  1. the issue with the drives has now been sorted i changed some settings in the plist for sidebar to set the drives to nevervisible i will try rename the bootcamp drive starting with a dot and see what happens thanks guys
  2. bigger problems here i have hidden the network part in finder (so I thought) but then i goto file open the devices list shows macbook1 this is the name of the machine can i remove this
  3. i dont know if this is possible but can i hide the mac's hard drives in finder as i do not want the kids browsing the local drives we have workgroup manager running can this be done i know that i can hide the drives from the desktop but i need to block all access to Makintosh HD and Bootcamp Dives
  4. i have an adm now that removes the network links and the librarys when im back in school i can post if required
  5. from further investigation i think its a registry hack for office is what i need
  6. me again how can i remove the add ftp locations from the look in box in windows 7 im hoping this is a gpo setting i have missed.

  8. so should i just not use the workgroup manager to restrict programs as limited users cant run anything they should not need access to like directory manager etc
  9. can someone point me in the right direction of the policy i need to set that stops limited users browing the c drive trough office and other programs that have a file open box eg c is hidden but if users try c: in a file open dialogue box they can browse the c drive any ideas my policy for xp is working but windows 7 is still allowing access

  11. would allowing the adobe folder in applications to be run and then blocking the uninstall app work not happy with the macs at the moment but im sure they will be ok when they get deployed. kinda bitten off too much in one chunk migrating to windows 7 and creating a mac suite at the same time windows 7 seems ok now after spending hours looking at the group policy setup
  12. Does anyone know what would be best to lock down the macs should i create a list of apps that can run or create a list of things that cant trouble is i do not really know what to add to a cant run list any ideas?
  13. we had the same issue here google chrome installed without admin permissions. if google can get installed what about dodgy spyware etc
  14. the problem is with a student login admin is fine what should i be using to control what can run for certain groups
  15. installed adobe cs5 on macbook pro using worgroup manager to control apps etc the problem i am having is when running the cs5 programs i get the following message you do not have permission to run the adobe application manager what file do i need to add to the allow list in work group manager i have sorted the rest but i just can not find the file it wants to run any help would be much appretiated

  17. thanks for that i will have a look at that i just dont want the kids getting to the system settings and wiping the drives etc first time user of mac os im learning fast though
  18. i moved to lanschool as i got 2 classrooms of 30 pcs for about 250 quid (migration pricing) netsupport are just stupid money now
  19. setting up new mac network with a mini mac server and imac+macbookpros i have the logon side sorted but i would like to know on what you guys allow to run under a students logon i am using the workgroup manager to do this i am running cs5 and it is taking quite a while to set up what to allow does anyone have a list of files that i should allow
  20. i had the same issue with my acer and the fan and vent was completely blocked cleaning it out fixed the problem
  21. ring support its what you pay for i know some of the are script monkeys but you might get lucky
  22. how about this script "get the teachers to control the kids" "job fixed" works for me the problem is not with the system it is a classroom management issue

  25. what we did with the trolley is we put a piece of wood at the top and cut slits in it for the power cables to come through then screwed it up tight the cables do not come out and if you cable tie them in the back to not allow any slack all is well. no damage to cables as of yet if you would like a picture of how ours is set up just ask.
