Sorry to here this Gromit but can't really believe what you have said. Before this years Bet show I had only ever met Tony before and he was the first person i saw on the stand on Friday morning. I was then quickly introduced to people who before that day i had only ever spoken to by email, Pm and the forms. I met Dos Box, AJ Britton and Ric_ (as well as someone else who i cant remember Sorry) These people were very friendly and overwhelmingly enthusiastic about not only Edugeek but also finally being able to put a face to a name. I hope that if you get the chance next year you get to meet some of these fantastic people from Edugeek and get to know them other than from a name on a forum. Sorry Sorry this came out all wrong  I was trying to make a joke but forgot to put the LOL Icon in... Went to your stand but saw you guys were rushed off you feet... Showd my Boss what you were all about and said that your site is a lifesaver... as you can get instaned advice instead of waiting days for "other" people whos products you own.. it was nice to see you guys there and I hope you will be there next year :-).. Sorry about the confusion in my "trying to be " humorous post

we also use pcounter, very useful piece of software for quota management and also setting up ruling such as delete duplicate jobs, delete job if more than x number of pages! I love it when pupils turn up saying they have not been assigned the weekly quote. All i do i run the report feature to show they were! THE LOOK ON THEIR FACES!!!!! Could you please post a linkfor PC Counter .. :0-)

Not really.. because if you do not have the ADMIN rights to CC3 you can do nothing and everything is locked down as CC3 Why spend thousands and thousands of pounds to use CC3 but then use GPO's.. ?!?! you won't because CC3 will control your Network As I said CC3 controls your network where as Ranger is a "Front End" and not as smothering... As said above.. all you are with CC3 is a Technician.. CC3 does everything for you you learn and do nothing.. just babysit CC3..... Bet you use WebMail as well Sorry that you feel that way... But RM is on of the most despised ICT Companies in the UK... They take all the Skill and Professionalism out of being a Network Manger. I am a CCNP, MCSA and MCSE certified and can run, configure, expand my skill set and maintain a Network.. but with CC3 all I can do is Molly Coddle.... But maybe CC3 is a good thing as it seems 80% of the Schools will be CC3 with the BSF rollout...

Has it been announced Yet ?

Benifits of Ranger Remote access to home folders Web-based management of users, machines, printers and GPOs Print quotas Web-based resources area Very easy to lock down security (can't run EXEs, can't go to C drive etc) Easy to (re)build workstations onto the network (+ imaging) Plus easy to control, easy to take off, monitor all users logged on Aslo with Ranger you have a Vanilla XP network so therefore you aren't dumbing down your Skillset and only can get job with RM

Whats the diffrence between replacing a mirrored HDD to replacing a single disk in a RAID 5 array ? They both give you redundancy...
-
In our area all the Academies are being Outsourced (old and new)..... If they want the BSF funding they have to accept the Managed Services for 5 years... and the staff will be downgraded and TUPE'd
-
So is windows RAID OK for Mirroring .. as thats all I want to do... If disk fails goto other Disk.. but I have been told Windows RAID is rubbish Can't rebuld the servers as they are the SIMS server and andothe Database Server and would take days...
-
We also hate the Digital Brain Our Borough is chosing a VLE supplier that they hope the schools will adopt borough wide.. I'll tell you what it is when we are told

Hi when I purchased 2 DELL servers a year or so back we did not have the finances to buy the Hardware RAID.. Each Server has 2 SATA 120gb disks in I have been told the Windows RAID is not as good as Hardware RAID.. How simple is it to buy the RAID controller and install it in the server to Mirror the HardDrive? Would it just be plug and play (make sure 1 hdd is empty) and activate the RAID controller in the BIOS ?

urgent pls help on merging the network together

1/ what are the IP and subnet masks of both Domains (we need the bigger SNM) 2/ Are the Domains physically linked ? The rest should be easy.. As you take the biggest IP range and make that your "New" main Domain.. You DCPromo your "old" Servers and add them to the New domain and then take off and add your workstations to the "New" Domain.. I would assume that you admin domin would be the one to go.. Where I SIMS.. you might have to reinstall SIMS again as if the mapping is to the defunct Admin newwork then your paths will be wrong.. I think thats right.... or am I ;-) As for the remote access.. You do not need Linux as Server 2003 comes with Remote Access or Terminal Services .. Or you cold use 3rd Party Software like Ranger Outpost -
I really hope you have a backup! That's the way that I'd do it. I'd still be trying to steer away from anything to do with the network when you've got huge files. It's slow for everyone. Ta...I think I'll buy 5 laptops for media and they can play on them :-) as somesaid above it will affect the network traffic

Dell or Mesh mate.... the rest aren't worh the hassle..... with Dell and Mesh you get good support and therefore wont be harrased by the Staff member if it goes wrong..,.

Then I would I have to edit the logon bat file to map the folder ?
-
Thanks for the tip about local storage..... The problem is that the teachers are dumping Program CD's like Exam Wizard onto their own space... and then giving it to thier mates to do the same... How would I be able to get a few students to access the local store if a class of 20 need to edit thier Camcorder dumps ?
-
Hi What is the most that a teacher should have in their home folders... As I have 1 Staff Member thats on 8gb. thats a media teacher before they have even started downloading video from the Camcorders.. (sorta dumped his entire last school onto the server) And I have the Maths Department 5 users on 5gb Each..... Is this taking the Mick or is this normal ?
