K, I use MDT on its own so apologies if this isn't quite there... Capture the station using the capture media. Import the WIM into MDT, or add it so you can use it in SCCM to deploy In the task sequence window on MDT there is a 3rd tab on the top of the Window which you can edit the unattend.xml which is used, add copyprofile to that xml file. When deploying the new image it should copy the admin profile over the default profile in the image and it should be ok... Personally I am not sure why MS can't just make a normal tool which takes 5 mins over this method which admittedly takes ages!

You add copyprofile to the unattend on the image being deployed so thats fine. Customise the Administrator profile, and ensure that the local admin is the last login which is used on the station (otherwise copyprofile will copy the wrong profile to default)

Yeah so in the task sequence editor, customize the unattend.XML file (it does use the AIK here and MDT isn't required as such, but it makes the editing process easier) The process is described here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc748953(v=ws.10).aspx Basically what I would do is use a deploy and capture sequence and pause the deployment just before MDT does the capture. Customize the profile as you want and resume and capture the image. The resulting profile is complete and should work correctly. Its the unattend.XML which needs editing. Have you integrated MDT and SCCM?

True, however I am guessing we are talking about a school here? When budgets are getting tightened I really don't see the need for expenditure like that, get the switches working first, get some decent end user hardware and some decent servers (obviously protected by UPS there!) and go from there, if there is money left look at the nice to haves.

I would say a UPS on each edge switch is a waste of time! imagine the battery replacement cycle on that!

Not that it matters, none of ours are ever plugged in! Plus we only have 100mb to the user so it wouldn't make any difference With N make sure it can handle the A and G radio ranges, ie 5GHz and 2.4GHz. Some radios only support one of the ranges.

I would say I3, we are completely I3 here and don't notice any slow performance. In terms of OS upgrades? What OS is that? Windows 8? Don't think so!

Are these machines updated? Windows update would usually pick up any new root certs, this one is signed by verisign which should be a globally trusted certificate in the OS itself.

Is it working now? I have never heard of a problem with OS installation with MDT. Was the MDT image built from the CD or did you import a custom image? We install with no key, it contacts the KMS by itself and works no issues on all hardware (assuming the drivers are imported).

I've never come across an issue with using a KMS key and activation. Those client keys you see on that website are the exact keys which are embedded into the various OS variants by default so there is no need to change them for KMS. How are you imaging the stations? Have you reached a rearm limit?

Have you got EES for volume licencing?

You shouldn't need to enter a key when isntalling Windows 7 with KMS the standard key which is embedded in all the Pro and enterprise versions will automatically look to a KMS by default.

Are you using MAC keys or a volume key? Just wondering if you have reached your mac key limit?

We are looking at using RES Workspace Manager Express for that, seems to be pretty reliable on the test environment I have going at the moment.

What do you need to configure on IIS? Are you sure it has installed the whole role and not just a subset?

The thing people enjoy with consoles is knowing that if they buy the game which says xbox 360, they will know they can play it as was intended by the developers. If they create a fragmented environment then it will effectively be PC gaming. Not that I mind that, I prefer PC gaming to consoles as I can't get on with a controller for the majority of games!

By default even a layer 3 device won't let multicast or broadcast traverse VLANs. Broadcast is done with a IPHelper address usually and multicast requires some PIM setup to traverse the VLANs.

Yup so the 3 pound headsets which get pounded and broken regularly get replaced by 15 pound USB headsets? It didn't go down well this end! The audio redirection in PCoIP is unsupported technically, you have to install a teradici audio driver which we found to be ok but not 100%. The USB audio, as you said, which is the preferred VDI method works well though.

I totally understand that! But is it maintainable? When you leave can someone pick it up? Etc etc. If you are just one person, can you manage configuring every access point as the network grows? Its not being pedantic is being prepared/realistic. There is only so much one person can do! We have nearly 60 access points covering our school, if I had to make a single changed on all of those it would take half a day!

The bit about video/audio is exactly why it suits business but not so much education. Students have to watch video as part of lessons, and audio recording is a necessity. If all they did was browse the internet it would be ok, but I am still not convinced about scrolling speed, it just wasn't the same!! James

Isn't the whole idea pretty fruitless if the infrastructure isn't there to back it up? It might work now but there is only so much tape which can be used to fix things! Best thing to do would be to present solutions to SLT and let them know its all possible but *this* is the cost etc etc.

The virtual PCs have a set of virtual hardware, so it doesn't emulate your current hardware at all. It is usually generic, well known hardware which has high compatibility but may also be specific to the VM for example VMware make available some VMnic network cards to the virtual machine which are tailored for VM use. Past the network card you usually can't specify any particular hardware types.
