MDT in essence is just a bunch of scripts in a folder! A file server should be fine for that, as its an imaging system the usage pattern for network traffic is very sporadic and shouldn't interfere with the day to day running of the file server. I think you can test it on a Windows 7 station if you want to get a handle over the product before you commit.

MDT is FAR more configurable than WDS and still free Doesn't require that much, have it running on 2008r2 with a dual core and 1 NIC, it doesn't need to be on its own, you can set it up using PXE but it isn't a requirement. I set ours up in parallel while we still were running Ghost, which used PXE, once it was set up I switched over to MDT PXE and had no problems. We have a single image which is deployed across site, to all stations regardless of hardware types etc. V handy tool.

Getting very confused here, you started off asking for HTML5 and now you are looking at downloading and playing in the default media player?

HTML5 embeds are like youtube style, aren't you just opening yourself up to disk space issues when users right click and download the videos?

Embedding video is VERY different to linking to videos. Linking is very 1990s.... HTML5 allows streaming and much better bandwidth management.

I can recommend SCCM for application deployment, I originally found 2007 to be a bit annoying for PXE booting as the handling of 'unknown' clients is an absolute dogs dinner. We have SCCM set up just for app deployment atm, using MDT for the station imaging as its far more reliable for us currently. I'm sure 2012 has some good things with PXE though, its a huge improvement over 2007.

I think the norm is to do it in 3 formats: Video - Dive Into HTML5 This article explains it really well, tis a bit long but mostly goes through using handbrake or other converting software to do the conversion for you into the 3 formats required to give 100% (haha well ok 100% ish) browser compatability.

Use a Windows 7 machine which is joined to the domain, it is far easier!

Where are you running Bulk AD users from? Try it from your workstation, works on my Windows 7 station

Folder redirection is so slow on Windows 7, on ours it takes 5 secs per different share it connects to. That's what came out in my testing anyway

In the wireless settings in group policy. Edit the network SSID you are connecting to, then in 802.1x tab choose settings and there should be a validate server certificate listed in the optinos, just untick for testing.

Hehe I love error codes!! Did you turn off certificate validation? It will only check for a valid domain password then.

MS-CHAP is fine, just requires the server certificate to be trusted on the machine if you have validation on. Did you mean you have it turned on atm? Turn it off for a sec to test, if it works then its at least narrowed it down to this!

Are you using MS-CHAP? Tis worth double checking the certificates for clients and servers. You can tick a box somewhere in the settings to not validate the server certificate for testing, if that works then that points to a non trusted certificate in your infrastructure.

FFADO is SO difficult to set up though, I really can't be bothered with things breaking after an OS update either, if it doesn't work well in stock Ubuntu or Mint then I usually didn't bother. Oooo I didn't realise it was all go with Steam for Linux! I'll check out that MediaPortal as well, gonna have to make some more time, got a baby on the way in -4 days!!! (overdue! )

I would really be looking into Linux if it worked with my soundcard bought a Moto 828MKII a long time ago when I did audio production, Motu are really against Linux so will never produce a compatible driver Will be interesting to see if Valve do Steam for linux or just stick to their 'console' idea. I hope the linux steam games do go well, it would really push me away from Windows for home use, same with the Media center though, I use it a LOT, havent used the linux variants yet. Got WMC recording the Mentalist. Can't be doing with missing that!

That method isn't supported anymore, you have to (for Windows 7) install Windows 7 to a station, customise the admin profile, then sysprep the image. THEN when you deploy the image set the copyprofile=true property in the sysprep XML file.

Which techniques did you use? I am not sure what the methods are in Windows 8, the only supported Windows 7 method was copying the default profile from a sysprepped installation.

I agree with this post, had they kept the Windows 7 start menu and given Metro as an alternative shell (think KDE/Gnome/Unity) then it would be SO much better. It feels like a reverse of Windows Mobile 6 and before where they tried to bring a desktop to a mobile device, this time its a mobile device to a desktop!

Throw them in at the deep end, teach 'em C++! In all seriousness I have no idea why they teach flash animation at all, I can understand HTML etc, but a lot of the time the teachers are learning the language as they go along with no extra curricular experience of the language. I would say keep things simple at GCSE or EWOK or whatever or you will lose 90% of the class!! Start to specialize into java (or any particular managed code) or C type languages at A level. (Personally I would love to have started learning coding at school, but I, like many others here, am a nerd.)
