Is it BSoD'ing (do you get a blue flash on the screen before it reboots), or does it just reboot? Also, does it work fine if you boot it with the cable plugged in before you turn it on?

Just to check - is the firewall completely disabled, or is it just disabled for the wireless interface?

I'm not sure if it's related to the null response given by the homepage, but the "last 10 posts" doesn't seem to be updating. I've tried a forced refresh in firefox, and also opened it in IE, and it definately seems to be static. The thread which due my attention to it was http://www.edugeek.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14869 which is still listing kerrymoralee9280 as the most recent poster, even though others have posted since. The other posts seem to be fixed as well (the order hasn't changed like it usually does).

I've got it now - both in firefox and IE7. Sending a PM now.

You'd need to open the relevant ports and have them forwarding correctly (or a VPN setup) - my guess is you would have issues with your LEA/RBC to get ports opened.

There's an option deep within the config options for the VPN connection to not route internet traffic through the VPN if that's what you mean. I only have access to my laptop at the minute which is running Vista (and has decided it doesn't want to play VPN this evening!), but you should find it if you look for it - I think it refers to gateways.

I don't have ISA, but I assume you can require authentication, and use integrated authentication. Then if they're using IE, their current logon credentials are used. My guess is there will be some free apps out there to sort through the logs, especially if you set it to log to an SQL database.

I'm guessing there's a CC3 policy I don't know about which prevents all local logons - if you could disable this and allow the cached logon details to be used, then they could logon over Christmas using their standard domain details.

Have you tried doing a DNS Report at DNSstuff.com - I found that quite helpful in debugging one of my sites.

On occasion the BBC don't even bother to use English words! There was an "airplane" crash a while back - they fixed it when I emailed them ranting about standards at the BBC! Spelling isn't one of their strong points either, lots of "solider" have died in the Iraq war.

The new flatscreen ones run XP Embedded and take ages to boot up apparently. I found buying a server to be quite helpful - if you scout about on ebay you can usually find some old kit for little money. I found a 266MHz Server with 256Meg of RAM and a Win2K server license for £10 - it was fine for testing out Group Policy and Active Directory and RIS (2K doesn't do WDS). I also setup DansGuardian on an Ubuntu virtual machine (my dad limited how many physical boxes I could have!) - that was good fun (even though I couldn't get it to do transparent filtering properly)

A mate of mine didn't hand his phone in for a mock exam on one occasion - so we rang it. Luckily for him he'd had the foresight to turn it off, otherwise he may have had some explaining to do (as it's usually still noticeable to some degree if it's on silent). He handed it in for the real exam though! It's a shame there's not a signal you could send to all phones to make them ring.

I think having to wear shirt & tie is a bit OTT for technicians - even the police don't have to wear that now! (most police forces have black T-shirts and combat trousers). I'd also say wearing a tie could be a health and safety risk - moving components etc. I usually wore jeans and a shirt (cheapo ones from Tesco - 2 for a tenner or something similar!)

I did it through Group Policy - I made an OU called "ScreenResolution" or similar, and put the relevant people in that, applied the same policies as are applied to the Kids OU, and then just added a logon script for that OU to set the screen resolution to 800x600. I then setup a logon script for the Kids OU to set it back to 1024x768. I forget where in the Group Policy Editor it is and I won't have access to my test domain for another week - but I'm sure someone else can point it out.
