Thank you! That was exactly my problem - managed to get it sorted by downloading Apple Configurator on my phone and signing in with the managed Apple ID and adding the device from there. I managed to save the blueprints from the old mac before it died, need to figure out tomorrow how to import them and set up the certificate and other bits!

Hi all, The mac I had in my office died during the heatwave, a new one was purchased and I've set it up, gone to install Apple Configurator and I get the error that I can use the app store as the apple ID is associated with Apple School Manager. The other error I get is that the Apple ID is blocked from making purchases. I can't quite think of the right term to google for this, as I just keep to be going round in circles. We never used anything but Apple Configurator and I'm getting twitchy as they've requested the iPads for the inset days next week as we have external trainers coming in!

Thankfully I have their windows a/c and emails ready. It’s just their HWB accounts aren’t created until Wednesday and I was asked to hold them into everything was done so I don’t have to drip feed login credentials to tutors. In previous years accounts were always handed out at the end of the first week. I just wasn’t made aware that they wanted everything on the first day.

I’ve got all the year 7 cohort created and file storage set up, when do you distribute them out?

Hi all, I’ve had a bit of a clash with a new teacher over new accounts for the new year 7 pupils. Previously we’ve always created their PC logins right at the start of the academic year, once they’re on-boarded in our MIS, their Minecraft & Adobe accounts are created by a scheduled task and then their credentials are shared with the form tutors to distribute. This usually means everything is done within the first week of term, however the new teacher has complained to their head of department that they could not complete their first lesson on the PCs on the very first day back. How do you do on-boarding for new cohort?

After a full exam season of using ExamWritePad, I second my post above and utterly recommend it. I didn't have time to play around with GPO's this season and it completely saved my bacon. I just set my laptops up as normal and installed ExamWritePad, gave the Exam Officer a run through along with how to print, try to get out of it, etc) and it has been perfect. The backup frequency has worked a treat, prevented any anxiety ridden self-sabotage with the delete key near the end of the exam.

I've taken to giving my users a little freedom, I've preinstalled programs in the PC suites that are definitely required for the curriculum (Dreamweaver, Animate, Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop) but on pupil & staff laptops I've only deployed Creative Cloud app, they can select any app and install it themselves on their laptops (they just launch Creative Cloud app, login with their HWB accounts and click install next to any of the apps)

If your deployed package hangs, try removing XD and allow users to install that themselves. Caused no-end of issues trying to build it into a package. My users can install and uninstall different programs within the cloud app without admin rights, they can update if they wish. I was advised against setting up the remote update manager as it was "a ballache". Then again a year ago I wasn't in a position to play around with it, I needed to get it deployed asap.

Definitely recommend it, I've only set up some laptops as normal with no restrictions, cleared the desktop of any shortcuts apart from ExamWritePad and set it to open fullscreen mode. Only myself and the Exam Officer have the password to remove the full screen mode. Working brilliantly! I'm just a bit fed up of people not thinking about the IT Provision at any point during the planning, apart from at the last minute. However, ExamWritePad made me look super pro/on the ball this year (this post is not a sponsored ad!)

All helps if your exam officer actually communicates, they think a phone call 5 mins before the exam is good! I’ve asked for a timetable of exams and numbers of laptops required for each one. I’ve configured the json file for the year 10/11s but none of the year 12/13 have needed them this year.

Would just like to thank you for suggesting ExamWritePad. Completely saved my bacon this week. I just set up as normal laptops with Papercut MF and the exam officer and SLT approved them. Going to see the exam officer tomorrow and set up form 2 and form 4 tomorrow which will make him very happy!

Do you guys remove all the windows apps, such as solitaire, Skype, calculator etc? Only reason I ask, the elevated powershell command: Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers (I’ve probably typed it out wrong, but I’ve spent all day on it) Has stopped working, we’re on Windows 10 22H2. I also had a text file for all the registry entries to prevent it re-deploying with a windows update. Had it working before I went on leave for a week! Driving me up the wall, leave the pupils and inch and they’ll be playing solitaire offline in the exam given a chance [emoji102]

Following this, as I'm just in the process of going through our exam laptops. Edge seems to have been able to sneak itself on my Exam Laptops and is fully accessible and working Spent the afternoon trying to disable it.

It's devious what they're doing, ESS rang the office the other morning asking to speak to the Head. I took the call from the receptionist, but they were being pretty pushy.

Makes me think I need to get in touch with my LA tomorrow, we’ve already had confirmation that they want us to stay out of contract. I know of one HeadTeacher who’s selected the wrong box and ESS are refusing to let them out of it.

Ah in Wales, they’re supplied by the LA, HWB & Welsh Government. In hindsight, not that helpful!

First I had no notice from the LA that our Adobe order was being fulfilled, found out at the start of September it was ready (I’m a first time NM and just discovering how schools and LA work together) ended up on a man hunt trying to find someone able to grant access to the admin portal. Making select packages wasn’t working as XD caused the whole package to uninstall itself. Managed to sort it out by downloading precreated packages built by Adobe for each program separately and building a custom package for deployment with PDQ. Animate would crash when loading the workspace. Thought it was a software restriction, ended up treating a machine in an OU with no GPO’s and it was still having issues. It was working for admin profiles. Turned out it wasn’t the profiles that were the issue, I had assumed it was something to do with Appdata and relocated folders as it was having troubles with writing files to the documents folder. It was permissions on the file server. Finally coming out the other-side in one piece. I don’t mean for it to sound like a complaint but it’s been a baptism of hellfire. The last couple of weeks have been long days and late evenings rebuilding everything, whilst trying to firefight ongoing issues left by a predecessor who left only 50% of the passwords and zero documentation, whilst trying to figure out how this network is set up. Not forgetting they’re currently recruiting for a technician for the primaries, so I’ve been covering them too. I need to flatten it and do my own setup but that’s for the future at some point. There’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel!

Did anything ever come of this? I've been working solo since July, it's been pretty lonely ...

We've gone with Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Animate for the Digital Technology NEA. However, Animate was a complete b*tch to get working.

Exactly the same issues and process I've gone through with regards to the home drive folders! In hindsight, because everything looked fine it left me going in circles believing the issue was elsewhere. Cue miffed IT teacher because it's taken me so long All the home drives have been copied to a new directory and Tuesday I'll be repointing them to their new locations. Fingers crossed there's no more hiccups. That reminds me, I need to send a reminder email that this is happening on Tuesday.
