  1. We use mStore and bought it from Arena, very simple to us, just resembles a digital filling cabinet. Basically we work like this, if it is on Sims then it stays there, everything else is put on mStore, it uses a small client which runs on the machine and can do word/outlook directly or have documents scanned in, it has an export from Sims with all current and past pupils +admin information on its database, you simple add a document type, then start to type the surname it will find the user and click finish. This document is then held as a tiff against that student and is very easy to pull back. The main point of this is audit and also no need for any filling cabinets, we have also archived all old paper documents and thrown them away (you need to make sure all of your complience documentation is correct to do this) The ico provide a template for this which the governors have to sign off. It takes a little time to intergrate and isnt an IT think, make this very clear to the office and bursar, we help set it up, train staff and also do the archive, we now have all of admin, SEN, pastoral working on the system live. As for Sims or Network shares, when getting into Child Protection or SEN information which must under the data protection act be only seen by specific people this system is needed, to do this on Sims would be almost impossible (although you can do permissions). In addition you dont have the audit complience that data protection and the ICO need. The last reason is that you have to keep any documents which could be needed in future until the student is 25, thats 11 years of archive, leave that on Sims and doc store will be enourmous. mStore lest us set retention dates (it also works with FMS). It is also independant, so if one day we got rid of Sims then no issue, it uses the upn information to attach to students, pop the new system in, all data is fine and then carry on. It was quite hard to impliment but now people are starting to understand it we are starting to move along at quite an accelerated rate, we have a need due to moving into a new shoe box sized building to basically remove as much paper as possible, this has done it for us.
  2. We are just about to start to plan for a new build. We want to get away from the orienting and projector replacing that goes with IWB's and have decided to go CTouch LED screens. We still want to keep ActiveInspire if possible though, even if this means having to pay for a license, I cannot find anything about this on the Promethean website. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. St Cuthbert's Business and Enterprise College in Rochdale would like to notify all schools that they have a ever increasing amount of IT which is going to be made available to other schools. Currently we have 8 promethean presenta boards, a number of Sunray 2's and other items which are available at minimal cost if any school is interested in them. (the promethean boards are free due to age and would be useful as spare parts)
  4. I would go with the Kodak cameras as well, we run about 60 in our school, they are very easy to use, so easy in fact that teachers do their own uploading and editing of work, basic point and shoot,
  5. We are going to start to use Android app builder from MIT next year and have tested etc: but i need 6 devices on which we can provide to our IT classrooms to assist them in testing apps which make it out of the test lab. they need to be 4.0 and have as many features as possible without being over expensive, does any one have any good ideas of which products to go for.
  6. We have just had Frog installed and everything is working apart from the drive redirection. This is logged with their helpdesk but i was wondering if anyone else had experienced the issue so could point us in the right direction. I have edited the share permissions, changed the link etc but it is as if the system is asking for permission to the frog server and not the server the drive is on. We have only had it a couple of days and our build doesnt even take place for a month but if i could get this bit working then i can start to show the members of staff who are going to be using frog in the first instance what it is about and let them start experimenting with it. Any help would be great.
  7. Our school is current being fitted out with a new Cunninghams cashless solution leaving us with 3 vericool revals (one new) and 8 tills. If any school out there uses Vericool and could use the equipment or parts (for a small donation to school funds) please let us know.
  8. We have loads of fs5015, 5110, 5200 and 1100, 1120 all running off s2008r2 print server and not had this issue with any of them, it is just this one 3920 that is causing the issue, that is what is annoying me. The KX driver works fine for the other 50 printers we have so the Kyocera excuse of its the driver doesnt seem to work. Thanks for your reply anyway but i think im just going to go with the swap out and see if this resolves the issue, ive popped a Samsung ML-3750 in the room at the minute which isnt anywhere are good as the FS-3920 but this hasnt had a single issue.
  9. Does anyone else use these printers, i know they are very popular with managed print companies. Background: I have an issue with 1 of these printers (i have 7) but 1 keeps saying processing on the screen and freezes, it then needs restarting and then it will work fine for a while, until it does it again. It has noe started giving a fault code F000, upon ringing Kyocera who usally are very good (althoug my estimation due to this issue has gone from good to very poor) advised me to change the driver from the KX universal driver (the one we use for every kyocera printer in the school) to the KPDL driver, due to the KX driver not being very good at rendering high quality images. OK i though would make sense as when the printer is failing the class is usally sending a large amount of publisher and powerpoint documents at it. I have done this and it fails again (we dont get this on any other printer in the other ict rooms, and they all do the same work), this time giving the error code multiple times, after restarting the gui also starts to fail. Problem with the printer i think, so i ring Kyocera back and get passed through to someone who upon telling them the error code offeres to switch the printer out, i need to ring back as i havent filled in the online registration, once filled out log again. So i ring back and get someone else, tell them the same info and the excus is that the printer simply doesnt like the job i am sending to it, now, im not being funny but in 10 years of doing this job i have never come across a printer that doesnt like to print certain things, drivers yes and these can be changed but the actual printer its self, no. So after a slightly heated argument i managed to get them to swap the printer out. Which brings me back to my first question, does anyone else out there use these printers and if you do what drivers are you using as the list of Kyocera drivers is vast.
  10. I have this one, i find it quite good, build a little poor but it does everything i need it to, i know someone else who uses their wii remote for this, that works very well, with powerpoint and media centre edition.
  11. Found a couple of simple ways to resolve this. One, create a new folder within the root and call it shortcuts, then highlight all folders in the folder where the home drive folders are kept and select all, then right click and send to desktop (you need to do this from the share as the teachers would see it, not C$ etc), then copy the newly created shortcuts into the inital folder (we called it student home drives) and hid all the other folders, now when staff go in they see the shortcuts to the student home drives and not the home drives, these do not contain the desktop.ini file and dont change. The way we resolved it after this ongoing was to use file resource manager to block desktop.ini files from being saved, then did a simple search per year and removed the files, they arent especially needed as they only save the configuration for viewing folders etc, we have specified a default layout by editing the hive file for the student default userprofiles and this works fine. This has worked fine ever since.
  12. We have noticed since our data manager added all of the front page panels such as assesment data etc that the sims has become very slow. We use SQL Express unfortunatly and the cpu usage now when there are about 70+ users on the system runs at 100% all day. Taking the panels off seems to resolve the issue as does reducing the number of users on the system. We are looking to upgrade the server to full SQL over the half term as it is a quad core with 4Gb so might as well get some software that can use the servers power. In the mean time does anyone know how to globally reduce the refresh rate of these apps on the front page to at least reduce the CPU load. Our Edit team isnt sure and we dont really want to have to log back into everyones users profiles and take off the panels only to have to put them back on in 2 weeks.
  13. for a 1500 3-1 school Network manager should be 24-27k Senior Tech 18-20k Tech 16-18k
