Adobe Premiere Pro & OneDrive
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Cloud Services
I thought as much, how do you do this? do you just not use iamcloud for premiere pro users? Thanks -
Hi all, This is a very bespoke issue so I'm unsure if anyone would have come across it, but thought i'd ask! So we use IAMcloud to map our students/staff home folders to Onedrive. It's a great tool but we have come across an issue whereby Premiere Pro will not load the preferences as a result. If you open premiere pro before IAMcloud maps, it opens. Once IAMcloud maps the folders, it stops working and says the user data cannot be loaded. Has anyone come across this issue? is there a way to move the preferences or anything to that effect? Thanks Chris

Embedding a PDF Object in Excel
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Office Software
I wish I could say Idea 1! lol, every establishment has 'that' staff member - she is ours! The issue is that these documents are sent to external clients, who may or may not have acrobat! - - - Updated - - - Agreed, I suppose all I can really do is suggest she doesn't make work related documents on her personal laptop and uses her work issued one. Thanks! -
Embedding a PDF Object in Excel

Honestly, I'm not sure! it is the finance manager and she is very particular, removing acrobat is absolutely not an option and this is how she MUST do things! Lol. -
Embedding a PDF Object in Excel
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Office Software
Thanks for your response! we did change the default app that PDF's open with to edge, but it still happens. Do you know if there are some other extensions it uses that we may need to change? Chris -
Hi all, One of our staff is using their personal laptop and O365 to create excel docs. Their laptop has Adobe Acrobat Reader installed and when they embed a PDF object in Excel, rather than it embedding as a 'shell object' it embeds as an 'Acrobat PDF Document' If you then open these docs on a machine without Acrobat, the pdf fails to open. We cannot seem to find a way to force Excel to embed as a shell object with Acrobat installed. We have disabled the add in, changed the default PDF reader; all to no avail. Has anyone got any ideas? (uninstalling acrobat is not an option) Thanks as always!

Hi all, Windows 11 has been working flawlessly for me apart from one issue... I can't get it to license correctly! If ever I assign a Windows 11 KMS Education key for licensing, it just licenses as Workstation Pro which I don't want. The MAK key for Edu works great. How have you all got your KMS licensing working on Win11? I first tried to install the KMS key to the KMS Host but received a 'key blocked' error, I then ran the slmgr /ipk *insert key* in a batch file on the client and it licenses... but as Pro not Edu. Help! Many thanks

Hi there, For some reason we have an issue that appears to be getting worse - Chrome predominantly is reporting that it is 'out of date' when it isn't. Admin users don't get the error. Any ideas? Thanks very much!

Microsoft Edge - Remove First Run
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Windows 11
I spent all this time faffing with reg keys and the GPO policy worked as mentioned above, I guess I jumped the gun and assumed Microsoft would make it impossible! -
Hi All, After a few weeks of pain, our Windows 11 build seems to now deploy and work pretty well. Bit of a backwards way of doing it, but MDT installs the ISO instead of a customised WIM and then all our applications are deployed to the Win 11 OU via GPO's. This is the ONLY way I could get Win 11 to deploy. The one gripe I am having is with Microsoft Edge. I have tried a few reg keys but to no avail as of yet. Has anyone managed to remove the painfully annoying first run screen? I do not want students to have to run through all the rigmarole before they can use their browser. Many thanks

Printer always printing duplex upside down
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Windows 10
Strangely it’s happening to every printer of that model on our site, we have about 5/6 of them, some plugged in via Ethernet some via USB, so it’s not specifically related to the print spooler. I’m wondering if it’s a bug with the driver itself but seems odd!- 8 replies

Printer always printing duplex upside down
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Windows 10
Hi there thanks for your response, I have checked the printer preferences on the printer directly and it shows the correct model on the driver and all the advanced settings, so looks like the right one! No idea why it’s happening Thank you- 8 replies

Hi there, We have some Brother L3550cdw printers across the site and there is an issue that spans all of them. No matter which options we select for duplex, the page is flipped incorrectly on the opposite side and thus is upside down. The official driver is installed, we have all the advanced options and the print is set to duplex long edge. Does anyone know why this could be happening as we are stumped! - this happens both if we use the printer via network or directly connected. Thanks Chris

