port 25 blocked.. what are my options
Potato-Peeler replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Could you not contact the ISP in an attempt to get the port unblocked? Failing that the South Africans recently tested carrier pigeons vs E-mail... -
Heya in same place as you, done NVQ 2 and 3 and I've started CCNA course. Its is definitely worth it, I've learned loads and people seem to think quite highly of it to. I dont know too much about the degree courses but i can say for 3 years if you have to go to evening courses two nights a week it will get boring very quickly, and youll want your free time helps. Hope it helps!

I do the CCNA, and to be honest i think you can just use the web access net academy that comes with it, couldn't be easier

Firstly have you tried the computers in a room where network def works? Such as your office. And if so and it doesn't work, have you tried reinstalling the lan drivers, we had a batch of stones which did that

Have you tried looking at IT apprenticeships in your area? After you get your diploma im sure you would be snapped up mate.

Using google mail for school email, is it a good idea?

Another con is if the internet blows then email will to, as if you had an exchange they could still use internal email? A pro is much better diskspace perhaps? -
As logng as you know what components are used, e.g. intel pro network, or nvidia 9800 gt graphics, then you'll be fine. The only problem i can imagine is finding drivers for really obscure parts.

Surely all authors and makes of dvd's could say the same thing? Yet they just accept it as part of life.

Thanks everyone, i think i am getting the fat model, not the slimline, and definitely not a smegging macbook

OK for 250 quid i can get a ps3, 80 gb hdd, and infamous. Or i can get a slimline ps3, with a 120 gb hdd and no game. I am not entirely sure which one to go for. What do people think?

At the moment we have a group policy that sends out the old ie6 brandingdll into ie7. its just a simple batch file but it seems to work well enough. COPY \\server\lfoldername\iedkcs32.dll c:\windows\system32 /V

Does seem to be differing reviews of them. Though to be fair all the 4 year old kit was brilliant and never ever breaks. Though i do think all the new kit is whatever they scrounge on the day, as it seems to be so varying in reports.

Doesn't seem to matter how many times i am logged on, just if the computer name has existed before. E.G. room20 becomes a computer room, no issues renaming them r20-01, r20-02 even if im logged onto all of them at the same time. However new computers in r23, happens on each one, unless i delete the accounts for the computers on the active directory. Could be just some quirk of our network i suppose.
