  1. Sorry, when i said deploy i meant as group policy over summer, as though its large, it wouldn't bother anyone over summer?
  2. A job to deploy during summer perhaps? Or if you happen to re-image any suites?
  3. So Ubuntu with a big google background and icon on the apps launcher? Maybe an advert bar at the top? Going to be so awesome! Not
  4. A dell precision perhaps? They are fairly beasty, we have a load of them in media suites. Not sure bout the i7, but theres definitely one with a Xeon. Check it out on the site?
  5. Our latest quote from dell is 400 quid a pop for dell optiplex 760 sf with: Core 2 duo with 2.8Ghz 3MB Cache 2 GB of ram 160GB HDD DVI adapter Gbit Ethernet Vista with XP downgrade For 400 quid a pop xD An extra 65 for monitors which are 19 inch i think. Oh and all with 5 year next business day on site warranty
  6. You tried using nslookup to test your DNS?
  7. Have you tried using gencontrol? Never fails me and needs only a server install, no clients. We also use visionapp remote desktop and occasionally real VNC. But i try and stick to the gencontrol.
  8. I don't think it would be worth the money tbh, you've already got a pretty good graphics card and like above, you could just use a dvi to hdmi connector
  9. Will the server power consumption edit out that though? As to run it you have to have some pretty beefy servers to do this kind of thing won't you? Like 8 GB RAM and two xeons? I'm not sure on that one. Also if one application becomes corrupt or fails for whatever reason on the server, e.g. MS Word, will it not mean the entire room can't use it, instead of one P.C?
  10. Hi, I have completed NVQ levels 2 and 3 in IT, I am currently studying towards CCENT and then CCNA on a night college course, and i was wondering what else i could do to fill out my C.V. really. I was considering the MS certification books and working through them, and trying to do the exams. Can anyone please tell me what i can do that would best benefit my future? Thank you
  11. I hate thin clients, the amount of power the server has to hold for medium to high end applications is ridiculous. Don't forget what you save in price of desktops, youll probably lose in paying for servers to run them. Oh and networking
  12. If all staff have laptops what would cover teachers use? And the teachers will inevitably lose or forget laptops for some lessons and be left more clueless then usual. Not forgetting how many virus's, games, and inappropriate material the teachers will somehow end up with on laptops. Also more liekly to get damaged. Just too many reasons for not isn't there:P
  13. Right Ive updated the BIOS twice, and I've tried the other methods of encryption. It still refuses to find the hard drive. Any ideas? Cheers
  14. We agreed to become a guinea pig for the council, and ended up with a wireless bridge. Get around 80 Mb internet xD
  15. This is the one we normally use Extra Value USB2.0 Caddy for upto 2.5" 500GB SATA Hard Drives - Glossy Black Mesh Frame - Ebuyer It is for 3.5 inch hdd however i've been told it can also do the 2.5 as they have the same connection size? I apologize if im wrong but theres another great 2.5inch one on there for 8.99 Hope it helps
  16. Graduate scheme in an it department? Quite a few places do them. Or you could do some vendor qualifications like Microsoft or cisco?
  17. price and warranties are great, but if you look they do some dodgey deals. You get laptops with core duo instead of core 2 duo, 3 year old motherboards with no pci slots. They sell off a lot of old kit no-one else wants But you can't beat their warranty
  18. You tried dell optiplex? They're fairly awesome. Never gone wrong, and quite fast. Tough we also do stones, not as good, but best warranty ever. Bloke always pops up with parts the next business day.
  19. Ag, really sorry im not too good with linux as of yet. drwxrwxrwx 3 fog fog 4096 2009-06-29 15:50 images Is that what you want? And like i said its ubuntu 8.10 used for it.
  20. Sorry about the delay, took an early lunch. root@user-desktop:~# ls -l /images total 5129160 -rwxrwxr-x 1 fog root 2219635041 2009-06-15 14:11 anne -rwxrwxr-x 1 fog root 1513734836 2009-06-26 11:34 b17 drwxrwxrwx 2 fog fog 4096 2009-06-26 11:34 dev -rwxrwxrwx 1 fog fog 1513734836 2009-06-26 11:34 laptop-09 That what your after? And im using ubuntu 8.10
  21. I'll try and get a bios update off of stone, and let you know how it goes, cheers.
  22. I thought it might be something in the BIOS, as its only the stone mr-052 and mr-055 which are doing it, all the samsung and acer laptops just seem to accept. All the settings are the same in the truecrypt set up, and Ive changed all the BIOS settings that could make sense to change.
  23. Well the problem is, theres nothing to restore, as it happens immediately after the encryption process. We selected encrypt the system partition standard truecrypt volume AES encryption RIPemd-160 Then the rest of the stuff with the rescue disc and the pre-test. I apologise if have anything wrong, but thats what i remember doing. We are using stone laptops, mr-052
  24. Well these particular ones with the issues haven't been handed out, and tbh after the first one they've been handled like royalty. We even tried nothing but xp, no drivers, trucrypted, then shut down and it did this.
  25. We have recently started using truecrypt on our laptops at work, and after the first few there were no problems and they all worked. On a couple we've had an issue where it encrypts perfectly, but when you restart it after encryption, it refuses to find the hard drive to boot from. It is not on hidden, as we have checked and I've tried it three times, and two colleagues have also tried it, and when we put in the rescue disc it boots up fine. Has anyone got an idea why this would happen? Thankyou in advance
