I’ve just watched a sneak compilation preview on the bbc website of some of the new doctors coming episodes, and they really look good. My only criticism and I doubt I won’t be the only one. The tweed jacket and bow tie really don’t work and I hope that’s not going to be his regular attire.

I like BBCiPlayer Desktop The last time i used 4OD i had to keep inputting a password everytime i played a different show or episode.

Users of Assimilate within Netlinc?
spacevortex replied to pete's topic in East Midlands Broadband Consortium (EMBC)
we used it for a project a while back but dropped its usage, we are sitting pretty to see what LSN have for us in the next few months. I have signed 2 of our primary schools up to edu 2.0: the free, easy way to teach and learn online its free and works very nicely, its only being tested and not deployed to students just yet..... -
I thought this was suppose to be structured so it gave schools more flexbility in choosing a provider, but this seems to have gone to the extreme. I know these are subject to change but this is confusing for an ISP only school. Alright some of the changes I welcome, but some create more problems than its worth and I can't see how they would work in some schools. I'm hoping these are guidlines for schools using the Broker services to keep them more unified. A school like ours would want more control over how it operates otherwise we might as well leave the LSN. Time to ring Jez or Alan me thinks!!

Continued Profesional Development
spacevortex replied to itguy22's topic in Learning Network Manager
Getting a well known Certified qualification, will that be acceptable by your employer. (you dont say if you work for a school or a comapny that works in schools) Not every school will send you on some type of Microsoft course, to see you use this to seek another job. I would look for something that would give you an advantage in your current role or benefit the school, and still have something you can take with you when you leave, if you leave. what does the school not have and would be nice to have: Apple Macs, what do you send away for repair that you might be able to do yourself and get a certification for it and still benefit the school like a Printer Repair Course CERTIFIED, You could already do cabling but a Fibre Installation course... i could go on... -
A very Tricky one, i had one of our school translators last year look at one of my web sites, she burst out laughing. Google translator makes a mess of it. Systran is suppos to be good, our local authority did or still do use it on their website. SYSTRAN - Online translation, translation software and tools They do have a translator to try on site....... ARABIC It might be a long shot but look at Rosettastone they do loads of languages for learning, you might find someway of being able to use one of the language modules to your advantage...... But it seems you cant beat employing someone or at least hiring. we have several employed translators/ one2one teachers. Next time you hire a TA at the school make sue you get someone who can speak the language you require.

From the IT Technical side VLE has never really come our way asking for recommendations and implementations. This is in the hands of our systems manager who will deal with purchasing the system We did have a coordinator for all of this but times are hard and he has now returned back to the classroom as a Teacher. He did manage to setup Moodle and does keep it ticking over though i don't think he has the time. The feedback from staff was its confusing, and not everyone is like IT teachers and technical staff, and if it does not have pretty pictures and simple non cluttered 18 size fonts then the battle is already lost. We are searching for a new VLE but our local LEA has told us to sit tight for a few months. We also have access to http://www.ramesys.co.uk/docs/Assimilate%20brochure.pdf which is Free as part of our LEA though its classed as a VLP I have just registed for this and currently looking at its possiblities, and might be ideal for our primary schools in our federation. FREE edu 2.0: the free, easy way to teach and learn online I was talking to somone a few days ago and they suggested using joomla as a VLE, i had used this for websites and love it to bits the amount of templates and modules is great but still not convinced its idea but in searching for other schools using Joomla i stumbled on this. Joomla! Schools - Websites for Schools and sending you around in circles this post http://www.edugeek.net/forums/edugeek-joomla-1-5-package/20099-joomla-vles.html

for Teachers at our secondary school/college it works better the bell only sounds at start of school and for the start of the lesson after dinner. we used to have a mad rush out of the classrooms. computers left logged on. now the students aren't sure when the lesson ends exactly so it gives the teacher time to get students to log off computers, and let them leave the classroom in a nice fashion. its certainly works...... as for tea breaks for the techies, we some times stop and sometimes work, but we go in shifts mostly. so its never a set time. Its important we start our day on time and support is available during lunch and breaks, we could finish on time but we dont because we all enjoy our job its like a hobby when were doing what we want to do. we dont ever think "i've worked extra, damn" if we do an hour extra we have that as time off, unless its a project where sometimes we get paid. Time is never an issue for us in IT as the movements of students tells us what time it is, certain staff visiting the IT department, computer clocks, mobile phones and watches, plus every classroom and room has a radio wireless clock, so we are never far away from finding out the time. Even the phone in the office has the time on it.

This thread is a little old but i thought i would add this seeing it did not popup in a search on edugeek Tonic -FREE lan message communication r2 Studios - Software It's not had an update in a long time and works under vista. i have not added it to any staff laptops for over a year but at that time staff were still using it.... and i gather they still do. i only deployed it to the primary section of our federation. it has some good config options and allows you to send files to collegues it does what was and still required, though network improvements and phones in every classroom could of made it less of a required tool. enough of me promoting

When you were in 6th form your parents would of received a letter telling them about how the finger prints are stored. Its not the same system as a national finger print database. it works on a principal of numbers assigned to a picture (the finger print is a picture like your school photo) over looked another members post.. sorry.....

I got our head the HTC touch hd and this syncs with exchange 2007 i use the roadsync which came with my samsung 8510i the only thing i had problems was with the certificate which i had to install manually by downloading on my pc and uploading to my samsung. but when i was researching people told me to forget about anything that was not a windows mobile otherwise i could always hit a snag.

It was what the head suggested but the ticket log is now on 2 pages so i think i agree but 48 hours sounds great but possibly too short for staff who only work a few days a week, so i may increase this to 7days, after an IT technician replies to the post as being completed. spiceworks looks alright but not really gone into it i use it more for the monitoring.

The school used Pel Desk for several years but stopped using it about 3 or 4 years ago (paid Version) and just did jobs by email, phone calls and on the fly with no order. Try PerlDesk Demonstration - Help Desk Software Solutions Back in feb i looked at Trellis and since May have been using it...... i like it a lot its being used, and the ules from the head are we can not close tickets they must be done by staff....... staff are very keen to post but not so keen to login and close the tickets once the work is complete.... I use Bulk users by wisesoft and it works on 2008 http://www.wisesoft.co.uk/software/bulkadusers/default.aspx I have just started introducing teachers to the passwword manager which is great as they can at least reset passwords and in the primary part of the federation we have flouser manager but this has cost and been a waste of money for one school as it does not work with 2008. Flo Computer Services - Flo User Manager 3 I will be possibly chaning them all to wisesoft shortly.....
