ahhh it was searching the directory. Changed to the server and it found it! thanks! Im gonna try and and start again from scratch with a W10 Mandatory profile. I have tried so many ways in the past i am confused now with what works with which method and what doesn't etc Does anybody have a known working method for building a Mandatory profile on W10 v1709 that they could share before i tear my hair out again!?
-
Did you have to create the 'ALL Application Packages' group? I don't seem to be able to find that group!? Cheers
-

Web Filtering, what to go for?
paulhowes replied to manick's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Currently manage these devices using Apple Configurator 2, looking into an MDM but as always comes down to cost!! From what i read there may be better options out there than Lightspeed's Mobile Manager, and as such didn't want to be tied into only being able to use this if we did get funding. Also though i wondered if browsing history on iPads (browsed websites) can still be achieved without the MDM if the school continue to manually mange iPads using Apple Configurator 2 thanks -
Web Filtering, what to go for?
paulhowes replied to manick's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I have been asked to investigate Lightspeed to see if it offers a better web filtering system and monitoring/reporting than what the school currently have. Brief background: The school currently have their Internet connectivity through Link2ICT via a Virgin Media 100MB line. They are just coming to the end of year 1 in a 3 year contract so changing provider is not an option at this point in time. Firewall & Web Filtering is provided via Link2ICT & monitoring/reporting is via separate software called Policy Central. One of the main problems with the monitoring software is that it doesn’t work with mobile devices (iPads in our case) unless you are using the Policy Central browser. From what i have seen of the functionality of this browser we won’t be using it, especially given the cost per device! I have been researching and trying to find an answer to the following question (but so far been unable to) Can the Lightspeed system perform web filtering & monitoring for mobile iPads without having these devices enrolled in the Lightspeed MDM? Basically can it work independently from Lightspeed MDM or do we need both web filtering & Mobile Manager MDM?? I ask this as we don’t really want to be tied to the MDM side of things as we may be looking at other options Or if if anybody else could recommend how they are monitoring content on iPads without using a 3rd party browser app we would be more than grateful!! cheers Paul -

[android] Android tablets for schools, how does the Market work?
paulhowes replied to nLinked's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I know this thread is a bit old BUT a school i support has just purchased a number of these learnpad devices and are banging their head against a brick wall with Link2ICT! Need to open port 5228 (and 5229, 5230 from what i have read elsewhere) BUT LInk2ICT say they cant unless they have the Google IPs!?! However are these dynamic OR fixed IPs? Any help would be greatly appreciated as the i feel this is required for these devices to work correctly for the school? Cheers! -
Connecting iPads to whiteboards
paulhowes replied to speckytecky's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I looked at this today at a school i was at. Latest version installed with DirectX bonjour installed. Win7 client users with roaming profiles. Installed as my roaming admin user to one class...named, set pw etc and worked fine. Then proceeded to install to other classes. Found though after a while that the name of the airserver on the PC changes each time i installed to name of last room i did?!?! When logged back into pc i first installed on name switched again!!! There is something not right with this i am guessing.....data not stored in the HKLM key...rather the HKCU key which is a bit pants!! anybody had issues with this with roaming profiles? and have a fix? cheers!! -
I want to use an unattend.xml file for win 7 64bit image before uploading my master image to WDS. I have looked into this and see that can be created using various techniques such as WAIK, MDS etc. All these methods seem over complicated for what used to be such a simple task in XP?!? All i want is a simple unattend.xml that will: Let me input activation key stop and prompt for a computer name (i have read about MySysprep but not sure if this works with WDS?) stop and prompt for a local user account join a domain (possibly) so my question is: Can i just copy an x64 unattend.xml file, edit the sections i want, and save it in the sysprep folder (or attach to image in WDS) before executing sysprep (or MySysprep) Has anybody got an example of this i can work with. All the ones i have seen on here seem to be x86? Many thanks Paul

Had major probs to. Have tried this workaround and so far the TotalLock exe runs every time!! Progress at last! Thanks

I met 2 guys from this company yesterday at one of the schools i support in Brum. They trying to sell a photocopier contract worth approx 8k per year over a 3 yr period. However the main point of their visit is this: They also offering to supply free of charge?!?!: 30+ netbooks\laptops, 2 trolleys, 4x Full Promethean Systems (inc board\proj) and make a payment of approx £1500 to the school each quarter over 3yrs. For this they want the school to become a referral site for their company....a good source of advertisement in the Bham area they say!! (they reckon they trying to get a name for themselves in Bham). Anyone else come across these guys??....Me personally i dont buy it....nothing for free in this life and all. I haven't seen any terms and conditions etc (not for me to decide if its a scam) so cant comment on that BUT would be very interested in hearing if anybody had any similar experiences\dealings with this lot and their take on it?! Cheers Paul

Just found this thread and sounds like exactly the sort of thing that i am after!! Have got Xibo up and running on an XP PC using XAMPP and running everything locally for now. What i also wanted to do was to have a folder somewhere that the Head can just dump pics into which will then update on the display using Xibo. The idea of a webpage linked to this directory sounded perfect but just a little unsure on how to go about it??? If anybody could help that would be great?!?...or better ideas perhaps as this was 4 months ago so maybe it has been fine tuned? Cheers

You can get some free flash clocks from here Put it in the same property box as your school logo and set the desired display times. Haven't managed to get ours rotating as such....just changing! Paul
-
Cool...looks nice! How come u use the flash plugin and not just the powerpoint?.....does flash work better on Xibo? Also like the idea of the rotating java clock with logo. How did u go about that? Cheers
-
Cheers will take a look when next on site!

How are u running Xibo now? Do u add loads of images one by one? Started doing this but thought has to be an easier way?!? So far all i could think of was to use the PhotoAlbumn feature in PowerPoint, add a picture to each slide then save as a ppt. Then run the ppt in Xibo Is there a better way anyone can think of? Also i am not very creative when it comes to design layout. Anybody care to share some screen shots of a typical layout for a school? Cheers Paul

and just wanted to add, these problems seemed to occur around the same time Policy Central was installed.........or is that just me thinking this?!?!?

OK I have worked in a number of schools in Birmingham for the past few years. For about a year now I have noticed a major deterioration in the efficiency of using IE for browsing. Is very weird and very inconsistent. Particular problems occur when trying to access MyMail (BGFL+) and local ePortal services. Browser seems to hang and crash very regularly!! I am glad (if that is the right choice of words?) to have found i am not the only one who is having these problems. I work in 5 different schools, 2 of which seem to have little or no problems compared to the other 3. It has to be down to the way schools are routed through the BGFL is all i can think? IE 7 & 8 are both affected. I have tried FF and early signs seem encouraging I am now in the process of looking to deploy FF as an alternative browser to schools but in the past was put off a little due to many of the points listed in this excellent thread. I just want to extend my thanks to all who have contributed (especially Michael & Arthur) and will report back here in a couple of weeks to provide my feedback\updates. Many Thanks Paul
