I tried trixbox and found it not to be very easy to configure. I would go with SIP trunks rather then additional lines and the digital interface. All runs over Ethernet.

the MPIO allows faster speeds to the san but not limiting a connection to a single path, I'm not sure what equallogic you have but it will have 2 ethernets into the back, the MPIO will provide load balancing across them. by attach Iscsi software how do you mean? setup the device as a target? If you get the Host intergration tools setup it will plugin directly to vcenter and do the rest for you. EDIT: you still have to do the MPIO part yourself.

nope shouldn't be any problems with that. Have you installed the equalogic Host intergration tools and MPIO on the esxi server?

what version of veeam tho? it may work in earlier versions of veeam but its not supported, and in later versions you get an error. Veeam and Free ESXi – it’s official now | Veeam Software Official Blog

the one I'm currently working on isn't just to tape. it's veeam backup to iscsi nas along with veeam replicated to a secondary site (hourly) the tape backup is for compliance reasons due to the industry they are in and will be transferring the data for tapes (encrypted)

I couldn't tell you! I meant more for the configuration. although thinking about it that's what the registry is in some ways.

veeam supports granular backups for exchange now with the ability to mount the edb and export the files needed. with regards to your comment about backing up windows like linux it would require pretty much all of the apps to be rewritten for it to work.

but you would have wasted resources somewhere. Personally I would recommend two (ideally 3) host with shared storag, and cheapest gb to £ storage you will find is custom made and running software for it.

you can ssh in, veeam works in a variety of ways for accessing the data so it depends on which was it is setup. I believe it works with the free version but VMWare don't want them to do it.

+1 for Veeam, I utilise it alot with off-site replication, hourly/ bi hourly (depending on host). in a virtual enviroment imho its the best backup software available.

I did look at arcserve d2d as it's configurable via management platform. but it didn't support tape so I guess there is another version. problem with backup exec downgrade is we are suggesting things to clients and saying buy 2012 and downgrade Just so I like the interface better isn't very professional.

You can't use veeam on Free ESXI its not supported.

Personally I would say 3 x hosts. then buy a large Supermicro machine and install Open-E for a SAN solution using SAS drives, Open-E do deals on server licensing for education on the cheap and you can build a large drive.

Looking for some suggestions on Backup to Tape software (nobody mention Backup Exec 2012 as its terrible). Got a few clients who backup using Veeam to disk and we are looking to transfer these backups to tape once a week. What is the best software out there as previously we used Backup Exec but I hate 2012 and think its the biggest pile of rubbish to come out of them, In my opinion Symantec have done a Microsoft and taken a good product and made it terrible (i.e xp and vista, 11d to 2012). What do people think?

copy the file and time how long it takes, then once its on the machine copy from one folder to another (don't move) and see if it still takes that long). Deffo running 1Gbs Full Duplex?
