Is it case sensitive - "Currentversion" versus "CurrentVersion"?? mb

For some reason i can't view the video on my PC - the twirly circle of dots just keeps on spinning Wierd, because iPlayer works fine. Even wierder is if i right-click to pull up the Flash Player "Settings...", the dialogue appears but i can't click on it. Do the same under iPlayer and "Settings..." is fully available. Why, oh why, do the BBC insist on using proprietary technology for a "public" service that we are (almost) forced to pay for? mb

Option 60 tells the client to try to boot from the same machine that it got a DHCP address from but you want it to boot from a different one. Thus try removing Option 60. mb

I got mine done in the local Jessops, although i can't find any mention of it on their web-site. Basically i had two attempts using the booth in the Post Office, both of which were rejected because "my head was too big" even though i couldn't sit any further back from the lens - and they only agreed to refund the cost of one of the sets of pictures Thus i popped around the corner to Jessops and they took a digital photo and confirmed that i was happy with the picture before printing. They also said that if the Post Office checking service weren't happy, they would take another picture for free. IIRC, it was slightly more expensive than the photo booth, but less than a tenner - and you get a real person taking the picture so no holding your breath waiting for the flash timer mb

Well these scammers (international) called me at home earlier tonight Same MO as in the (digitaltoast) YouTube video "is your computer slow", "are you having problems" followed by let me put you through to my supervisor - at which point i hung up. Five minutes later their "technical expert" called me back, only to receive a mouthful from me - but i wish that i had remembered the details of this topic 'cos i would have loved to string them along for half an hour or so Next time :evilgrin: mb

Try to get them in an "ISA wrapper", just in case the ConDems implement silly capital gains taxes - sounds much better prospect than a basic (0.5%?) cash ISA. There is no way that BP will disappear, as quite a bit is owned by the Merkins anyway mb

If (under Firefox) you forbid Google via NoScript you don't get the background. I use AltaVista (the original and best, but then i did used to work for DEC ) and that has a nice, simple, clear search page. mb

I have seen Windows do this. I think that it loads stuff/settings into the volaitile memory on the NIC which remains when the computer is switched off but still plugged in. You need to unplug the mains cable for several seconds to reset things, which is not an ideal thing to do in a room full of PCs. mb

Funny, when i was at school (albeit forty-odd years ago) there were never any problems working out which kids had school dinners. The bottleneck was serving the actual food - how long does it take for a teacher to ask "Sonny, what is your name", "Jenkins Sir", "Thank you Jenkins - on your way!"? Maybe one of the reasons was that every teacher knew pretty much every child in the school, and they didn't have to rely on bar codes and scanners and other technology to do their jobs. Why have cards either? How about giving a child some respect and individual identity - not just treating them as a number? But "bullying" is a bigger problem than stopping someone pinching Johnny's dinner money - he can still get jumped on and have his sweets pinched, or his nice new pencil set broken or whatever. Finger-print scanners won't stop bullying! They have no choice but to do what they are told - the (state) machine says it, so you must do it. No room for negotiation, no room for discussion, no human interaction Also see #7 I am very surprised that you haven't sussed this one out - you are normally pretty sharp on these kinds of things? Certain companies are going to make a very lot of money out of this - and we are talking tens if not hundreds of millions of pounds. Pubs are being "asked" to request ID from anyone who looks under 25 years old at the same time as (state) ID cards are being promoted as they easy way to prove your age. Our houses are being inspected by "the state" when we sell them to check how many CFLs we have fitted and how big our garden is. Our vehicle movements are being tracked continuously and the data held for years Let us hope that the new ConLib agreement on Civil Liberties (see Now I'm happy..) will reverse some of these measures and at the same time simplify (and reduce the costs for) our lives! mb

El Reg curently have an article on this (i.e. new government plans to require parental permission). I am against compulsory fingerprinting (both for children and adults) and one of the comments neatly sums it up for me... mb

PXE-booting should get it's IP from DHCP, but you might want to set Option 60 to "PXEClient" so the client knows to go back to the same machine for the boot image. mb
