling over into ludicrous campaigns around awards (Rabid Puppies etc.), so I see a lot of phrases like SJW thrown around--often by people spewing forth a poorly-researched diatribe designed to prove how righteous and edgy they are without any consideration for who they're attacking not at all saying that's what's happening here, and none of this is in any way an attack. I'm just saying that's why I'm so averse to it as a phrase, and having a polite conversation to that end On-topic (ish, as it's not a film): watched the first season of Line of Duty on Netflix over the weekend. Seems like any other BBC police drama, which is not normally something I'd get excited over, but it was seriously good TV in the end. Ended up binging all five episodes!

In three years we have found no use whatsoever for them. We nabbed a couple each for an extra RAID0 in our machines, but realistically... too small to be of any use anywhere. Hand 'em out like candy; maybe ride through town in the back of a convertible and throw them to the crowds?

I'm not in the high usage bracket at all--I only have 500mb data--but 4G is all but indistinguishable from WiFi in speed and seems to have much better coverage than 3G for me out here in the sticks. I wouldn't go without out, especially as you're committing for two years.

Yeah, it's just a convenience thing. It's deliberately built to be entirely optional. I never bothered until I saw the list of W3 install files

Yeah, after all the excitement of the practice sessions and qualifying, the race was dull. Entirely predictable and the overtakes were all in the same place, and Hamilton lost his chance for a fight through a bloomin' steering wheel switch. My opinion may also have been negatively influenced by my making a last minute switch on my fantasy line up from Perez + Bottas to Hulkenberg + Ricciardo, after Bot & Per both had issues in FP3. Shouldn't have done that

Just started that last night... need a new graphics card 2GB of VRAM on my 680 is not enough for 1440p. Trying to retrain my fingers away from DmC to Witcher combat is hard as well. I keep throwing bombs when I want to evade. This is, er, not the best survival technique.

Apparently some bolts came loose, so they've welded down the kerbs. FP2 starting on schedule now, supposedly, but Channel4.com is telling me the programme on More4 is unavailable (FP1 on the main channel was fine)

Apparently the main straight is so ludicrously long that, with slipstreaming, we might see double overtakes--which, of course, is the same as no overtake at all. Looks pretty dusty on the track, and apparently windy, so could see some slipping and sliding even without rain.

Looks terrifyingly tight from onboard, doesn't it? Force India are looking good as well, while Ferrari and RBR are well down. Too early to be representative though, I suppose, still too unfamiliar.
