Friday 13th - End of the Projectors
Geek_of_HeathMount replied to Geek_of_HeathMount's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
I like the idea of selling the year 7's and i'll probably include the year 8's to as a buy one get one free offer!!! That said I'm interested to know where you can get a unit for £350 as the cheapest projector we have ever had has been £800 -
I have just had 3 projectors wink out on me Which isn't particularly good as i have already used my projector budget allocation !!! So i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, so I'm now wondering what other people do regarding their projectors. We currently have or should i say had 38 and they only seem to last 3 years. Can someone possibly advise me on a best direction to take as I don't particular want to spend around 38K over three years on projectors. The management is now leaning on me to provide a solution or a way forward by the close of play Monday Any help greatly appreciated

Hi All, I'm in the middle of rolling Backup Exec 12 out and i have hit a brick wall. I have successfully managed to get my server to backup to both my "backup to folder" and my tape drive working. so i thought i would be a bit more adventurous so i have deployed my windows server agents across my network and checked that the account used in the logon accounts window has access to all the selection lists, this works fine. I then created my backup polices for each server, daily and weekly, this too works fine. Scheduling fine, resources fine. Feeling pleased with my self i ran a test all fine too.Feeling a happy man i went home The following day i came back to check the server and view my handy work. Only to find that all of my polices had failed with an access denied message in the log. The strange thing is on checking the help files i found that my problem is my anti virus is not letting backup exec access to a couple of files/folders and this is my brick wall. The account i'm using is the same account that my av uses to deploy its self around the network so i don't get why it says access denied and then fails, especially as I've ticked the box to use Microsoft shadow volume copying service. What am i missing? Any ideas greatly received

For over a year now we have been running the above devices, twenty of them, through MS server 2003 and everything has been fine. However, eight weeks ago we upgraded all our servers to MS 2008 Standard, everything appeared to be fine until three days ago. The devices just stopped logging onto the server via RDP, there were no warning events in the logs. So our first thought was that maybe one of the services had stopped working. After checking this and finding nothing, we decided to un-install the TS roles and then re-apply them. This achieved nothing other than confirm that there was nothing wrong with the server. We then turned our attention to the devices, we found that we could surf the internet fine, but not use the RDP application to connect to the server. After several failed attempts to communicate with the support desk I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what they did to resolve it. So to summarise:- Server is fine, we can RDP in from PC's Thin client devices we create the RDP application, we connect, it turns active to "yes", waits a couple of seconds, turns active to "no" Result frustrated IT bod that should of gone home hours ago !! Any help greatly appreciated !!

Guys I have an annoying problem that I would like a little help with. I have a Mac Book Pro running all the latest OSX. However, since last night (10 - Aug) it has been freezing for no valid reason. The first thing i notice is that the menu bar stops responding followed by not being able to launch any new apps, after which the menu bar disappears. Once its has got to this point it will then not shut down cleanly. TIA Ian

Morning All, I have an interesting problem which I'm hoping someone will be able to help with. I have a user that's using the latest version of windows mail on vista as his previous machine decided it didn't want to work any more. However, he now wants all his previous email. This in its self is not a problem i thought you would remove the hard drive from the old laptop, turn it into a usb external drive and tell windows mail to import. However, I can not find his files to import in the days of xp i knew exactly where to go, but vista and this new version of outlook express has me foxed Any help much appreciated.

Dear all, I currently have the following pieces of kit a MacBook, a Laptop and a Desktop. However, I'm now looking to use just one machine. I'm playing with the idea of using either my laptop and using microsofts virtual PC but i hear it's a bit memory and hard disc hungry or my MacBook but i'm not sure what software to use. Any ideas? TIA

I need to write a couple of admin scripts to run on our mac server and i was wondering which would be the best book buy. Any ideas?
-
It did help I had found that someone, who will remain nameless at this point , had brought in and plugged in another WAP and tried to configure it to work with the network. However, as they were unsuccessful they removed it from the building. This of course meant that the mac thought it had all the right credentials, which it didn't.

Hi all, my apologises if this has been posted else where, only i haven't been able to find it. I have a number of macs all suffering one of two problems. Problem 1 :- All the macs are bound to my AD network and when a user powers up a mac book or ibook wirelessly not all the services are available and hence they can not log on. However, if they plug in an ethernet cable or log in as the local admin and log out and then log in as themselves all the services are available. This one is driving me nuts as this problem doesn't always occur. Problem 2 :- We have recently deployed WEP keys to all our wireless access points, in the most part this has worked well and has stopped users Itouches and Iphones from connecting to the network . However, every now again the users play with the wireless settings and the WEP key has to be re-entered. This in its self is not a problem, what is a problem is the fact that the macs don't recognise either the WEP key or the Wireless Access Point. Thus far the only way round is to rebuild the effected mac, which I don't want to do for obvious reasons. Can anyone suggest a way forward on the above?? Thanks

Hi All, I have a "i know it can be done" kind of question. In SQL server you can schedule and run a store procedure and have the results of the store procedure emailed to you. However, I need to achieve the same result in mysql, any ideas how to achieve this? Thanks in advance

That would certainly improve the profile page, but not quite sure how it would solve my integration woes:confused:- 7 replies

Thanks for the heads up on mahara.org I have been playing with LDAP authentication and have managed to get it to work and in June we'll be getting the SIMS AD plug in which, so i'm told, automatically creates AD users and assigns thier AD rights from SIMS.net. This should take care of all account creations etc. However, after reading the notes in MoodleDocs regarding integration I'm curious to know if it controls access rights to courses too. I currently have this set up to work by year groups, which seems to work well. I just need to know if their is a way of getting that information from AD and into moodle.- 7 replies
