Thanks for all the help so far. The firewall should be turned completely off. I was able to install VNC and connect to the computer with that. In a few hours, when the employee will be done with the computer, I will VNC into it again and poke around the settings. I will check the netstat -a command, as ajbritton suggested. Mattx, this computer is part of a domain. I will see about cleaning up profiles and other random junk on the computer and see if it helps. I will post back later with an update. Thanks for the help!

I have forgotten that box on a few pcs, but this one is enabled. Good thought though.

The firewall has been disabled previously. I tried to connect with the IP address, but it said the same message. I was able to get the exact error message now: "The connection was ended because of a network error. Please try connecting to the remote computer again." I was able to successfully ping the computer.

I am able to run XP Professional Remote Desktop without any problems on over 30 PCs. However, one pc will not let me connect to it and says something about network problems preventing the connection. What is odd is that the computer can connect to the server and access the internet just fine. Does anyone know of any solutions? It would be great if I could fix it remotely, because I am not at the campus right now, but ideas that have to be done locally would still be great.

Welcome! The first possible cause of the problem that I can think of is conflicting IP addresses. Each network card should have it's own IP address that is unique to the server. Do you use static or dynamic address for your network? My network is all dynamic address, except for server IPs, which are static. At one point, we had two computers on one IP address and this caused campus-wide connection problems. What operating system does your server run?

Thanks for posting the link. That program is very helpful. The school administrators loved me printing off 210 pages of reports, but it will be a wonderful guide to have in case the server starts acting weird or gets a virus.

Offtopic, sorry. Friez, do you think there is any way you could share that script with me? My school is going to be installing a new computer lab this summer and this program would be SO useful for us.

Thanks for your help. I ended up just manually reinstalling it. It turns out it had been manually installed on only about 5 workstations, one of the student techs was trying to be "helpful."

I accidentally installed Office XP Media Content on all of our workstations a few months ago, when I created a new image for them. I just now realized and want to uninstall it (some of the computers need the small amount of extra hard drive space it uses). Is there a batch script (or is it possible to create one) that would automatically uninstall it, when the script is run over the network? I do not have much experience in creating batch scripts. Thanks for any help.

None of our XP machines have done that. I have had a problem with the Windows 2003 server not being able to be unlocked if a remote desktop session connection is not ended properly. This happens fairly often for us.
