I think you'll struggle finding a cheap gigabit adsl all in one router. My advice would be to echo the DD-WRT suggestion (recently done this myself) and if you need gigabit (why if there's only 1 hard wired PC?) put a switch in behind the router to provide this.

Hi Jon, Which language are you using to generate the login box? You can pass the value from a text box (as a variable) to uttsc with the -u argument to pass it through to the windows box.

Hi Dave, I'm with the guys asking why from scratch really mate, if you're looking to build a community a good foundation is a solid proven and familiar system. It's all very well and good writing stuff from scratch if you need a competitive edge that isn't met with current offerings but I'm not sure of your objectives (please do tell us) and you might find that a forum such as phpBB, SimpleMachinesForum, IPB or such like with a nifty theme (cheap), & some modules if necessary for desired functionality is a lot quicker and less painful than starting from scratch and having to write lots and lots of functionality in together with the bugs etc they bring. Please do tell us a bit more about what you're after as there's enough of us in this community with the knowledge and experience in building / growing communities and meeting the needs of forum users. Is DNS working on the DNS servers? (DCs probably) Is the server/workstation service running on the servers? Can you access the sysvol share on each domain controller from the other domain controllers? Do you have the FSMO roles on a single server or spread out? EDIT: Firewalls enabled on the servers?

Release due 25th. How did you set the task up? My personal method is to boot the host up itself, do a quick inventory (so it goes and creates the host record etc in fog on your behalf, assign the kernel and the image and then capture it).

Hi there, I can't speak for Leics but in Northants there's development in place which is upgrading some schools to 20mbit from the previous 10. I think you need to speak with your LA more indepthly as it might be possible to allow feeder<>your school comms over the EMBC network rather than the "internet" which could in theory allow you quicker inter site access without the large cost for a fatter internet pipe. Grumbledook is the Northants LA technical manager who deals with EMBC a lot, he might be able to offer some speculative advice.

What should the 'script' do? Looks like what you're after is some instructions on how to configure the home page and how to teach staff to take the register?

Hi Divaldo, Are you a member of the EMBC? If so, this should be a question you pose to your LA. If not, how many computers do you have on the go, and do you have indicative figures of the data you need to back up from the feeders?

My trace stops at a router in synergyworks.co.uk which probably right before the subsequent host(s) ignoring icmp. The key here is to check that the IP is correct as I've previously given (and yes, its the same as linuxweb1.veloxserv.co.uk) and to see if telnet can reach it (to rule out any app specific hackery)

Everything may resolve either way that doesn't mean the IP is correct. (for example if you use opendns or ntl's dns servers with their helpful guessing it will return an IP regardless) A traceroute is a good idea, and it could very well be the BT router but if its just these sites that seems a little unusual. Please confirm the IP is correct.

It resolves the correct IP yes? (91.204.208.41) Try and telnet Radiant Physiotherapy 80 and see if that connects. (Sigh, windows 7, probably won't have telnet available) No proxy configured? Firewalls that can be turned off? Alternative browser?

Can you ping the hostname for the site and return the correct IP?

Be also aware linux users that the release key has been changed so you will need to apt-key it. For Debian/Ubuntu

Hi there, These days in most Sun Ray configurations it is not 'essential' to have option 66 in place as the Sun Ray will try 3 different ways of finding a server (DHCP Options, DNS Entries, Broadcast). Is this a system you support yourself or do you have a support partner? (If the latter, mention the DNS Method to them and see if they can help you). We have FOG running alongside Sun Ray in a few deployments and they are fine together. If you're seeing the Novell Zenworks server it's possible you have some dhcp helpers of sorts on your switching or more likely when the lan booting computer is asking for PXE this server is replying, might be worth disconnecting it temporarily to see if it then goes and finds the FOG box. For your password delegation perhaps this would work quite well? I think writing bespoke password reset software would be quite far down my list of priorities if there are profile / network access problems at the moment. For staff if the computer is shared I would keep the security just as tight (until/if this becomes a problem) but I was much less restrictive on personal laptops so they could install software etc without burdering my team to do this for them. (We simply did this by granting them local admin rights on their device only) It's good that you're listening and responding to everyone, a great trait for working in edu IT!
