Here is the response! Your inability to edit certain staff records is probably down to the fact that they have a contract that has a Start Date that pre-dates the first Pay Award Date for the Service Term to which the contract is associated with. By adding via Tools | Staff | Pay Related – select a Service Term, a Pay Award Date should resolve this from our experience- our related KB is KB70097. In terms of the number of “default” hours for a Service Term, we discussed this with a large number of LA’s / users but ultimately decided upon 52.143 – the strict calculation. We accept that different schools will have a different number of hours and hence by amending the Service Term hours to be 52 would be the easiest solution. Hope this helps

I repeat my offer to you as well Geoff ~ let me know where you are and I will get someone to talk you through to solve it. Literally 1000's of schools do upgrade everytime without any problems at all.

Stawberry, I can't see that the advice you were given makes sense. If you'd like to email me I will get this checked.

We did have to pull the release as a developer had made an unauthorised change to QuickLetter which meant it wasn't throughly tested. If you did download last night then there is a note on SupportNet to explain what can be done. If your upgrades always fail there is something wrong with your set-up. If you email me with your school details I will get it investigated.

It should not make a difference. If you have speed issues then it is being caused by something else - perhaps anti-virus software.

Any SIMS school can have a SupportNet account FOC.

I can’t imagine one of our service desk people team recommending continuously trying the same thing and am completely confused as to why that might have worked after 5 goes?

You have probably got a problem with the registery - what ever that is! Windows is probably repairing itself back to the wrong state. Sorry I can't help any more but please log a call.

Just a reminder. Any user defined report created in the student focus can be called from the student details screen. This creates a single "report" for the student you are on. This gives you access to all fields. The changes to QuickLetter were made to allow the easy saving of the letter back to the DMS. To start with we couldn't see how to achieve that by using Word but now we have.

We don't test on a 64bit server yet and don't at the moment have a date when we will but it is likely to be this year. Testing on a 64bit server actually doubles our test costs which is a huge commitment. In theory SIMS including FMS should run on a 64 bit server but FMS & NOVA will definately not run on a 64bit client. As said before the installers are likely to object.

It will be May now before .net 2 is required - date has slipped back. .net 3 was suggested as we wanted to avoid visits to workstations at a later stage.

We don't test on 64bit servers yet and haven't announced a date. It probably does work as in theory there should be no difference between the 32 and 64 bit versions but that is not a guarantee. FMS is now on SQL Server so if .net works so will FMS. What definately doesn't work is FMS, NOVA on a 64bit client.

Hoggy we do have some excellent primary users but they aren't likely to be tuned into this site. We produce a magazine called Achievement (Primary) which has lots of examples of how data can be used effectievly in the primary sector. Essentially there is little difference in the way that data can be used in this sector. You can indentify pupils that need help, report to parents, see who your strong teachers are etc. Electronic copies of Achievement are available on CapitaES.CO.UK.

Yes but how would we know that the support unit was intending to release that version to you? LAs quite often chose to skip a version.

In answer to the orginal question - your support unit "releases" versions and patches to you. SOLUS checks the availability of new patches against this database. It then goes to the next stage and checks the suitability of the release to the situation you are in.

You can create a VPN link and run SIMS on teachers' laptops. You can cut and paste. With Learning Gateway you will be able to create Profiles in a browser.

Sometimes I feel like adding a strap line to my posts "There is no conspiracy!" Firstly, of course we support something that we put into our software. What we can't support in this case is what your permission groups actually do because they are unique to you; we can tell you what permission is required to do something. Your local support unit may choose not to support user defined permissions but that is a different matter. Secondly, System Manager is one of our oldest applications we aren't proud of it; it is being re-written and one result will be that the permission matrix will be simpler. This is part of the 2008 plan. Thirdly, if as a result of seeing something on this forum, we alter something we would say so, on this forum. Not change something sneakily as is being suggested here!

I disagree with ittech but then I would wouldn't I! Scottyses, it depends on what you mean by linking MOSS to SIMS. If you want simply to create accounts in AD from pupil, parent and staff data in SIMS then we have a tool that automatically manages this and is a lot cheaper than £4K. If you want web parts that allow teacher, parents and pupils use to SIMS in a browser then yes that is more expensive.
