Hi all, Does anyone know where I can get empty Dell drive caddies for 3.5" bays? I need some 2.5" adapter caddies too. I've searched the Dell site but can't come up with anything... hopefully you guys can help! This is for a Dell R530. Cheers

You need to have your Apple reseller add them onto DEP first.

What do you want to monitor? Without the Classroom app you're only going to be able to monitor web usage through captive portals as mentioned above. iPads were never designed to be shared devices unfortunately.

I did it easily and cleanly with a Sophos UTM box. Might be worth you downloading the trial version and giving it a try in a VM? When I replaced our Forefront TMG server Sophos UTM was the only thing I found that mirrored all the functionality of it, and did it well

Don't get me wrong, they seem like a great company and great bunch of people, but when I've got people moaning at me for something out of my control they can deal with the heat too! I still want to get our SIP lines through SB, but they're making it very difficult!

If you have customers using Fortigate without Lightspeed, do they still go through your rockets or can you route around them? @SchoolsBroadband Also, I've been trying to get a test SIP line for weeks now, with no reply I'm having to take our business elsewhere now which is unfortunate because I liked SB and wanted SIP over the same connection!

We had loads of problems but since they reconfigured Filter11 with (I believe) 3 different filters last week ours has been fine. I had an e-mail from their complaints department a couple of days ago saying they wanted to schedule a call with us about it. It certainly started to make me look bad to our SLT since I was the one that wanted to move us away from our LA to TalkStraight back in April!

This is just my personal opinion but... - Meraki ended up being a big fat no since hardware becomes a brick once you stop licensing them (urgh cloud managed stuff sucks) - Smoothwall were way too pricey for us - Sophos UTM is what we were using and I loved it. Our SG115 was a brilliant bit of kit and the software was fantastic. Filtering was top notch and staff never complained. - We moved to the Lightspeed/Fortinet combo courtesy of our ISP, it's been relatively good, filtering is great, ability to filter mobile devices off network is really useful, but the UI isn't as polished. Overall for me, it's always a toss up between Sophos UTM and Lightspeed at this point.

I'd get something "proper" too. I used Ubiquiti's UniFi Outdoor AC AP with great success, especially with their sector antennas for wide open areas. Not badly priced either!

Aside from the software, it kinda gets me that open source projects like this always seem to go after corporate names... how about come up with something original instead of blatantly ripping off someone's trademark? /rant

You'd be better off getting some outdoor rated Cat5e, or as someone else said, use some Ubiquiti Nanobeams (personally I'd go for the cable, you can use your existing cable as a pull wire). You're not giving this the best shot at working, yes Cat5e can work just fine slightly over 100m, but you've got extra joins in there, with old cable, with 2 pairs. Not exactly the most forgiving situation.

I'm not 100% sure on the answer, but it's a bit of a moot point nowadays unless you're doing SSL inspection.

Been very happy with Lightspeed recently, courtesy of our new northern ISP! We did use the Web Filtering on our Sophos UTM before we switched ISP (which we were happy with and would still recommend), but I liked the idea of having a "cloud" based appliance that was bundled with our connection.

I think your first port of call on call quality issues would be to use your phone systems logging/reporting functionality to monitor latency, jitter, and packet loss (not sure how to do this on Alcatel, on Avaya and Cisco there are menu options on the phones themselves to monitor it). Unmanaged switches aren't ideal for VoIP but I'm not convinced this would solve your issues if there isn't much traffic passing over them.

How do you mean differentiate between staff and students with BitLocker? We use MDOP MBAM to manage BitLocker & BitLockerToGo across our Windows estate and apply different GPOs to students vs staff. I believe MBAM is included in your Windows licensing if you have volume licensing as of Windows 10.

In this case your encryption is only as strong as your Windows password IMO. Yes your laptop is 100% fully encrypted and if the drive is put in another machine it won't be readable, but if the Windows password is 1234 that doesn't stop someone from simply guessing it. We deploy BitLocker in our school with forced PINs. This way users must enter their 8 digit PIN code before Windows will boot past BitLocker. I can't answer any of your Sophos related questions, but MDOP MBAM is now included as part of the Windows licensing on Windows 10 and above. Maybe this makes it more affordable for you?

IMO each staff user should have their own Desktop folder, and each pupil will use a standard one like you seem to have now. Then you should be creating the shortcut for this particular application in the Public Desktop so it appears to all users on machines where the application is installed.
