Hi, I need to rip our school video from DVD to Flash for use on our website. In the past, I've used a program called Flash DVD Ripper (http://www.dvd-ripper.com) to convert the DVD to MPEG, and then Adobe Flash CS3 Video Encoder to convert the MPEG to FLV and then Adobe Flash CS3 Professional to stick play, volume controls etc on it. I've always ended up with really low quality results which always come from the Flash DVD Ripper program. Google is absolutely no help in suggesting better alternatives because it just lists similar shareware programs that are probably just as bad, so what do people use? In short, what's the best way to make a high quality rip from DVD to FLV? Cheers.

I use AllVideosReloaded, and I know that it conflicts with the slideshow. The worst I get is an 'error on page' message on IE8, but it might be worth disabling some of your JavaScript based modules and using trial and error to see if something else is messing it up?

I get that error for my site too. For me, it's from the html I use to centre the highslide slideshow on each of my news items, but I'm not sure of a way around it (or at least haven't investigated it properly yet). I've never seen the Clean-up Messy Code icon, although I use JCE rather than the default TinyMCE. It might be worth a try, as long as you back up what you have there currently beforehand (easiest method is just to copy and paste it into Notepad, and then copy and paste it back into the editor when everything goes wrong).

It depends. What errors does it give you? HTML Tidy wouldn't be much use for a Joomla site as there'll be a lot of server side processing. I'd only ever use it to tidy up a static html page, and even then there's always the chance that it'll send your website all over the place.

What's in the alt tags is largely irrelevant. Alt tags are only used to replace the image in the event of it not being loaded or not found, and as mouse over text For SEO and accessibility purposes, it should be a short description of what that image is. However, you could put any old nonsense between the inverted commas and it wouldn't make a difference as to whether it works or not. It might be worth removing the alt="blahblah" bits entirely while you're trying to get your head around it.

Have you made sure that TinyMCE is disabled (as well as JCE enabled, obviously) in Extensions > Plugin Manager?

In your admin panel, you need to go to Extensions > Module Manager, and click on the name of that particular menu module (likely to be 'Curriculum Menu'). You can then change the title under the 'details' section, or choose not to show it at all. Hope that helps.

Try again tomorrow, maybe. I've noticed a couple of issues since it went live literally half an hour ago (like the 'error on page' in IE, although I know what's causing that and will fix it tomorrow), but do your worst - I'm open to constructive criticism. A big thanks to all involved in creating the EduGeek Package, and to anybody who's offered support on here since I started it back in January.

Does anybody use the GavickPro News Highlighter GK1 plugin? If so, have you managed to configure it to display news from multiple sections and categories? I've entered comma separated section/category IDs into the parameters, but the ticker displays nothing. The only way I can get anything to work is to select ONE section and/or category from the drop down boxes, but I really need it to show headlines from my Junior School AND Senior School sections. After 10 months of hard work, it's one of the few things that's stopping me from pressing the big button that'll make my site go live. So frustrating... Thanks!

I've completely redesigned my menus a lot since I first posted in February, but to get your alignment right you need to fiddle with the first and last numbers in the following in suffix.css: #topmenu ul li ul ul { margin: -40px 0 0 16em; } What you need to change them to will depend on any other alterations you've made to the design of your menus (such as the width of each column), but with a bit of experimentation you'll see what's what. Without a doubt the best school website I've seen on here. I haven't delved in much deeper than the first page, but it creates a fabulous first impression. I love the menu - really simple and concise. I love the little (0) next to the Jobs link - simple, but saves a click. Only gripe? "FAQ's" doesn't need an apostrophe, but that's just me being a pedant. I've developed 'content' sites using WordPress in the past and it's great. With a bit of tweaking, it can be as flexible as Joomla - and it's certainly more user friendly.

Thanks for all of your help. The reaction was very positive, with the only opposition coming from someone who was worried that if the account details were given to a number of members of staff (as is the plan), then we would somehow want to 'proof' tweets before they are sent as the spelling and grammar of some leaves a lot to be desired - a very valid point. Looks like we'll be using it in conjunction with our new website though, which is great news.
