any remote control software will do it -- but you need to make sure ports are unblocked to allow traffic over them, you do this at your proxy and/or may need ports forwarded at your router. ALSO: You may run into trouble if you're a school like us and have RM blocking ports out too, which will require you to get them to allow the ports through for you (at a cost).

Squire, don't despair. Things could be worse, you could be me! BSc in Computing. Coded video games played by people world wide. DJ, Hardcore Producer and more besides. I'm a jack of all trades who is everso slightly overqualified for the original role I was meant to do (swap printer cartridges and replace mice lol!). I'm an ICT Tech earning pittance, not getting much from my actual main skills! It's a funny old world. Programming jobs are insanely competetive and game programming even more so. However, jack of all tradiness puts you in an ideal position to become a "Highly Paid Consultant" so that may be an option for you. If theres something you want to learn, you must go out and learn it. If you want to code games, learn the stuff involved. Want to be a database admin? You know what to look up. Sounds to me you're more interested in training than a job because you feel like your skills/knowledge are lacking, so perhaps pursuing courses may be more advantageous to you, if you can afford to do so. Schools are largely institutionalised, you'll find that job roles don't differ a *huge* degree from school to school. Teacher A is replaceable by Teacher B, and even network managers and IT Techs can be replaced by someone else. They may not have the *exact* same knowledge but will quickly learn new things required at the specific school. Personally though, I think on the whole, unless you're moving from IT Tech to Network Manager it's largely a sideways move to change job in education, the only difference would be the different environment although this is just my opinion.

If you're like me and hate the gym/actual excercise but LOVE video games then I recommend you play copious amounts of DDR, the game is addictive and it'll make you shed pounds like nobodies business if you play it often enough. If you feel like a prat stomping on arrows then theres always the gym I suppose...

Just like a teacher wouldn't normally expect to be fixing computers, it is not our jobs to teach the classes. Yes, our jobs are to aid the teaching and learning, but our job roles are NOT to be delivering the teaching directly, that is what teachers are employed to do, if they do not do so then what is their job? Sit around and do nothing? We aid the teaching and learning by ensuring ICT equipment is working and ready for use and also by giving advice and/or training to those who need to teach using ICT equipment. We do not do the job of the teacher, they should be focussed on teaching just like we should be focussed on our job at hand.

I couldn't agree more with this sentence. They need to go do some IT TRAINING tbh. If they can't tell you how to normalise a database or what a primary key is for then they're NOT QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB (in my books). Maybe you should do their job and earn their salary too hmm? You wouldn't have a maths teacher that has trouble doing multiplication teaching maths would you? Why is IT different?

Scumbags! At the end of the day, I'd rather pay over the odds for a good fast reliable connection with support IN ENGLISH than cheap shoddy broadband with support in a language I cannot understand. I hope enough people switch ISP's to make Tiscali's millions worth of investment amount to naught. As for the people who were laid off, they'dd probably do well to make a new ISP to compete

Myself, I think the modern ICT suite should be treated like a sterotypical nuclear powerplant workplace. They are behind a reinforced impenetrable screen where they can only access the machine by putting their arms through two holes. They cannot: vandalise anything, steal anything etc. A shame it'll never be a reality!

Yikes! I like the BOFH responses. Definitely have the servers mysteriously 'crash' at some point during the day, and adamantly refuse to go fix them until its THAT time of the day to do your maintenance, only to inform them that it could take a good 5 hours to get it back up and running (i.e. all week according to your timetable). Do they not realise the importance of IT Support. Are you the only person at your school looking after the machines?

What sort of EULA would that deal have though?

Said junior wouldn't have sent that data if there wasn't some order from up above to have said data sent... Some government officials should go through a trial of breaching the data protection act 25 million times if you ask me.

Shoutcast is far simpler to setup and use, however Icecast allows you a lot more in terms of configuration/setup, depends what you want!
