Would modifying the chrome to remove the option from the context menu work? I might have a look and see if it's do-able as people have been using the set as desktop background option here, even with FrontMotion firefox (which gives me GP control).

How about a Logoff script to change ProxyEnable to 0 in the registry, defined in Group Policy? So when they logoff on the network, it removes the proxy settings which were set when they log on.

I'd not actually spotted that! The only thing with watching them early is the waits (3-4 weeks sometimes!), still sooner than five though! I once treated a particularly irritating person in a house-ish fashion once: "Why isn't my computer working?" "Because you're an idiot!" A techy mate was trying to uninstall Office 2007 beta, following the guidelines at http://www.sharepointbuzz.com/index.php/2006/11/16/how-to-manually-uninstall-office-2007-beta/, and instead of deleting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\*F01FEC they deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18 We've both tried googling to find out what exactly it does, but can't find anything out - I had a look through mine and it appears to contain strings of varying files related to applications, with all the keys being in hex. Does anybody know what exactly that key does, and how badly screwed his registry is?

I had a quick look at the full one at home, and it wouldn't authenticate against the domain. Luckily I could get into the registry remotely to remove the key to load it as it still loaded in safe mode. I just edited the existing msgina.dll by opening it with visual studio and changing the bitmaps. If it's against the EULA, I'd better not roll it out at work!

I'm not sure, but can't you hide those options through Group Policy? I did try FrontMotion Login, which looked quite cool, and it's flash based, so you can design your own. However it crashed my PC a few times while testing, so I ditched it.

If you want to stick with AOL, you can phone them up and they should give you a free wireless router in return for agreeing to stay with them for another year. Then all you have to do is plug the wireless router into your PC using the supplied cables, turn off wireless if you don't want it and then you can go straight on the internet without having to run the AOL software. 2 friends who don't want to leave AOL have done this, and it worked perfectly.

I use the ASP version of this for my Wake On LAN portion of my ASP based management console.

I'm still running Win2k server here, so I just fetch the amount of free space left on drive F (the one with the user shares on) from an ASP page, as that reports the user's quota pretty accurately (and shows the same as N:\ would). If you want the code I can hunt it out. Alternatively - if you have a drive mapped to the user share, some VBScript output with the page should do it, just getting the amount of free space left on drive H: or whatever one you have. You could then possibly use XMLHTTP to post back to the linux box and have it draw the nice graphs.

I've got 3CX running here on my Windows box (not allowed another PC to put Linux on, and I can't really run Asterisk in a VM) I haven't tested call queuing, but I have got it setup so they get the hold music (changed to Code Monkey ) for 2 minutes, then are asked if they want to continue holding or leave a message. It does the job pretty well - but if Asterisk can be done, I would say that is better. There is an Asterisk@Home distribution which appears pretty simple to implement.

They've raised the Threat Level to "Critical" which is the highest on the scale - Home Office - it's been at "Severe" until now (since August 2006), which suggests they think they may be linked.

If It's IPTV, the BBC are launching their IPlayer soon, but I think that's more of a download than a streaming live broadcast - however they are also doing that, but it's in beta at the moment, and you need to get the password off your ISP if they support multicasting.

We had someone do that with RM Tutor 2. We prevent executing from student home drives, but they managed to find the shortcut to the app on one of the servers :oops: - A quick cacls of the directory the exe was in (on C)! We have a policy of "tell us how you got in and go free" which seems to work quite well. Try a "we will find out who did it, own up and tell us how, or we will seriously bust you!" Ours were actually discovered by the head of IT who has an excellent knack of sneaking up on kids and standing behind them unnoticed :twisted: !

Just make an OU then, and put the users in that. That's what I did. The default accounts are still in the users container, everything else is in an OU under a "User Accounts" one. My standard profile is about 30Meg! It takes ages when logging in on the slower machines, so I had to set up a special one just for logging on to other machines!

I got stung once on ebay, that guy had 97% or so feedback. As it was less than £100, I managed to get all but £15 back from ebay, so it wasn't too bad! I would say report it to the police, I didn't, but now wish I had! I was going to pay by Paypal, but it wouldn't accept my card for some reason, so I ended up sending a cheque.

I'm currently trying to setup a Linux machine with Packetfence to sort out the malware issue, as I'm pretty sure it can kill anything it sees as a threat!
