  1. My home PC uses a Seagate 2TB HDD SSD hybrid drive - seems to speed along quite nicely and it means no pain of having to work between two different drives (e.g. moving your steam library or mucking around with sym links). All work PCs running 120GB SSD - no point in going any more here as our default image is very small as applications are served through App-V.
  2. Never had this problem with any of my AMD GPUS I'd just return the card.
  3. Yep running Veeam here but never seen a backup do anything like that.
  4. Same - thought for a moment it was them branching off into something new!
  5. Called up and resolved in seconds Cheers Impero dudes!
  6. Ahh now here is the interesting thing - under Licence on the Impero server it says our latest Server version allowed is 4.0.13 (same for the client) although our contract expires on 23/07/14 - time for a call me thinks!
  7. Good morning all, In the grand scheme of things were new to Impero and today I've been having a few teachers come to me with their issued iPads saying that the app has updated and will no longer allow them to connect to the server (confirmed this myself on our testing iPad as well). Now the grand questions are- 1. If I update the server will the client on the PCs die (being an older version than the server although bearing in mind I'll update it over the next day or so)? 2. Is there a RSS feed/email alert/some other uberness that can tell me when a newer version is out there? Cheers! James
  8. Lookup WebDAV - widely supported on pretty much everything including iOS to get to shares on servers.
  9. Got a laser cutter in School? If so and you get ones with a fabric outer you could laser your logo or something into them
  10. Just revisiting this post - had what I would call a 'slow down' today on the server that I migrated all of my data from (which was having this problem origoinaly). I noticed that requests to the server for files were taking much longer than usual, a quick reboot soon sorted it out. So simlar but not the same.... Anyone had any new thoughts?
  11. No surprises here! Remoted in the night before to check network monitoring, all was gooooooood Time to get the new WebDAV service finished today ready for Mondays grand launch.
  12. With RSS support it should be pretty easy to build something in from the school website - a 'play around project' once the first week or so of term is out of the way.
  13. For Christmas I got one of these - ICMJ210.BK Reasonable bit of kit but no clue where to get the filters! So any clues out there in the Edugeek world?
  14. Something like this has been needed for a while - can think of a use or 2 to build something for a reception 'kiosk'.
  15. Are you using it with Server 2008 R2 or Server 2012? If its 2012 then all you need is a single public IPv4 address port forwarding 443 to your DA server Server 2008 R2 is......well not worth it
  16. Setup replication - let it tick over (it will take quite some time and don't feel tempted to restart either target or source server until its done) and then add to namespace. Everything is seamless from there on in For staging area when doing the initial sync set it quite high (up to a few 100GB has worked well for me in the past) and then gradually reduce over time once its back into action (mine usually sits at 30GB).
  17. Only cost £318.80 at our current repro department printing costs!
  18. Only if you use DFS Namespaces with Previous Versions/End User recovery for Windows 7 clients (nothing needed at the server end).
  19. That's the one, although if you use DFS Namespace you need a hot fix on Windows 7 clients to allow them to use Previous Versions. All the same there are some very cool features out there.
  20. SCCM has so much in it that you will be learning new things about it for years to come (I still am having used it since the 2007 version). DPM + Hyper-V again is great! So much better than VEEAM + VMWare (IMO) make sure you look at the end user recovery features which takes the load off your file storage servers for doing 'previous versions'.
  21. Bearing in mind that every laptop I get now has a TPM chip inside I couldn't fault BitLocker, the SCCM Task Sequence for operating system deployment turns it on automatically and all the keys are backed up to AD. Totally seamless to the user as well. Both VPN and DA can reside on the same server and use the same SSL cert + public IP so its just the extra setup
  22. Sounds like you are pretty well setup already, you would need another SSL cert (or a SAN/Wildcard one that covers HAP+) and another IP address (again unless you use a SAN/Wildcard) but otherwise all is ok. Well worth looking at DA (only need to setup a server with Public Key Infrastructure (which isn't as scary as it sounds)) as well - there are some very good guides out there for setting it up to work with Windows 7.
  23. TechNet is the place to begin but as an overview- 1. Obtain valid SSL certificate (I get mine through GoDaddy) + get a external DNS entry setup (e.g. vpn...sch.uk) that points at one of your public facing IPs 2. Setup new Virtual Machine dedicated to VPN/DirectAccess 3. Port forward one of your public IP address (easier said than done if you are using a LEA connection) to the IP address of the network adapter on the server 4. Enable the Routing and Remote Access role on your server 5. Import the SSL certificate to the server 6. Follow through the steps on the 'setup remote access wizard' 7. Setup the software client on your users PCs and show them how awesome it is. Took me a good half day to work it out the first time but I've setup so many now that its a 10 minute job - the energy expended making it work will be well worth it!
  24. If you issue Windows laptops (Win7+) you can use the Routing and Remote Access features in Server 2012 to provide a SSTP VPN for your staff, they just connect and its like they never like they left the school! Just need a public IP to port forward against and a few minutes on the setup. Server 2012 also makes it possible to use Direct Access (which is like a seamless VPN that connects whenever it detects you are away from the school network) its needs a little bit more work to make it work on Windows 7 but its very easy to get going on Windows 8. Video demo (featuring me! ) - Server 2012 Direct Access - Overview and from the users view - YouTube
  25. Running Windows 7 and Windows 8 (not yet 8.1) here.
