  1. OK. I found part of the problem. I had created an ACL that bypass authentication coming from the linux server. The Squid log now shows the domain username, but the DG log doesn't. Any ideas? (It's getting so close, it seems like)
  2. The auth paths are now enabled and correct. It still does not work though Any other ideas?
  3. OK. I have now reinstalled Dansguardian version 2.9.8.5 on my linux server. It does accept traffic. If I set IE to connect directly to SquidNT, it logs the username properly in Squid. If I set IE to connect to Dansguardian (which has the proxy ip set to SquidNT), then it logs just the site on SquidNT (also on the DG log, though), but no user name. Any ideas? I think I'm getting really close. Thanks!
  4. I use Netcontrol2. It works quite well, especially for the price. I had a few problems with it dropping connections at first, but reinstalling fixed those issues. I recommend the program.
  5. Anyone have any ideas?
  6. make clean and ./configure had the same errors I checked Yast and the Make package is installed. Any thoughts?
  7. OK, I got g++ installed. The make file was created, but when I run make, I get an error. The make program appears to be installed. See attached. Any ideas on how to correct this error?
  8. I am running Suse linux 10.2. I am trying to run ./configure on Dansguardian and am getting a compiler error. Is anyone familiar with this problem and how it can be fixed? See the attachment for exact error message. I'm thinking something else needs to be installed (maybe through Yast), but I'm not sure what. Thanks. compileerror.pdf
  9. Is there a group policy option to lockout the user from clicking Properties on the taskbar? I thought I have seen this option before, but cannot find it anywhere. I do use the GPMC and have locked out the control panel, but users can still modify the properties. Thanks.
  10. Try this: http://www.uwe-sieber.de/files/usbdlm.msi
  11. Yes, we have a similar problem. For some reason, most of our staff are afraid of any new technology. For this reason, they always complain to Administration whenever we merely discuss adding something new (like a projector). They frequently complain about systems being broken, when, in fact, the staff member complaining had moved it and broken connections. So yeah, generally, we are too the most hated department at my school. As a department, we are implementing required technology training next year to hopefully get the staff more used to using technology, and maybe, more interested in improvements. So far, after we discussed the idea with a few staff members, they liked the idea and actually left a compliment with administration, our first ever.
  12. OK. 2.9.8 is now installed. However, when I start it it says "Squid not running. Dansguardian requires Squid". Squid is running on the Windows 2003 machine. If I just start squid on the linux box (which is not being used), it then says Dansguardian start FAILED. Any ideas? I'm guessing a config problem.
  13. Dansguardian is version 2.8.0
  14. Update: I have now gotten Dansguardian to proxy sites using squid and block needed sites. However, it still does not get the username from Squid. If I try to connect to just the Squid proxy server, it does log the username. When I try to connect (using IE) to the Dansguardian filter, it does not log the username in the Dansguardian log. Does anyone have any tips on this issue? I'm getting so close...
  15. I have decided to take a different approach and try SquidNT on my windows 2003 DC (DC IP: 192.168.0.1, SquidNT port: 3128), thinking it might be easier to get setup the rest of the way. Good news! SquidNT proxies the sites and logs the username, automatically getting it from NTLM. However, all is still not working. I programmed Dansguardian (IP: 192.168.0.2, port 8181) to look at the Proxy IP for SquidNT. Dansguardian does successfully block the sites I tell it to, but Dansguardian does not get the username from Squid or display non-blocked sites. Any tips on this? Maybe it's something simple. I have IE set to connect to proxy at 192.168.0.2, port 8181.
  16. I have reinstalled Squid three times, hoping this might update the ntlm_auth files. I even deleted the ntlm_auth files once, then reinstalled. I still keep getting unknown option message for ntlm_auth -V Any tips?

    WDS or RIS

I am new to remote installation services, but fairly knowledgable on Windows Server 2003 and know all about group policy and active directory. Which service, WDS or RIS would be easier for a beginner to setup?
  18. I tried to reinstall Samba, hoping that might fix the problem. It did not. I also reinstalled Winbind, which did not help anything either. I am now using the 3.0.2-11 version of Samba. Winbind is the same version. What package should I upgrade to get NTLM to the same, newer version?
  19. I looked around Eopen some more, and didn't find anything, so I'm going to just order the media kit from my supplier. Thanks. I certainly don't want a Russian rootkit on every system!
  20. I am planning on making a new Windows XP Professional image and read that I can use volume license media, provided I own at least one volume license to reimage the OEM licenses. I just realized that we own one license of Vista Business through the volume license program (that has downgrade rights to XP Pro). However, there is not an option on EOpen that I see to download XP Pro corporate media, like there is for Vista Business. Is there any legal way to download it through the Microsoft system? I am going to order a real cd copy, but would like to have it sooner than the order could get processed at our office. I have a volume license key from Eopen for it. I just want to make sure I'm not missing the download link somewhere.
  21. Thanks. Samba is version 3.023d-6-1083-SUSE-SL10.2 NTLM_auth keeps saying unknown option when I try -V. Does this mean it needs to be reinstalled? Any tips on reinstalling it? It does not appear in Yast as an install option.
  22. How do I get the version number?
  23. I have found that it can be easily repackaged with Wininstall LE. I looked for silent install options and did not find anything. I was able to deploy the Wininstall created MSI through Group Policy.
  24. I figured it out If anyone else has this problem in the future, this is how I was able to correct it: 1) Download and install ORCA (it's free). 2) Open repackaged MSI in ORCA. 3) Right click tables section and add the Upgrade table (no data needs to be added though). 4) Save MSI file in ORCA. 5) Re-add files to software deployment in group policy. 6) Check the event log, but files should be deployed without errors.
  25. Please see attachments. Net ads appears to be ok, ntlm_auth had several errors. This is a problem, I'm guessing?? netads.pdf ntlm.pdf
