  1. I have said it so many times, STONE STONE STONE, These IT manufacturer and solutions provider to the Public Sector | Stone Group With These IT manufacturer and solutions provider to the Public Sector | Stone Group With 5 year warranty, the most you will ever need to do is install a bit of software and fill in a web form for hardware failure. We have about 180 different age ITX space-savers now from the last 3 years and have had about 10 support calls for all of them, next day on site fixed by an engineer who knows what he is doing!
  2. Really like that idea, totally stolen!
  3. If I get the problem I just map a network drive to wherever the location, for example if I am accessing N:\pupils\year11\student\longnameblah blah\ I would map a new network drive to wherever N is and then pupils\year11\student, which shortens the path, then delete or rename to my hearts content. OH, and I make sure to give the kid a kick next time I see them
  4. Application deployment = SCCM 2007 & Microsoft Application Virtualisation OS Deployment = MDT 2012 Print Management = Equitrac (Ricoh) Backup = Microsoft DPM & Backup Exec Desktop Start Menu creation = Custom script Anti Virus = McAfee
  5. Thanks, I had been trying something similar using just group policy, bit of a pain in the rear so this is quite cool, I will still need to add some shortcuts using group policy though for programs that aren't installed on every machine. EDIT: Just actually read the script to see it does this itself, even better
  6. Out of interest, when does that script run? I assume applied by GPO on logon or startup?
  7. Will watch that thread, when you run the installer you have the option to "Create Deployment" which looks certainly aimed at bulk deployment on the education software.
  8. Hi, We had a new build in 2009 and aren't at 1to1 devices yet but are looking into it. We do have a fully managed ricoh print sollution with follow-me printing which means any user can send a print to a virtual queue and collect it from any of our 20-ish MFD's. We are always happy for visitors if you want to drop me a PM? Sam
  9. Couldn't recommend stone laptops highly enough, we buy with a 3 year warranty which is next day on site including mains adapter and battery. Top hardware at a reasonable price, also their small form factor desktops are worth a good look. IT manufacturer and solutions provider to the Public Sector | Stone Group
  10. We use lexia, Free Lexia Font Download free and many students have reported struggling less reading powerpoint presentations and handouts using this font, so it does work. otf may be slightly different but deploy ttf this is the process by group policy Copy the file from a network share to c:\windows\fonts\ Create a registry string in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts with the font name (Lexia (TrueType)) and the exact file name (case sensitive)
  11. I think it is probably the picture of obama? Just for info, we use websense provided by our LEA, and get the same results which are very good compared to what could turn up. All students have smart phones with 3g anyway if they want to get these images they will.
  12. We went through the upgrade, our live@edu accounts were all manually created and luckily for us not in use, as when we setup dirsync on office365 we had duplicate accounts and all kinds of conflicts and issues. We don't use SSO or shiboleth so I cant help there I am afraid, but having used both the upgrade to 365 is worth it in the long run, even if you are tearing your hair out for a few weeks.
  13. I had this issue, but it was just one user on one certain machine. re-image the laptop and they were fine, a bit of a sledge hammer but it works!
  14. I have never used kindles in a work environment but for my own at home I find this util very handy, could be useful in a school too? The Kindle Collection Manager. The Windows app for your Kindle
  15. Just spent a good 5 minutes laughing at what could actually happen "I can ping it, but why arent my shares showing?????"
  16. Depends on your needs, if you want to connect online to anybody that may ring up and want help, http://join.me is brilliant! If you want to connect to machines online when the user is AFK, the normal version of logmein is pretty good. If it is solely in a LAN environment you wont need anything as technical and ideally which doesn't rely on internet access. We use Microsoft Remote assistance for all windows clients, obviously doesn't really suit your needs, a simple VNC solution may do the trick?
  17. I was just thinking as a troubleshooting step
  18. Hey, I wrote an entire piece of user management software which links into sims, user accounts are automatically created and disabled for students as they are taken on and off role, same for staff. It took about 3 weeks of my time to code but now its running we never have the "has a user account been setup" worry again. Also creates home folders and sets ownership and permissions, and moves home folders of users who have left
  19. I will see if I can get my hands on one of our staff laptops later and work out the access rights on them and post back. To be honest I have a feeling users are local administrators on the laptops. Anybody tried disabling UAC?
  20. We dont have this issue, we have quite lenient access policies for staff laptops, try and find the sibelius keys in the registry and grant access to staff, should at least help with the problem
  21. We nearly used something related to house, turns out the students change every 5 minutes anyway!
  22. We use yearof entry first initial surname, for example Joe Bloggs this year was 12JBloggs duplicates just get a number on the end, not elegant but they have full name is display name and home folder path so it is obvious if they use the wrong account on a duplicate, which has happened once in our current 7 year groups of 150+
  23. me too please
  24. If you use WDS you have to import the new boot.iso into the wds management panel, otherwise it still uses the old one. Also on changing passwords I have found the images still fail when trying to logon to install apps if you have a different local administrator password to the one you setup the task sequence with.
