  1. I've got one of these guys plugged into my Zotac Zbox (AMD E-350 version) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-NL571AA-USB-Graphics-Adapter/dp/B001TPIRXC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1340535345&sr=8-2 Main display from the box goes out onto a 22" monitor and then the USB graphics thingy powers a 17" display quite well. Video playback on it is ok for things like keynotes but anything that runs at a faster pace (e.g. game trailers) drops frames. One thing to note though is that the little Atom CPUs don’t have nearly as much processing power as a AMD E-350 which could explain why its working for me.
  2. Long live App-V OS, App-V client and Office 20xx pre cached - much less than 20GB
  3. Hi all, I've got one of the @Axel M80s on trial at the moment with a view to do a little review of its use with VDI-in-a-Box and I was wondering how everyone here is using their M80s? By that I mean- Do you use them with RDP/ICA? Do you use them as student facing kit and so what applications do you run on your backend servers? How do you find the performance on media intensive sites? and anything else you would like to share I'm keen to do a positive review as the device is very small, comes with a VESA mount and has a near perfect price however I want to find the perfect usage scenario to test it in to make it a fair review. Thanks!
  4. One thing you might want to keep in mind is that if you intend on using Lync for desktop sharing (to remotely fix issues) you have to get the user to click on any UAC prompts (unless you turn off UAC compleatly).
  5. If you call up Novatech they can do bespoke stuff We are getting them to put together some of their nBox HDs for us with 60GB SSDs.
  6. Shuuush don't give away my secret world domination plan
  7. lol someone had to mention it Just wait until I put together showcaseyourvdi.net Crowd sourced data at its best! It certainly is a concern...not a whole lot that I can do although I have tried to make the form as free/open as possible so people aren’t forced to put in photos/prices/who they are.
  8. Hi Matt, Gravity Forms just seemed to work in every way I wanted to, the (little bit) of ad money I get from myworldofit.net has paied for it anyways The key thing I was after was the ablity to take a form and turn it right into a post with very little effort. James
  9. Update - the logic in the forms does If you select custom build it will ask for the case on the specs form. Nice thinking @SYNACK
  10. After a little digging we found out its a Chenbro case - will have to see if the logic in the forms will let me do that
  11. Slowely getting there with the site, have a work in progress up and on the web - showcase your server Still lots more features to add though
  12. Interesting situation then! I'd still be concerned about key loggers/ect though which don't 'break your PC' in any obvious way.
  13. Its not that you should call it but that’s just what we do (to keep everything uniform). Our NETBIOS name is just DOMAIN (shorter to type when domain joining things and it looks funny when you get 'The domain domain is not available'). At our most recently kitted out Primary School we went for their NETBIOS to be their school name though.
  14. Is that only 7 PCs (which are your VDIs) in the entire firm?
  15. Ahh yeah at 7 it would probably be cheaper on SAS anyways
  16. Only thing is you have to know something is up with the PC to destroy it - so you could have a virus on a VDI for up to a day (if you have nightly refresh setup) during which it could be silently collecting info about every login to the PC. Its paranoia based security but hey why not Have you seen my posts about using PCI-E SSDs? With the IO you can get out of them it makes the whole ‘well AV on VDI chews through my disk IO’ argument almost pointless.
  17. We've got our schools website domain name as our FQDN and wouldn't have it any other way. It helps to create a new uniformed look (schoolname.county.sch.uk) and although you may not be part of a LEA you are still in a county somewhere. We take it one step further for our internal websites by having staffhome.internal.schoolname.county.sch.uk (or whatever other internal site it maybe).
  18. We've got Sophos on our VDIs, it updates automatically in the background (live protection) but I've only got it to do scanning on files that are being written. Its largely fire and forget though as if you ever have a problem with a VDI desktop you just obliterate it and your VDI setup will create a new one.
  19. Got to remember this was for the Devs so they could start working out new things for the software Phone will come
  20. Lync is worth its weight in gold IMO - just the ability to call people from a software client without having to hunt for extension numbers has been a key selling point for most of our staff. Don't think the site team appreciate me setting it up so it forwards calls right onto their mobiles though
  21. I always run this guy on our VDIs - AutoIt Tools: VDI Optimizer - AutoItScript No clue if it makes a real difference but I like to think so
  22. Looks like my other half will be getting my WP7 in October then Was an early adopter so don't feel too left out and tbh most of the features in WP8 don't look like they would run on current WP7 devices reguardless. If the mash up with Windows 8/RT/SkyDrive/ect works as well as M$ hopes it could be the beginning of something pretty darn cool!
  23. I get emails on my Windows Phone as well
  24. Emails/Phone - we have Lync 2010 as our phone system and have set it up so that any calls to our DDI get sent onto our mobiles as well.
  25. It works perfectly fine on 2k8 R2 If you install it on a seprate machine and just copy the contents of the install folder you can even run it from a network drive do you don't install anything you don't want to on your server.
