I popped into Tescos last night and came away with everything but a cake. Had to go into Oldham later that evening so went to Sainsbury's and came out with 8 tins of tuna and 2 loaves (some Freudian analysis needed here I think ) but no cake. All sorted now though.

About 2 years ago my Orange broadband started going offline at 18:30 to 23:00 most weekdays. I was told it was just me, but as my daughter was then attending the local secondary school across the road she found out that quite a few people in the area were suffering the same problem. I put it down to throttling. I decided to go with Sky as we already had the TV package. The transfer proceeded smoothly and everything was well for about 2 months when my broadband connection failed altogether. To cut a long story short it turns out that Orange had claimed the unbundled line back and it took about a week to sort it out. As I'm doing an online degree you can imagine my panic at all this. I was still getting letters from Orange up to 18 months after all this took place saying they were going to cut me off if I didn't pay my outstanding line rental for the previous 18 months and send in the bailiffs despite being a Sky customer for that period and that they (Orange) sent me an email at the beginning of all this giving me the mac number for the transfer and thanking me for my business and expressing they were sad to see me go. Our network manager had a similar problem. My experience of Orange is that they are not a connected company.

We use all-plastic outdoor (burglar) alarm bell boxes with some holes drilled in them.

Because of limited space I'm restricted to 22"-24" models. I appreciate that bigger would be better, but it just won't fit, having spent some time measuring diagonals in Currys/Comet.

As the title suggests I'm looking for a 22"-24" flat screen tv to replace the old (18-19 years old) crt which has developed a green cast over the past few weeks. I think most new tv's come with Freeview these days so do any of you who have gone through this process lately have any reccommendations? I'm not really looking for HD ready unless they dramatically improve the picture quality of a standard signal. This is going to be a second tv. As I suffer from tinnitus sound quality should also be pretty good, or possibly the ability to add external speakers.

The train I was supposed to have left on developed a fault and we all had to get off before it had even left the platform. I was told to go to platform 4, but I obviously made a mistake as I went to platform 9 and 3 quarters, because as I stood there a huge steam engine pulled in with about a dozen Pullman coaches in tow and everyone inside sitting at fancy little dining tables. I'm seriously thinking of joining Zak on the wagon.* I had gone to the wrong platform tho' so crossed the bridge (the one with the big troll underneath it) and got on the waiting train only to be told to go to platform 2 where the train with the fault had been repaired. So rather than getting home at 20:45 it was nearer 22:00. *I was told that this phrase comes from the days when people were still being executed publicly, and they were generally regarded as family fun days out. As the cart carrying the guards, executioner and his victim left prison to face the axe they would often call in at all the pubs along the way, and they all, except the axeman and the criminal would pop in for a drink or two. One of my worries is who owns all the data? A similar problem has been highlighted with the server farms set up by managed service providers to schools: if they loose the contract to support your school(s) how do you get the data back, what will the cost be, both financial and in terms of school performance? Will there be standards which all (cloud service) providers should adhere to? Following on from that, will you be able to transfer data from one (provider) to another without compromising it?

It's not a question of stripping out the colour, a completely different mindset is required. With digital photography it's simple enough to remove the colour, but judging from some of the posts on here several people once used B&W film, and if you start with the premise that you have no option other than to think in B&W terms you approach your subject matter differently. Eventually you develop a sixth sense about what works in B&W. One of my favourite B&W photographers is Jane Bown, who still works for the Observer. I believe this photograph of Samuel Beckett wouldn't work in colour.

In theory Snap Deploy and Universal Deploy would be the way to go, but I've just spent a couple of days trying to get my head round deploying an image to a machine with identical spec without much success. If I succeed I'll post on here. See this post
