It might not be a local cert that's tripping it, it could be the other side that's presenting it for the handshake (probable in this case) The SANs offered are listed in the full details - it might point you towards what is trying to connect. The most likely culprits are an out of date cert, a missing name from the SAN list, or a revoked cert (or a CRL failure). Although as I've said, if it's not causing you any issues it may not be worth bothering with.

It means something is failing a secure channel handshake. The most common cause is a duff certificate or disallowed protocol. If the full event details do not list the name or IP sent, and they're happening regularly, you could wireshark the server's network connection and see which are failing. That said, schannel can be a bit chatty. If you've no ill effects it might not be worth chasing.

IIRC if you set "Specify intranet Microsoft update service location" to disabled, it'll use the Internet location.

If it's a standalone host, as precaution I'd take a full config dump from RVTools first. If something does go wrong and you need to rebuild, you'll be glad to have it.

No, but it's pretty simple. Create CSR on a windows server rekey/reissue certificate with your provider, copy the contents of the CSR into the box provided when prompted (this'll depend on the cert issuers process) Download rekeyed certificate when it's ready Import certificate into the Cert store on the machine you created the CSR on (Run> MMC > add snapin "Certificates" > choose 'computer account' > add to 'Personal' store) Export certificate, choosing "include private key" when prompted

My usual workflow for external certs is to create a request on a Windows server, rekey the cert from that CSR, Download it and import it onto the server the request was created on. you can then export it as the Cert with Private Key.

Well, that's concerning...it does take a restart to take effect, but if it's nabbing it on boot that's weird. With regards to guidelines...it's a bit changeable and requires a bit of tuning. I normally assign 70% of RAM to SQL and work up or down from there as the app/sql needs dictate.
