I am trying to uninstall Realplayer to install Realplayer Enterprise. However, Realplayer keeps saying Uninstaller Component Missing when I try to uninstall it. I have tried it through both Windows XP Professional Add/Remove programs and the Realplayer uninstaller shortcut. Nothing works. Does anyone know any tricks? If I try to install Realplayer Enterprise without uninstalling RealPlayer, it will crash everytime it is run.

There is sysprep in Vista Business (version 3. something). It seems to work pretty well.

We used to lend staff the domain admin account...big mistake. We quickly stopped after someone installed Limewire filesharing on about five computers, and downloaded a virus onto their network drive (requiring the server operating system to be reinstalled). Now, no staff gets any type of admin access, except for local power user if needed for special program. But even then, there are so many restrictions enabled through group policy they cannot really do much damage.

I have previously customized the default xp user profile that is downloaded to a computer anytime a new user logs onto our domain. Is there any way to make a separate one for Vista machines (which will be a separate OU)? Any ideas?

Our computer room just has a sign that says "Electrical--Authorized Staff Only." My manager's office has a basic sign, since no one ever bothered to order a real one. It simply says: OFFICE.

OK, I thought it might be a good idea to install Firefox and test my site in it, since several of you said the alignment is left, rather than centered, like it is supposed to be. I tried a few alignment tweaks and was able to get it to move over in Firefox, but then it also moves the already centered IE design to, making it too far to the right. Anyone have any ideas on this? I am fairly new to CSS, until recently I had never used CSS for any of my sites.

I tried taking out the height tag from #content, no luck I am posting screenshots from IE6 and IE7. Sorry they are different resolutions (the only computer I have IE7 installed on is a new Vista laptop we just got, and it is a lot different resolution from my desktop computer).

I am working on a new template for my school's website. It looks nice in IE6, but awful in IE7. I have tried a few things, but nothing has worked. The problem is that the center CSS main area (where all the main text is) does not auto change the height in IE7, like IE6 does. Part of the left hand navy column also does not auto change the height (in IE6, it goes all the way to the bottom of the page, like it needs to). If anyone has any ideas, I'd GREATLY appreciate it! I have never had a bad experience with Acer tech support. I have had to call three times (but out of 20 machines, not terrible). For me at least, the hold time is long (~30 minutes), but once I finally get a tech support person they are generally helpful. I recently had two power supplies and a hard drive go out. I told them exactly what the problems were and they did not question me. I had all of the parts the next day and a tech was there in two days to install the parts at no charge. (I had onsite support for these systems). At my school, we hardly buy anything except Acers now. We just cannot beat the price ($440 for nicely configured XP Professional desktop).

Almost all of the computers here, except admin computers, are still using CRTs (some running 800x600, others 1024x768). A majority of the TFTs are running 1024x768.

We require a form to be filled out for every single request, no exceptions. One employee thought he was too good for our form and wrote "computer not work," on a blank piece of paper and did not sign it or anything. We finally brought him a whole stack of blank forms for his future use

We are small--only 160 students total. Our slowest machines are: 2.6GHz, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD, CDRW/DVD reader, XP Pro, onboard sound and graphics, onboard 10/100 network Our newer machines are: 3.0GHz+, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, DVDRW, XP Pro, media card reader, onboard sound and graphics, onboard 10/100/1000 network Until about 2 months ago, we had a number of 400MHz computers. Luckily, they finally gave us money to upgrade these "modern" systems. Almost all of our systems run Deep Freeze, which has helped us a lot this year.

With Windows XP multiple monitors, is it possible to make an application always load on a specific monitor? Specifically, I am trying to make Internet Explorer open in full screen kiosk mode on the second monitor output. Is this possible?

Thanks for the help! I was able to fix the problem by forcing the Administrators group to have ownership of the folder, then adding full read/write access to Administrators group, then returning ownership to the user.

On my server, each user has their desktop redirected to a Desktop folder inside their home drive. When the system autocreated these folders, it also locked everyone except the user (even domain admin) from being able to read the folder. Is there any way to make it where I can access the folders? I have tried changing the permissions, but it has not worked. This would not be a problem, except that I am now unable to backup the files for Data Recovery dvds.

We have... *160 students *24 staff *1 windows server (about to add another linux server) *45 desktops *1 laptop *1 IT Manager (myself) *1 Facilities Manager (my supervisor, who does a little computer work when he has time) We are also responsible for the copy machine, laminator, tvs, cd players, sound systems, theater lighting system, website, keycard system, intrusion and fire alarm system (only basic maintenance, like cleaning and testing, luckily), the phone system, and CCTV.

We are having a similar problem over here in my school. Before last year, there was not really any type of AUP for the staff at all. They all complained when we implemented the policy. After awhile they just started ignoring it. One of the staff somehow discovered our domain admin password and started giving it to students to use if they forgot their passwords Talk about problems! Both students and staff installed so much junk on all the computers, we ended up having to reimage almost all of our pcs (which is only about 40, but still...) This year, we made the AUP much stricter. Our AUP is two pages long, plus an additional page for the agreement form. If anyone wants to see ours, let me know. Ours still needs work, but seems to be moving in the right direction. We told some of the teachers who had been sharing their password with students that our new "security system" had detected a security breach with their account, so they must choose a new password to use the computer. Now if we can only convince them to not write their passwords on post-it notes stuck to the computer screen.

Odd. It had no problems on my machine. Maybe your download got corrupted?

I'd choose the celeron. It is a little faster, although it is not quite as good of a processor. Two years newer could mean lots less problems down the road.

OK, I was able to VNC into the computer for a little while. The firewall was turned off. Remote desktop connections were enabled. Network login worked fine. The were only three profiles cached on the computer, they were all small, so I left them. I did the netstat -a command. It is listening on port 3389. I tried flushing the dns (we've had problems with that before), which did not help. Then I made the highly intelligent move of releasing the ip address on the remote vnc connection. :oops: I forgot I was doing it remotely. Needless to say, I won't be making that mistake again [hopefully]. Right now, I am planning on just doing a repair installation. Thanks for all the tips, I'll let everyone know if I find a solution.
