  1. Hi Just implemented Jamf School with apple School Manager Thing is that the school have been donated lots of iTunes Gift cards by parents however unable to redeem them via Apple School Manager for some reason We have created an ASM Login account called apple@school. for Apple School Manager Anyone of redeeming them to credit the school account? anyone been in this situation?
  2. We just implemented Jamf School works beautifully costs the school around £5 per license per year deployed it across 20 iPads - 5 for Staff and 15 for Pupils and we were able to group them
  3. Hi all May have been asked before but cant find any threads related to it In process or refreshing a small schools entire network (PCs, Laptops etc.) Due to the school Size not worth them having an OVS agreement so instead we quoted them for licenses for Office 2016 and Windows, Office license i think are around £60 or so cant remember off top of my head. They also have Office365 subscription A1 Plan i think! One of of their staff members have turned around and said "Why we have to pay extra for Office licenses when we can download 365 for free and install it on the laptops/PCs", totally understand this as the school wants to save money however though i assume this is per user right? So if user1 decides to download and install Office on their profile and it asks them to sign in can user2 then login to the machine and use office?and im assuming once user1 leaves the school and their account remove then office will cease to run if installed under their profile? Can anyone let me know any negatives into doing this way over just purchasing Office licenses and just licensing it per device?
  4. Hi Guys Has anyone ever done a P2V conversion of a server (Which is also a domain controller and has Active Directory and DHCP) then made the main server as a host, installed Hyper V and attached the P2V disk to the main server This is our situation - Admin has a P2P Server Setup with 6 Workstations running SIMS - Curriculum has its own proper server with AD/DHCP/DNS etc Admin is managed by one company Curriculum is managed by another provider so they want both to be on a single server but independant of each other The School wants to do the following wants everything to be on one server and wants the following done - Current Curriculum Server will now be a hyper V host called "SCHOOL HOST" - Create a new VM for the Admin Server and move data from the old peer to peer to this new server - Do a P2V on the curriculum Server and create a separate VM for the curriculum Server Had the following in mind - P2V curriculum Server name the P2V Curriculum1 for example, install Hyper V, attach the converted VM - DC promo it - Demote the Original Server as a DC which now acts as a host, remove the DC / DHCP / AD etc roles so this is now the host - Create a new VM for admin install AD and Domain controller it Move all data across and setup users Can anyone see any issues with this or have any better ways of approaching it Only question I had is we have a single DHCP Scope can i say split the scope between the Server so for example Curriculum Server will have IP range say 10.1.50.1 - 10.1.50.100 Admin Server will have ip range from 10.1.50.101 - 10.1.50.200 so have a DHCP Scope on both server Would that work or anyone has better ideas?
  5. Hi guys Schools just purchased a bunch of laptops purely for home use only - its for special needs students / low income type Non of them are domain joined they are for setup standalone with standard office and internet giving the student local login as a power user Going to install meraki to manage the laptops The students will keep them for a year then bring it back to the school Does anyone have any suggestion or recommendation on clearing them down each time we get them back? Previously the tutors was just deleting user profiles down and documents We could create a WDS image and then just reimage them each time they bring it back, however we work for an LEA and the teachers wont know how to use WDS or know how to update the Image Anyone have any recommendations or solutions?
  6. Hi guys may seem a silly question! Got 2 small sites setup Site1 : x 10 PC's with onsite server with AD/DHCP/DNS etc Site2: x 7 PCs no server on this site or anything but joined to school domain on site 1 Site2 PCs are domain joined to the Server on Site one, login works fine shares correct and everything else OK, we have one router each site managed by SWGFL so both talking to each other Now not sure if its me but Site 1 PCs all the machines there Server is dishing out IP address from its DHCP Scope However on site2 seems the router is dishing out the IP addresses is this normal? and the only way i managed to join the domain with site2 pcs is to change the DNS on the PCs on site2 and joined the domain then and it worked fine Is this normal or is there something i need to do? Not to mention aswell login times for Site2 machines seems to be bit slow! Sorry may seem dumb question!
  7. Hi Quick question We have 2 very small school sites one in one city the other in another, both internet is provided by SWGFL routers at each end, so have asked them for a change request we want to connect both sites up Once done i assume no further work needs to be done on the server or anything from our side? we should just be able to join the PC on the second site to the domain where the server is located on site one correct? or do we need to do anything on the server side? Running Windows server 2019 single server running AD/DHCP/DNS/DC etc. SWGFL manage all our routers so they do all the changes
  8. Thanks! School managed to get meraki so got that activated and working..now just need to enrol them to the DEP Program in apple school manager We were looking for a solution to manage them without a mac as the school dont have a mac so was looking for something central Just one thing though we managed to get it working today got them all on Meraki console and showing up...but for Supervision mode i am assuming we need to be enrolled on the DEP program under school manager correct? at the moment when we try to push apps from meraki console password keeps popping up each time I guess once under supervised mode we can push it all silently?
  9. Hey all We just taken over the IT (LEA) of a very small infant school, their previous MSP left the ipad management in a mess no one knows any login details and the other company seemed to have deployed apps by bringing their own personal mac to the school and pushing it through there (Long story but its a total mess) so we going to start from basics so now we having to sort it out The school have around half a dozen or so laptops and ideally what we looking to do is something simple as just deploying apps to all the laptops and locking them down to a certain extent money is low for the school does the free mosyle allows for basic stuff like this? whats your experience been? dont need anything fancy at all just a case of if a teacher likes an app we want to be able to just download and push it out to all ipads thats all!
  10. Hey guys We look after a large number of small infant and primary schools across our county as part of traded services. we are slowly trying to get some of the schools to start considering moving over to Office365 alot of them are just using network shares as a dumping ground and getting them to do housekeeping is a big struggle and they are constantly running out of disk space on the box and no one really wants to take responsiblity of house keeping! Does anyone have a good strategy in place which they use in terms of getting users to get in the habit of making use of Onedrive..i.e. using onedrive to save files which they need access from home to and just saving files locally if they plan to use it in place? The problem we have is teachers and staff they are after ease of access and are so used to just clicking save as browse to their network folder and save it there or even save it on their desktop (which we are trying to slowly move them away from) Introducing onedrive they may find it a bit tiredsome having to get on to the web portal/upload / download files etc (Sure it will require training to get this done) in the interim they may just revert making life easy for themselves and just dumping everything on the desktop/shares so just wondering if anyone has any good IT strategy tips in terms of saving work- we will still want to keep network drives but we could enforce possibly like a storage limit on network drive to then force the users to start making use of one drive Bearing in mind here the staff are mainly infant/primary school teachers across small schoolls
  11. Hello! Wonder if someone can advise me We are a very small private education establishment just newly formed We got someone to setup a small network for us which works well currently running a server with a domain controller and file share and our pupils use win 10 laptop and login to the domain do their work save their work and everything else and this all works fine however the governors have told me that they want to use office365 but dont want to spend much money as its tight for now so i have been asked to help with this, i know basics about IT but not enough about this we have setup a office365 account and been approved for education so i got the details and full login to everything what the establishment want is to link the active directory logins which the pupil use at the school to link with office365 so when the pupils work from home if they go to the office365 portal they can use the same or simuilar account and password to login to their office365 portal from home so the password syncs at home when working and also at the establishment i been reading that azure active directory should work that i should install this on the server and it does all the work is this correct? furthermore they also asked when they are logged on to the laptops and pcs at the establishment to access their onedrive online offie etc that they can use single sing on too without having to login is this possible can someone send me pointers? Sorry we are quit3 new to all this and the establishment cant really afford to hire IT companies to do this work as they are new so i am just helping them out thanks
