Hi Getting up-to-date (ish) with Dreamweaver. Want to use a SQL Server 2005 as the source but when I try and configure a ODBC DSN, I get Error 404. The ISS service is running on the remote server and I have configured the correct port. Does anyone know the correct syntax of a MMHTTPDB.asp connection string? The string works fine from external VB (eg Provider= etc etc) but I can't seem to get the script right in VBS with ASP. Please note the server has to addressed with an ip address.

current server has following services: file server print server App server terminal server domain controller DNS DHCP

have a new(ish) server. would like to move all the data from the old server onto the new one - DNS etc. is there a guide as messing around with DNS is not a pleasant experience. Microsoft ones are all about moving from 2003 to 2008 - any suggestions please! as an idea can i leave the old server just doing DNS and move all other functions (DHCP, print manager, SQL, mail and domain storage) to the net server

Thanks for the replies VPN's seem a backward step, used them before TS. And, if the previous solution does not work with SQL / SIMS users will soon get fed up swithcing around. Think I will lock down SITE2 clients and use TS

thanks for the replies thus far. Site 1 = (local) domain with 2003 server. Site 2 = stand-alone machines, ethernet etc but no domain. I 'disuade' users from loggin in locally on their machines on SITE1 so they use the network. SITE2 are even more prone to need help. Ideally clients on SITE2 boot local OS then looks for the DC (via the internet remote on SITE1), gets authentification etc and then loads like it was on SITE1. Is there a way, I guess it might involve a way calling for authentication through the gateway shortly after POST / BOOT or similar. Or should I try and make SITE2 clinets as thin as possible, locally lock down their accounts and stick a run TS after general logon ...

I have to connect two LAN's so they are 'one' - trouble is that are in different geographical loactions. I use Terminal Server at the moment, is there a better way?

I used a commercial product for a year and found it very 'ok' espcially for the price. A student did manage to get porn - even thought the site itself was full of 'xxx porn' tags etc. Phones the company and they said ' these things happen - we will look into it...'. Two months later the same thing happened - Head was v.unimpressed and had an independent advisor to look at the setup. He noted I had done everything right but once again it did not do its job. Took the smoothwall and bloxx for trials. Both OK but also activated the content filter on the router. The latter was very effective and no cost (other than the router's purchase which was below 200 quid). Beside the reporting which, to me is not too difficult to do on the client machine's history, why do schools bother with these expensive devices?

used to use access but migrated to sql server - much better. can have a look if it would help
