Mike, Often you can enable a different resolution for an attached device (e.g. projector) by "extending your Windows desktop" rather than simply "copying" it. I think that PowerPoint is clever and recognised this - thus you can display the "notes" on the laptop and the presentation on the big screen. Why not give it a try and see how other applications cope (e.g. Windows Meeja Player). mb

So you are happy for anonymous users to access your wireless access point, use your bandwidth, on your equipment powered by electricity that you pay for - unless you specifically opt-out? Read some of the comments on the El Reg article for some points to ponder. ...and how would you feel if somebody was accessing illegal content via your broadband? It may be via a separate secure channel, but i am sure that the police would still take a close interest!! mb

What method did you use when you "rebuilt the image"? Fresh install from Stone OEM CD, install from Volume Licence CD, deployed an existing image and tweaked it? The behaviour that you describe sounds like software/virus rather than hardware! mb

Pretty much anything, as you export to a CSV and then upload the file.They specifically mention Outlook, Palm Desktop, ACT!, Mac OS X Address Book, Lotus and something with a blue circle logo and a slanting "Mobius strip"?. As it also includes vCards, so there can be quite a bit of info in there! mb

I don't think that even ISPs can access the blacklist! The IWF install one of their servers at the ISP, and the ISP DNS servers are "tweaked" so that certain domains are routed through the IWF server. The full URL is then checked against the banned list and if it matches access is denied. However, this was often implemented quite badly, leading to a bit of a mess a few months ago - see El Reg for details. Try opening up a CMD window and typing "tracert www.blocked.domain.com" and seeing where the routing goes? mb

FN-GM, When you have registered, there is an option to "Upload your contacts file" - so it sounds like someone who has you in their address book has clicked on that option and leaked your information into their system. My emphasis - so they can give permission for your details to be searched, regardless of what you want Full info here mb

cookie_monster Where did ya get it/how much (if you don't mind me asking)? I bought one just over a week ago from eBuyer for £308 and i am very impressed so far - especially with the battery life and the build quality It is also nice that it doesn't come with loads of pre-installed trial-ware (just McAffee which you can remove quite easily). The only problem so far seems to be the fact that the Samsung software that comes with the NC10 seems to require Administrator rights - so you get an error logging in as a dumb user (under XP Home - anyone else found this). mb

So what happens if BT were to open up, say, your Business Hub so that anyone with an OpenZone account can access your network and internet bandwidth without your permission? Is that illegal? Who is actually breaking the law (BT, the wireless user, you for being an ISP)?? The whole thing is a very grey area with clumsy laws and even clumsier implementation by non-technical people. IMHO, if people at daft enough not to protect their wireless properly then it is their own fault. Maybe if they had a "04:00am big knock on the door" because their IP address had been found to be accessing KP they might start to understand why security is important! mb

salan, As well as checking the various BIOS settings, try some empirical tests... Turn the mains OFF and then ON to a "switched off" (one that has the problem) PC to see it it wakes up. Switch a kettle on (and off) on a socket near to one of the problem PCs - we had one in the office that turned on in the mornings as the kettle boiled! mb
