In some cases, it doesn't work correctly. We've had a few primary schools that failed to apply the SIMS Summer upgrade, yet for some reason, the database was upgraded and left on 3.61.901 so all clients had the usual 'incompatable database' message. In the end, we re-deployed the Summer upgrade, SOLUS3 saw the database was updated and did not include it in the list of targets to upgrade. That's a SOLUS3 issue, not a setup issue.

No end of issues here for us here supporting schools. However due to the SOLUS2 cut-off deadline, we've no choice but to get it out there. With the SIMS Summer 2 upgrade, almost every "upgrade failure" call came from SOLUS3 sites. We had maybe two or three form SOLUS2 only sites. SIMS Discover. SOLUS2 cannot handle upgrades of SIMS Discover. I think SOLUS3 was partially though up as a way to get Capita's flagship product (at the time) out in schools and upgraded. Of course, SIMS and FMS were both packaged into it, and SOLUS3 itself. From an LA perspective, SOLUS3 is AWFUL for patches as there is no easy way to re-deploy the same patch twice. For example the classic 'Reindex database' patch that fixes most things. You release it to a school, if they have auto-deploy set up, it will get applied during the upgrade schedule. If they need that patch again later down the line, you have to manually connect up and reschedule a deployment of it. In SOLUS2, we just reauthorised in Schools Manager and job done.

Capita have found an issue with the SOLUS3.6 update where it will not auto-deploy even though it has auto-deployable functionality. There has been no update in a while, just wondering if anyone else has heard if this has been addressed yet?

Both and the same. Full installer, but will give you the option to upgrade if it detects SOLUS3 is already installed.

Quick update to this, I was having net issues again last week and when I got back online, I checked out TalkTalk's service status page and it popped up saying I was due a free router upgrade. I thought 'what the hell' and hit the button and they sent me a new router. I knew it may not be as good as buying a better model but through I could use it to test that the line is not at fault and that it was the wifi on my old router. Well it arrived yesterday and so far, it's not too bad. It's got the TalkTalk branding as you would expect but admin access is not restricted and the hardware is a D-Link DSL-720. N range, 4 x 1GB Eithernet ports, USB port for a shared drive, built in DynDNS support. Only annoyance is the admin control panel is a bit rough n' ready. Port forwarding is a PITA so I can't get any an external connection to my Teamspeak server! I'm sure I'll eventually crack it.

Most likely a very slim chance, but I recall a friend in London in a bit of a similar situation (needed very, very cheap digs and was happy to live on his own). he heard about a developer that was converting a huge abandoned building (a old hospital or college I believe) into posh flats. It was taking them a very long time to progress the build so they fixed up a small number of the new flats, furnished them with the basics and rented them out cheap. Their idea was that it will give the impression that the building is not vacant and allowed them to cut costs on security while making a bit of cash, kid of a bit like a house sitter really. He said they never once had any trouble while he lived there and it was the cheapest accommodation he had ever had in London. I think he was charged about £50 a week but he said its becoming popular practice in bigger towns/cities with large developments. I'd assume there is a web sit service set up to advertise such places? It could be worth looking in your area to see if there is anything like this available. Like I said though, could be a long shot.

Like Matt said, looks like the paths, database names, passwords etc have not been entered correctly into SOLUS3 environment as it cannot return the current version info. Once the details are correct, it will return the version of SIMS your running and will allow you to deply to your hearts content.

Has anyone seen an error like this before in SOLUS3? It's the last message received from one of the workstation agents:

We had this issue, not really sure how we fixed it to be honest but it was to do with SIMS permissions. We removed the user form all assigned system manager groups, re-added and saved. It initially did nothing but it seemed to kick in overnight as the following morning, the user no longer got the error.

Summer is the last supported version. For info too if you use it, SOLUS 3.6 is not supported and does not work on Server 2003 or XP, you have to stick with SOLUS3.5.

My box was bang on! The delivery driver turning up at 8am while I was fast asleep on my holidays was not!!!

I find it rather clunky on my work PC now. Old Google maps ran a lot smoother.
