  1. and what happens if someone breaks/steals the camera itself? you've no idea who, cos they've stolen the evidence... may sound stupid, but i've known it to happen.
  2. aha, i was beaten to it! i too have removed KB975560 and this has resolved the problem. found this idea when reading another thread on here relating to a CC4 network. now to script it's removal across the site....
  3. probably a long shot, but i don't suppose you made this work in the end? i'm getting the same error but with version 2 of the software. don't really want to install the codec pack for the same reasons stated earlier! TIA
  4. cheers, much appreciated i think that's a different one, possibly Tux Typing?
  5. has anybody managed to successfully deploy this across a network? their network instructions are "install it on the client" but with us having at least 120 computers to install it to, i'd like to automate it obviously! i've managed to get an MSI from the EXE file, but it asks for the location of the network data store. has anybody managed to script this? Thanks
  6. 15-17k for a senior tech? how many other in the team? think that might be asking a bit too much....
  7. i have a requirement for a SIMs-esque (but greatly simplified) database system! let me know if you feel like building it, would save me much time and anger, my coding is not exactly top notch! was thinking of doing it as SQL/PHP so that it can be web accessible too.
  8. insurance states that commuting is to "1 single place of work" therefore even if he was to commute to a different place of work 1 day a week, surely this would be business? and it's also time which that school is paying for as part of a contract, therefore he is being hired out as part of a business agreement, meaning that he would have a hard job arguing it. travel expenses are designed to cover the costs of business insurance, and it doesn't cost a lot. I took business insurance at 18, it cost me £10-£15. worth it for saving the hassle.
  9. this was the reason i accepted it as a "reasonable request" and didn't push for a change in wage. we are now looking at taking on yet more schools, and therefore a technician to cover all visits. meaning i'm not doing any. and it's no longer part of my job role, so is no longer a positive thing or able to be added to the CV. EDIT in summary, push for the extra if you can manage it. i wasn't responsible for all aspects of it, decision making was done above me, so i can see the point that it is a reasonable request. still would have been nice though, even if it was a token amount extra in the wage slip.....
  10. unfortunately not. if i delete them and refresh, they're back! yes i can get into them, but there is nothing in them (don't know if there was before or not though)
  11. probably not the answer, it does serve a useful purpose... yeh i've tried forcing a sync but with no joy. guess i will have to drop the offline cache to make it go away. wasn't sure if there was some weird bug or anything like that. the user has since told me they think they were offline when they tried to delete the folders originally, i don't know if this holds any bearing on it.
  12. i've got a user's laptop in which is not syncing their files quite right. they login to a desktop and all is fine, login to the laptop though and there are 2 folders which have supposedly been deleted, but are still there! they are stating as offline only (the laptop is online though via wifi) i have tried going into the offline files view and deleting them there, it says it completes yet they still appear. i know you can reinitialise the offline cache, but i'd like to know what's causing the problem rather than just fetching the sledgehammer..... any help greatly appreciated!
  13. uhh not entirely sure come to think of it. there's been a release in the last few years of version 1.3, which may have been updated. they say that there will be a release to work with Vista and then Win7 shortly, but we shall see i suppose! just wish someone could make a bit of software to do the same which actually works.....
  14. Hi guys, i've had a bit of a look on here already and a number of people have already asked the question, but there doesn't seem to have been many answers as of yet.... anyway. we've just installed Win7 across our network and have come to install Successmaker. it's having a few issues, and i've spoken to their tech support who say it categorically does not work, however they will be releasing an update in the near future. has anybody out there managed to get this to work, or if not, do you know of any good alternatives to it?? Cheers,
  15. Logitech Harmony 515 Universal Remote - Electronics at Play.com (UK) only replaces 5 remotes, opposed to the 15 that mine did, but within your budget and still has all the functions you would need and many more. it is effectively the same as the one i've got, just the only difference is the number of remotes you can program to it.
  16. i haven't had a chance to test as of yet, as we are running a version earlier than the Vista one and our order for the new version hasn't gone through yet. i believe the guy said that it was release build 5 that was the one required. the problem you are describing is what we are getting at the moment, however our issue is with an old version. it may be worth you checking whether or not yours is on release build 5, and whether you are runnning it over the COM port or the USB port. i'll let you know the outcome once we get the new version of the software through, fingers crossed!
  17. for anybody interested: i just had the official word back from boxford. if you are running them over a COM port, the vista version works fine. the reason they haven't released it officially with Win7 compatibility is because the USB driver isn't working properly. fortunately though, ours are pre-USB!
  18. have a google around. there is one of the harmony remotes, can't remember which model but it is the same as mine in silver and it was going for around £45 which is a very good price. i can tell you, these remotes are the absolute Don. i don't know what i'd do without mine now!! however, a word of warning - test test test. i found a few little niggles with mine when i first set it up such as it not switching inputs properly, or it increasing the volume 2 or 3 clicks at a time rather than one. all of this was fixable with a little tweaking of the software (all PC based and very simple to run through) and it now works absolutely perfectly. i also had a problem that logitech released an update for my TV controls on the remote, which then effectively rendered one of my inputs useless as i couldn't select it properly. i spoke with their technical support and they looked at the code and rewrote it as they realised there was a mistake. very very good tech support, cannot fault logitech for that!
  19. ahh darn it, that was kind of what I expected you to say! they definitely do need to sort it out, its been over a year since the release of Win7 and people were jumping to run it then.
  20. Hi guys, We are moving to windows 7 at the moment, and are trying to get boxford cad cam working on it so that we can use our milling machines. Now, it turns out that this is pretty impossible! We have spoken with boxford and they say that there is no way to do it, they are working on it but it will be a few months. It crashes at the point when you load an already created file into it, stating a problem with a module in a dll file. Has anybody been able to get this software working successfully on windows 7?? If so, how?! Many Thanks, Tom
  21. unfortunately i am going to be unable to test whether i can get this to work, as the member of staff is no longer urgent for the files back and it would create a lot more work to do this!
  22. ok well i will have a crack at that then. i should have all the required rights as i am a domain admin!! i will see if it can just "work it out", as this would save a lot of hassle
  23. ah ok brilliant only other concern i have there, is that when running the CSCcmd /enable command, i'm told that i don't have sufficient rights!! i think it would be safe to assume that a teacher account definitely won't have the permissions! i guess that i can't just do a straight copy & paste of the CSC folder, as there will be some SYS files in there which relate to Windows files yes? will have to see what i can come up with....
  24. ok thats brilliant. i've got a replacement hard drive in it and am just waiting for it to finish installing the OS on there now. only one point, as these offlines files are owned by a domain user, how will this work in recovering them? will they still keep all ownerships i assume? thanks for the help!
  25. hi i just had a read through the instructions, and as far as i can see then this applies more to an offline cache that may have stopped working, but i cannot actually get access to the hard drive properly, only by plugging it in to an external caddy
