Excluding the 600 we have issued as part of our normal 1:1 scheme, we have now issued out 320 devices to children to use at home.

Oh! Now that would be MUCH simpler. And less intrusive to users. Might try that out.

Otherwise seamless SSO didn't seem reliable at all.

OK, little confused tbh. We already have Office 365 and Google Workspaces set up, both with the same domains. Email addresses are specified in the mail field in Active Directory, aliases in the usual spot. Because we temporarily used Office 365 before switching to Office, everything is set up there as you'd expect. What should I disable? What should I remove? The domain is already registered in Office 365 - that's how they can log in to it. I also want them to continue to be able to log in to Office 365 with the same email/password combo (our entire idea is that they have one username/email/account that works everywhere).

The problem is that both Google Workspace and Office 365 use the same fields in Active Directory to handle what the user's email address is. So, to do your suggestion @chaplic, I'd need them to have a different email address in Office 365.

Yeah, the problem is that we have 4 sites using Unifi Video, so 3 NVRs and the UAS-XG. None of the sites are particularly big, so a Cloud Key Plus would handle each of them, but it means buying a bunch of kit.

We are a Google school - all of our emails are handled by Google Workspace, and staff use Gmail to view them. However, we occasionally have a need to use Microsoft Teams (for example, OFSTED require its use during their remote monitoring inspections). We do also have an Office 365 tenancy set up, but as Google handles the email, we don't use Exchange. This is where the problem arises. When staff use Teams, they aren't receiving invitations. The meetings are added to their Office 365 calendar, but they just don't get anything in their Gmail account. Is there a way of making Teams use actual email, instead of whatever it is doing in the background which ignores the way our MX records are set up?

I use that functionality but then I bought a UAS-XG. Though, that's no longer supported either, so today I migrated the controller over to a VM instead. Trying to figure it what to do with our 4 Unifi Video setups now. Looking like I'm gonna need to spend £800 on new kit if I want to use apps etc...

Is your SAGE system hosted internally on your own servers, or on a single server by your provider with an IP dedicated to you? If so, you could make use of the Google Google SMTP relay server. You can specify the public IP that can connect to it in your Google Workspace admin settings. Then you just stick the server details and from address in SAGE. It doesn't need authentication.

We put touchscreens everywhere these days. We've even put one in one of our smaller school halls (they don't have a stage, so it was an easy install). In our largest rooms we've put 75" screens in (Drama basically). In that hall we put in an 84" (though that was before we standardised on SMART, so it is a Promethean, but they don't use SMART Notebook in the hall).

How are your staff accounts populated in to Google Workspace? If you are synchronising them via GCDS or another tool, using your Active Directory as your source, then any changes you make in the admin panel will just get overwritten by the sync tool when it next runs. If there is no sync in place, and it is all done manually, it should update within 24 hours (that's their default amount of time it takes for everything). In my experience though, it happens straight away.

My requests have been sat for a week - EE, Vodafone, and O2. Only one has been processed, from Three. That happened in a couple of days.

Note, you don't have to connect every single door to the fire alarm. You only need to link up each building, and the main system. We have fire links at each school, one in each building, and one direct from the fire alarm at the main site. So, you should be able to reduce a little bit of cost off that £1000 per door. We paid about £800 a door IIRC, but that was a while ago now.

Yup. We have standardised on SMART MX265s in most cases. We use SMART Notebook everywhere so it's the only cost effective way of doing so, as licences for non-SMART hardware are expensive. Without SMART hardware connected, you will have a large watermark displayed when using the basic version. If you use the paid version on Non-SMART hardware, you pay over double for the license costs.

All our children have accounts to join our Meet sessions. Any sessions with external people use lobbies so have to explicitly be let in.

We've used Net2 for over a decade, all wired. Most of them are on RS485 lines. Then a few are normal network ones. We control all of our sites from a single Net2 server on our central cluster too. I'm not sure of the value of the wireless ones when running an RS485 line is very cheap and easy to be honest.

It depends how often you're going to update the version of Windows Server tbh. Me? I like to keep pretty up to date, but not everyone does. Also, one thing I'd definitely look at is why you have so many physical servers these days. We used to have similar numbers of servers but we've reduced the whole lot down to 2 physical servers with dual CPUs in each, each one has, IIRC 56 or something like that cores.

Both at home and in school. Other programs running sure, as they are presenting them to the children. One teacher tried several different mics/headsets. It happens on Chromebooks as well as Windows PCs. All SSD. All built in sound card. Headset has been tried by one of the teachers. The other hasn't, as they are hybrid teaching sometimes. Just the other participants hear it. It does seem to be sporadic. I did a load of test Meets with them and have been unable to reproduce. Google advised to clear cache and cookies and try again, and so far the one teacher has not experienced it again. So your "misbehaving server" might well be the problem somewhere!

One disadvantage of doing this is that the email address directory will be harder to use. We didn't bother trying anything like this here. Everyone has a first name. We publish them on our websites. Children are just told not to use them.

They tried that one - they turned off everything in the room - including their phones. Still happened.

2 of our teachers are now experiencing an issue whereby when they use Google Meet, their sound is ruined by a rhythmic drumming. (Download here). It varies a bit in intensity, but it is all the way through every Meet they are in. Both teachers have switched computers, they've switched rooms, one has unplugged everything in a room except the Chromebook, but the drumming is still there. Any ideas?
