  1. I have found Sims to be nothing but trouble due to the client-server nature of the software. CMIS and Bromcom both work on a web front-end hooked directly into the database on the server which, in my experience, causes less problems. Just my two cents.
  2. I'm afraid I have to echo sylv3r's comment - I was there but didn't have time to cover the show let alone say hi. My apologies to you guys. I did get one of your Apple Training Course brochures though; let's hope I can strongarm our SMT into letting me go!
  3. At least it means minimal changes to the infrastructure of most of our current set-ups
  4. I vote we collectively set fire to QCA headquarters and end this once and for all
  5. My school still want us to carry on I think it is because they (a) have no idea what is involved and (b) don't understand that any results generated are irrelevant and meaningless.
  6. My SMT are now dragging their heels on cancelling this. My HT sent me this link although I can't see what it is actually trying to say. Sounds like total blather to me in an attempt to justify such a huge waste of public money.
  7. That is exactly what has been happening and why scrapping this particular test is so important. My previous school was using the interface as the basis for all year 9 lessons for exactly this reason.
  8. Any idea when we get a definite Government yay or nay? I have yet to deploy the PC-based software and am itching for an excuse not to do it!
  9. Ha ha ha. :sob:
  10. You need to visit Adobe.com licensing and "apply" for a free license to distribute the players across your intranet. Signing up and approval takes about 5 minutes, after which you can download MSIs of the Flash and Shockwave players. These packages can then be installed as per normal using GPOs. And unlike most packages I have tried on the network here, these ones actually work! D'oh! You beat me by a matter of seconds!
  11. Looks like the Swedes are starting to panic - a second cam has been added over the weekend! (You get a nice view of it's flaxen ar$e from this angle ROFL).
  12. I heard Ipswich FC were going to be unable to field a full team on Saturday because a dyslexic killer has been offing their substitutes
  13. Such is the nature of topical humour. :sigh:
  14. Not been knocking around Ipswich lately have you?
  15. Is that fun in the vein of being hit round the head with a gold bar wrapped in a slice of lemon?
  16. I have this morning received a very helpful email from QCA/RM: I have again checked the APS this morning and the test packages were downloaded on the 7th December (just like they were last time I checked). Surely the fact that I have access to the aforementioned familiarisation materials now means that my server is (and always has been) talking to their server? I'm really quite narked now because QCA/RM send that email to every listed contact at my school so I can now expect a queue of teachers running around my office with their heads on fire asking why haven't done it yet. Advice please?
  17. MMMM....yellow.... Is the re-transmission of BBC copyrighted TV shows even legal?
  18. I couldn't find yodelling sheep, but I did find this...
  19. My apologies, it would appear that the BBC's link is now broken. Try here. You can see it's beard better by day though
  20. I love this story on the BBC website. We have the goat cam running 24/7 in the hope of catching this years ignition!
  21. One thing I noticed last year was that although you should be able to fit the sessions into a standard 1-hour timetabled period, but because of the speed of the system it just isn't possible. I have been pushing the Exams Officer and ICT Co-ordinator to allow at least 1.5 hours per session. Logon can take up to 15 minutes when you have 30+ students on, and if they crash out (which the time-wasters will do "accidentally") it takes another 15 to get back on. Make sure you get the timetabler to factor this in early.
  22. Shut it underling! ROFL
  23. There's a surprising lack of flame in response to that comment
  24. Linked blog from the above TES forum thread. LOL
  25. @richard I think you may have just cleared my backlog of outstanding jobs too ROFL
