We've been having a bit of a problem with slow logins etc (2003 & XP clients) . Looking at the DNS this moring I noticed that in Forward Lookup Zone .local tcp there were several _ldap SRV records for client PCs rather than the servers. I guess this is wrong - so I have got rid of them - can anyone suggest how they got there and confirm that I was right to delete them? Cheers

Far as I know - this is a problem with drives that do not have "certified" MS drivers, and we can't find a work round apart from using kit that is certified - like Kingston.

If you'er looking for a quick fix for one admin user - I'd go for Logmein or similar - doesn't take much effort and doesn't need any fannying about on your servers or RBC ports.

Yes - probably the 2 TS licensing thing - go to the actual server (or use GenControl remotely) - logon on - go to Admistrative Tools/Terminal Services Manager and you can see the active connections - if there are 2 there that shouldn't be there - right hand click and disconnect them.

Our SAN appears as ordinary drive letters on each Blade Server - we just use normal backup procedures (Backup Exec) to back up.

I used to share an office with a lad who was addicted to Kinders - and got me hooked as well - we used to get trays of 2 dozen each lunchtime and make up the toys and give the (frankly rather nasty) chocolate away. By the time I left the job we had several large carrier bags of lpastic toys to take away. While I might agree with this in practical terms - I'd have to say that as a long term strategy, I'm more aligned with the BCS's plan of trying to make ICT a profession, rather than a trade. Until you get to a situation where every IT project has to have a qualified IT professional on board (rather like engineering projects do), then there will pretty much zero respect (or reward) for our technical abilities. I'm probably too old to benefit from this myself - but I'd certainly maintain that we should work towards it.

Blimey - you went to finishing school - was it in Switzerland? Seriously - those of us of a "mature" age usually just drifted into IT from other things (I have a degree in Industrial Engineering), when there was a shortage of staff in the 80s. I tell kids to train up to be accountants - its a lot more use to them than IT. :?

You too Broc? I was about to write something similar from my days in "pre-sales" support in the "Dark Side". Nothing got a bigger grin from the salesman sliding into his gigantic BMW than a client that didn't know their @rse from their elbow - everything was an "extra" on those accounts - even our hotel bills - which must've come as a shock when we used to try out the best brandy at £70 a glass...

A good tip that I picked up from someone else here - was on some HP lasers - you can go into diagnostic mode and switch off cartridge checking - we get loads more out of our 4600s after that!

Funny - I've been having a lot of trouble with it here (EMBC connection) over the last few days - though its fine at home - I'm starting to suspect EMBC have cocked it up again...
