  1. Thanks for the replies. I did actually discover the error shortly afterwards but not what I expected, but awaited any replies in the meantime. I can confirm both the Forest and Domain levels were both Windows 2012R2. I downgraded both to Windows 2008 and it worked !!!
  2. Hi all, Have a Windows 2012R2 Server and getting ready to transfer FSMO roles to a new Windows 2019 server. Have completed successfully the FRS to DFSR on the 2012R2 and both the Domain and Forest Functional Levels show as Windows 2012R2. However, when trying to add the Windows 2019 domain controller to the existing domain, get the following error :- Any help much appreciated. Thanks all
  3. Hi all, We have lots of printers in schools that are Ricoh. All of a sudden these are having print issues i.e. print jobs not coming out or coming out in B&W instead of colour. The 3rd party printer support company are trying to fob it of onto I.T. in schools. I just wondered if anyone had heard anything or if windows updates had screwed printers up again. These are Windows 10 systems with 2016 or 2019 DC Thanks all
  4. Hi all, We use Smoothwall for our Internet filtering. Have been informed that SSL Certificates need to be renewed every 2 years on the Smoothwall box due to GPDR requirements and pushed out to clients. This can a bit cumbersome. I just wondered if anyone else out there using other 3rd party filtering has to renew every 2 years also. Thanks all
  5. Thanks for all the responses including images and links. I agree that the certificate may not be trusted if the Ipads are not supervised. You need to set up a profile and add a SCEP certificate payload Go to System Manager>Settings. Top right "Add profile". under Add settings you will find: SCEP Certificate
  6. Hi all, Just wondered if anyone knows how to roll out the Smoothwall certificate to Ipads via Meraki MDM ? Thanks all
  7. Hi all, Have a situation where a client has Windows 10 laptops on a Windows 2012 R2 domain. Some seem to apparently lose connectivity and get the network is not private network discovery is turned off message. I'm not at the clients regularly but reports say it happens after a Windows update, others say it happens anyway. So not sure what reports are right but either way it happens. Just wondered if anyone else has come across this. Thanks all
  8. Thanks for the response. The downside is that it's going to take the school around 7 years until they break even current price compared to Bromcoms price.
  9. Hi all, Our schools use the SIMS \ FMS via the local authority. I'd like to try and get schools to move away from this to a cloud-based system. I am aware of Scholarpak and Bromcom. I don't use the packages myself but had a demo of Bromcom several months ago to check it out before mentioning to our schools. The webinar was impressive. However, recently obtained costs from Bromcom and they just seemed too expensive. For example, one school currently pays £4,490 for SIMS \FMS, T2P and CPoms. If they went with Bromcom it would cost £8,001 for the first year and £3,901 for each year after that. I was very disappointed considering Bromcom said they could price match. What do others on here please recommend for Cloud-based finance and costs ? Thanks all
  10. Thanks all, very good answers here and more or less along the same lines what I was thinking, just wanted some feedback to confirm.
  11. Hi all, I look after a few primary schools and very small businesses. I'm trying to look ahead and see how I can budget things per year for these customers and provide some sort of a roadmap. One of the schools also asked for a 5 year roadmap. All the customers use onsite servers, email is via O365 or M365 as it now is, backups are cloud-based. I'm hoping to get them to move onsite SIMS \ FMS to the cloud overtime and apart from the usual onsite hardware that needs replacing, I just wondered if there was any 'sort of' roadmap 'check sheet' or diagram that I could get some guidance from. Obviously it depends on schools budgets anyway, but I would like to see where it may be possible to take these schools within the next 5 years. Thanks all for any feedback
  12. Hi Guys, So what is the overall consensus, upgrade to Wifi 6 or stay at Wifi 5 for now ? I noticed that there was a mention that existing laptops etc would need new wireless cards. That just wouldn't be worth the time, effort and cost so is it really feasible to upgrade to Wifi 6. I'm just trying to figure out if existing hardware needs completely replacing i.e. laptops, switches in order to function with Wifi 6 Access Points or will there be a drop in performance if existing hardware is trying to connect to Wifi 6 Access Points ? I assume obviously any current switches would need replacing if they don't incorporate 802.11ax needed to work with Wifi 6 Access Points. Thanks all Thanks all
  13. Hi all, How does moving to wifi 6 affect current laptops for instance ? By that I mean, what hardware would need updating to work with wifi 6, is it all hardware in terms of switches, laptops for example that connect to the wireless ? Also, if moving to wifi 6, is it backward compatible with older standards that current hardware i.e laptops etc have been using with wifi 5 ? Thanks all