Hi all, Since certain manufacturers removed Legacy Boot support, has anyone found an alternative to resolve unrecognised/unbootable SSD's? we want to swap an SSD with a built one into a new Lenovo Thinkcentre m60e, but the SSD is unrecognised. Usually we would just rebuild the OS on to the M.2 in the device but the amount of bespoke software on this disk, we'd rather not! Any advice would be much obliged. Many thanks

SAN switches both dropped at same time
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Wired Networks
All the uptimes of all the equipment are still over 90 days. The switch connected to one of the SAN's lost some but not all of it's config (it's a Ubiquiti so auto saves so no chance of it not being saved) Essentially the SAN's have reported that they both lost connection to each other at exactly the same time, meaning the failover clustering tried to kick in and failed, which has caused issues with disk IO. I am incredibly stumped. Nothing actually powered off, it seems to be a network issues on the Ubiquiti switch, but the unifi panel is reporting no alerts for that switch and no indicator of an issue. All the sockets are surge protected also. I really have no idea what happened! I have been looking into it all day.- 15 replies

SAN switches both dropped at same time
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Wired Networks
The ones plugged into the NVR stayed up, all the others went down, but what we have discovered is that the access switch that they are plugged into that has all the VLAN tagging, lost it’s configuration so we have had to reconfigure all the VLAN tagging for the cameras and they have now come back up. The SAN is a HPE MSA 2050, the san switches are plugged into each other via Ethernet and into the SAN via fiber.- 15 replies

SAN switches both dropped at same time
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Wired Networks
That’s what we are thinking as a lot of the equipment that failed are unrelated to each other, and so it doesn’t make sense to be an issue between them. Interestingly, we do have a UPS and this didn’t show any signs of the battery having been depleted at all so if doesn’t appear to have had to kick in.- 15 replies

SAN switches both dropped at same time
cdwyersandysecondary replied to cdwyersandysecondary's topic in Wired Networks
We have HP Proliant DL380's. The odd thing is that the cameras stopped working too, servers I can understand if the connection to the disks were lost and so the VM's were playing up, but the cameras don't rely on any VM's, they are just cabled to various switches and some back to the NVR, indicating there must have been a networking issue somewhere too! but both the two stacked cores and two stacked access switches in the server room have an uptime of longer than yesterday, so none of these went down! very confused.- 15 replies

Hi guys, Bit stumped, wondered if anyone has any ideas. Yesterday at around 2:30pm, both our SAN switches lost connection to the SAN. Hyper-V tried to failover but because the connection to the SAN was lost, we were flooded with disk IO errors and most the servers seem to have corrupted, not to the point they are completed screwed, they did come back up... but enough that we are having an absolute world of issues this morning, I have had to restart all the VM's and they were running disk checks, clearing entries for corrupt files. What is confusing me is that most the machines lost connection to the network as well as our cameras back to the NVR we have. Initially before I discovered the SAN was having a fit, I thought one of our access switches in the server room had gone awry, but the SAN switches are directly plugged into the SAN so how did they also lose connection (apologies if I sound dim here and am missing something, I am fairly new to delving into the technicalities of SAN storage) Does this sound like a power issue? a switch issue? a cabling issue? am I potentially missing something? - head full of questions! I do not want this to happen again, obviously, so am trying to work out what on earth happened! Many thanks

Office 365 & Microsoft Authenticator
cdwyersandysecondary posted a topic in Learning Network Manager
Hi all, We have just migrated to O365 from Exchange 2016 (Way overdue) bit of background, I took over a destitute IT system just over a year ago. Almost nothing configured, redirected folders barely working (most, including SLT!!!!, were saving to local desktop/documents etc. A lot has changed over the past year and staff have on occasion been reluctant to change, this was expected as I basically fort knoxed the system after 12 years of them having essentially complete freedom and no restrictions. We are trying to adhere to Microsoft's Cyber Essentials and thus with the heads go ahead, have told staff Microsoft Authenticator will be required as of next week. As you can imagine, staff are not happy with the idea of using their phones to authenticate their work emails. My question is, has anybody else experienced this push back from staff and how have you managed it? How have you found Authenticator to work in this kind of environment? Thanks!- 9 replies