  14. Thanks, will give it a try.
  15. Hi all, Have users who connect their laptops to touchscreens and have duplicate display set. Is there a way of keeping duplicate display enabled, as users report that quite often they have to keep resetting the display to duplicate display ? Thanks all
  16. Hi all, Have setup a shared calendar in Office365 for certain staff. One user uses Outlook 2016 and the shared calendar name shows under Calendars, but when they try to tick the box where it shows the calendar name nothing happens. The box will not tick. I just wondered if this could be because nothing has been put in the calendar yet such as I meeting ? Thanks all
  17. Thanks Guys for the replies. The getmigrationstate shows all is fine.
  18. Good idea. I had to add via pop3 as the imap would not work. Is there anyway to export folders from Outlook into Gmail that I already have ? Thanks
  19. Hi all, Not sure if this is the right thread for this but here goes. Have Outlook 2016 set up at home using Virginmedia. I have been around the houses trying to get Outlook 2016 to work with the smtp settings through Virginmedia. Apparently many others have the same issue. I have reset my Virginmedia password so many times. I am able to log into their web portal but email will just not send via Outlook. Keeps popping up to input the password. I contacted them and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I mentioned smtp not working via Outlook. The reason I contacted them was because 3 years ago I had the same issue and they did something their end and fixed it. I've disabled my firewall settings in case that was causing the issue but it wasn't. The Virginmedia settings are below for pop3 or Imap but just does not work for smtp. https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-mail-update-settings-in-microsoft-outlook Thanks all
  20. Hi all, Running DCdiag, ad replication tool, netdom query fsmo, DFSR state and checking the new server over all seems successful. But thought I would have a look at an article I came across which shows the output of running this command:- For /f %i IN ('dsquery server -o rdn') do @echo %i && @wmic /node:"%i" /namespace:\\root\microsoftdfs path dfsrreplicatedfolderinfo WHERE replicatedfoldername='SYSVOL share' get replicationgroupname, replicatedfoldername, state Which then gives one of these outputs:- The state values can be any of: 0 = Uninitialized 1 = Initialized 2 = Initial Sync 3 = Auto Recovery 4 = Normal 5 = In Error In the article the user shows the following:- and they followed these instructions to correct the number 2 above to number 4 as below https://docs.microsoft.com/da-dk/troubleshoot/windows-server/group-policy/force-authoritative-non-authoritative-synchronization which should show:- I ran the command on the new server and it shows number 2 as in the first image above even though all tests on the server show fine. Do I need to do the force synchronization and if so am I performing a non-authoritative synchronization or a authoritative synchronization as per the article in the link above ? Thanks all
  21. Good point about the firewall, it was enabled. I did a re-replication and also checked this article as well and it seems to have sorted it after doing tests. Fingers crossed:- https://andreagx.blogspot.com/2018/01/ws-2016-recently-added-dc-do-not-work.html
  22. Doing a sysvol share check below, the new server is DC2019 but the old one is DC2012. When I previously ran this on the DC2012 before commencing, all tests passed. I am running the below on the DC2019. C:\Windows\system32>Dcdiag /e /test:sysvolcheck /test:advertising Directory Server Diagnosis Performing initial setup: Trying to find home server... 23. Hi all, I have run a FSMO role transfer from DC2012 to DC2019. Prior to that I ran the migrate from FRS to DFSR and all went fine. ADUC and everything has transferred over fine and I ran the adreplication tool and it says all successful. The DC2019 also shows it is the schema master when running netdom query fsmo. However, the Sysvol folder has not shared and there are no policies inside it. The sysvol folder is empty. Any help much appreciate. Thanks
  24. Thanks Ill give that a go
  25. I don't think the monitors have a displayport on them, I need to double-check. The PC will not be connecting to a smart board touchscreen, it's only two PC monitors and one PC. Thanks
